Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ikeja Electric Band A tariff history since April 2024

Every Ikeja Electric Band A price change since April 2024 from NERC's own orders, what drove each one, and how Lagos regulation changed in 2025.

The short answer

According to NERC's July 2025 Supplementary Order for Ikeja Electric (ORDER/NERC/2025/064), the Band A tariff was ₦225.00/kWh in April 2024, ₦206.80 in May and June 2024, and ₦209.50 from July 2024 through July 2025. Bands B to E stayed frozen at December 2022 rates throughout. From mid-2025 the Lagos market moved to LASERC, so check LASERC and NERC for any later change.

Band A is the tariff class for customers on feeders promised at least 20 hours of supply a day. NERC's own table for Ikeja Electric starts in April 2024, when Band A stood at ₦225.00/kWh, and the figure has moved since on NERC's monthly review of pass-through costs. This page sets out the sequence for Ikeja Electric (IE) using the regulator's own tables, so the dates and numbers can be checked.

The sequence, from NERC's table

PeriodBand A Non-MD (₦/kWh)Band A MD1, MD2, MD2 Special (₦/kWh)Source
April 2024225.00225.00NERC July 2025 IE order, Table 2
May – June 2024206.80206.80Same table
July 2024 – July 2025209.50209.50Same table; order effective 1 July 2025

In the same period, NERC's table shows IE's Band B to E residential rates unchanged: Band B ₦62.48, Band C ₦45.80, Band D ₦31.24 and Band E ₦31.24 per kWh, with the lifeline class at ₦4.00. The order says Bands B to E remain frozen at the rates payable since December 2022, in line with Federal Government subsidy policy.

What moves the Band A figure

NERC's supplementary orders are monthly reviews under the Multi-Year Tariff Order 2024 (MYTO 2024). The July 2025 IE order says it reflects changes in pass-through indices outside the DisCo's control. Its assumptions for July 2025 were:

Exchange rate
₦1,566.49/US$1 (CBN average for 1–27 June 2025 plus 1% transaction cost)
Nigerian inflation
22.97% for May 2025 (NBS)
US inflation
2.40% for May 2025
Gas-to-power price
US$2.13/MMBTU (NMDPRA benchmark, April 2025)
Energy delivered to IE
603 MWh/h on average

On those assumptions NERC put IE's weighted average cost-reflective tariff at ₦185.9/kWh for July 2025, against a weighted average allowed tariff of ₦114.7/kWh, and estimated the monthly shortfall (subsidy) at about ₦26.35bn. Band A's ₦209.50 sits above that average cost-reflective figure, while the frozen Bands B to E sit well below it.

Why there were three figures in four months

  • April 2024: Band A at ₦225.00, the first column of NERC's table.
  • May 2024: the figure fell to ₦206.80 in NERC's table, in line with the monthly review.
  • July 2024: it rose to ₦209.50 and stayed there through July 2025, according to the same table.

NERC's table gives the figures and periods but not the reasons for each individual month. The monthly orders for those months, published on NERC's website, give the assumptions for each change.

What the changes meant for a household (example)

Example only: a Band A home using 150 kWh a month would have paid the following for energy at each rate in NERC's table, before any vendor fee:

PeriodRate (₦/kWh)150 kWh costs
April 2024225.00₦33,750
May – June 2024206.80₦31,020
July 2024 – July 2025209.50₦31,425

So the May 2024 cut saved that household ₦2,730 a month against April, and the July 2024 change added back ₦405. The same 150 kWh on Band B at ₦62.48 would cost ₦9,372, which is why being on the right band matters more than month-to-month movements in Band A.

Lagos regulation from 2025

In December 2024 NERC announced the transfer of regulatory oversight of the Lagos electricity market to the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), with IE required to set up a Lagos subsidiary licensed by LASERC and the transfer expected to complete by 4 June 2025. The Guardian reported in December 2025 that LASERC issued LASERC ORDER/001/2025 in June 2025, that Lagos took full control of its market by July 2025, and, unconfirmed, that LASERC's board had recently been dissolved. We could not open a LASERC tariff order, so any Lagos Band A change after July 2025 is not in this table.

What to check first

  1. Read the tariff on your latest token receipt or bill: that is the rate actually applied to you.
  2. Look for the newest IE order on NERC's website and any LASERC order for Lagos.
  3. If you are billed Band A, confirm your feeder is on the Band A list; see how to check your feeder.

For the national picture, see electricity tariff history in Nigeria and how tariffs are set under MYTO. For today's figures by band, see Ikeja Electric tariff today.

Where Pryme fits

If you track what you spend on power, buying tokens through Bills in the Pryme app keeps each purchase and its units in one history.

Questions people ask

What is the current Ikeja Electric Band A tariff?

What was Band A tariff in April 2024?

NERC's July 2025 IE order shows Ikeja Electric's Band A at ₦225.00/kWh in April 2024.

Did Band A tariff reduce in 2024?

Yes. NERC's table shows IE's Band A at ₦225.00 in April 2024, ₦206.80 in May and June 2024, then ₦209.50 from July 2024.

Have Band B to E tariffs changed since 2024?

Not in NERC's July 2025 IE order, which keeps Bands B to E frozen at the rates payable since December 2022.
