Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Futurpreneur loans for newcomer founders: eligibility

Futurpreneur's published terms: ages 18 to 39, citizens and permanent residents, up to $75,000 plus BDC financing and two years of mentorship.

The short answer

Futurpreneur lends to founders aged 18 to 39 who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, with applications submitted before your 40th birthday. Its published terms offer an equity-free start-up loan of up to $75,000, possible additional BDC financing of up to $50,000 subject to conditions, and up to two years of one-to-one mentorship. A study or work permit holder does not meet the status condition as published.

For a newcomer with a business plan and no Canadian credit history, Futurpreneur is often the first name that comes up. It is a national non-profit that pairs a start-up loan with a mentor, and it is built for younger founders. The two conditions that decide most newcomer applications are age and immigration status, so start there before you write a single page of the plan.

Who is eligible

Futurpreneur's published eligibility (read on its University of Manitoba partner page, October 2026) sets out:

Age
Between 18 and 39; the application must be submitted before your 40th birthday
Status
Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
Preparation
A business plan and a 24-month cash flow ready to submit

The page does not add a minimum time in Canada, so a recent permanent resident is not excluded by the published wording. It also does not say a business must be at a particular stage beyond having a plan ready; check with Futurpreneur whether an already-trading business qualifies.

Status in practice

  • Permanent resident, aged 32: meets the age and status conditions as published.
  • International student, aged 24: does not meet the status condition, whatever the business. Students should also check their own work limits; see running a business on a study permit.
  • Work permit holder awaiting PR, aged 30: does not meet the status condition until PR is granted.
  • Citizen, aged 39 and 11 months: eligible only if the application is in before the 40th birthday.

What is on offer

ElementPublished amount or term
Futurpreneur start-up loanUp to $75,000, equity-free
BDC financingUp to $50,000 additional, subject to conditions
MentorshipUp to two years of one-to-one, hand-matched mentorship

The page we read does not give an interest rate, repayment period or fees. Ask for the loan agreement and read the rate, how it is expressed, the term and any guarantee before you accept. Worked example, illustrative only: if a founder borrowed $40,000 and repaid $800 a month for 60 months, they would repay $48,000 in total, meaning $8,000 in interest and charges. The real figures come from the agreement, not this example.

How to prepare a strong application

  1. Confirm your status document and date of birth match the names on your ID.
  2. Write the plan for the Canadian market you will serve, with evidence from conversations with customers.
  3. Build the 24-month cash flow month by month, including loan repayments.
  4. Show the money you are putting in yourself and where it came from; if savings are in Nigeria, keep statements that show the source.
  5. Think about what you want from a mentor and say so.

Getting value from the mentorship

The mentor is half of the package, and newcomers often underuse it. Someone who has run a business in your province can explain things no plan template covers: how local suppliers set payment terms, which permits a city inspector asks about, how customers here expect to be invoiced. Agree a meeting rhythm in the first month, bring numbers to each session rather than general updates, and ask for introductions. If your business sells to or sources from Nigeria, say so early; a mentor who knows import paperwork or cross-border payments may be a better match than one who knows only the local market.

If you do not qualify

Founders over 39, or not yet permanent residents, need other routes. Black founders who are citizens or PRs can look at the Black Entrepreneurship Loan Fund, which the federal government's page says lends up to $250,000 to majority Black-owned businesses aged 18 and over. Other options are compared in the Canada Small Business Financing Program for newcomers.

Before you borrow

A start-up loan is still debt. Lenders offer terms, and you accept them; nothing is owed until you sign. Read the repayment schedule against your cash flow's weakest months, and make sure the business can pay even if the first year is slower than planned.

Where Pryme fits

If part of your start-up capital is savings in Nigeria, a Pryme Personal Account opened from any country holds that naira alongside USD, GBP and EUR, and Swap shows the rate and fee before you approve a conversion. Outside Nigeria these services are provided through regulated partners. See multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

Can permanent residents apply for Futurpreneur?

Yes. Futurpreneur's published eligibility covers Canadian citizens and permanent residents aged 18 to 39.

Can international students get a Futurpreneur loan?

Not as published: the status condition is citizenship or permanent residence.

How much can Futurpreneur lend?

Up to $75,000 equity-free, with up to $50,000 more from BDC subject to conditions, per its published terms.

What is the age limit for Futurpreneur?

18 to 39; the application must be submitted before your 40th birthday.
