Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Funding a Nigerian stockbroking account from the UK

You have a CSCS account with a Nigerian broker and live in the UK. How to get naira to the broker, the documents involved and what it costs to trade.

The short answer

Nigerian stockbrokers take naira, paid by bank transfer from a Nigerian account in your name into the broker's designated client account. From the UK, that means first getting pounds into naira, either by converting and sending to your own Nigerian account or through an account that holds naira already, then transferring to the broker. Use only the account details on the broker's official documents, and keep the trail: your CSCS account, BVN and bank details must match.

How the pieces fit together

Nigerian shares are held in your name at the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS), under a clearing house number (CHN). CSCS says individuals open their account through an accredited stockbroker, may hold more than one CSCS account but keep one unique CHN, and that onboarding now integrates BVN and NIN verification. The broker buys and sells for you; the cash side runs through a client account at a Nigerian bank. When you sell, proceeds go back to the bank account you have registered.

This means three details must agree: your name and BVN on the CSCS account, the bank account registered with the broker, and the account you pay from. A mismatch is the most common reason a deposit sits unallocated.

Routes for getting naira in

RouteHow it worksWatch for
Your Nigerian bank accountConvert pounds to naira into your own account, then transfer to the brokerTwo steps; the conversion rate and fee on the first
A multicurrency account with nairaHold or convert to naira, then pay the broker by local transferCheck the payer name matches your broker record
A remittance provider straight to the brokerSome providers pay naira to any Nigerian accountBrokers may reject money from a payer they cannot match to you
Foreign currency through an authorised dealerBring in dollars or pounds formally and obtain a Certificate of Capital ImportationPaperwork; it matters if you later want to repatriate in foreign currency

The fourth route is mostly used by larger investors. Pavestones (via Mondaq, June 2026) notes that under the CBN's 2026 FX Manual electronic CCIs are registered within 24 to 48 hours of the inflow. If you fund with naira already in Nigeria, there is no CCI, and selling later gives you naira that you convert through ordinary channels.

Documents your broker will want

  • A valid ID. CSCS lists the NIN slip or card, international passport, driver's licence and voter's card for its own requests.
  • Your BVN and the Nigerian bank account number for proceeds and dividends.
  • Contact details, including a UK address and phone number.
  • For changes made from abroad, CSCS says investors outside Lagos and Abuja can submit notarised ID through their broker, and KYC updates go to CSCS by letter through the broker.

If you have no BVN-linked account, start there; the Nigeria library explains the BVN for Nigerians abroad.

What a trade costs

Bamboo's fee page for Nigerian stocks (3 September 2026) breaks down the market charges a buy and a sell carry on top of its own 1% commission:

ChargeBuySell
SEC fee0.3%Not listed
NGX feeNot listed0.3%
CSCS feeNot listed0.3%
Stamp duty0.08%0.08%
Brokerage commission0.75% to 1.35%0.75% to 1.35%
Trade alert₦4₦4
VAT7.5% of brokerage and SEC fees7.5% of NGX, CSCS and brokerage fees

Traditional brokers charge the market fees and their own brokerage; apps add their commission. Trades settle two business days after execution (T+2) since 28 November 2025, according to CSCS.

Steps from the UK

  1. Confirm your broker is registered with the SEC (the SEC's registered operator search).
  2. Get the broker's client account details from its official statement or portal, not from a message.
  3. Move naira into an account in your own name.
  4. Transfer to the broker using the reference it gives you, usually your client ID.
  5. Email or upload the payment confirmation and ask the broker to confirm the funds are credited.
  6. Place your order only once the cash shows in your broker account.

Selling and getting money back out

Plan the exit before you fund. When you sell, the broker pays the proceeds, after the sell-side charges, into the Nigerian bank account registered on your record, usually two business days after the trade. From there you decide whether to reinvest, keep naira for costs at home, or convert and send to the UK. Dividends follow a separate path: registrars pay them by e-dividend into the account on your mandate, not through the broker, so register a mandate for each company you hold.

Two habits save trouble later. Keep every contract note, because a UK resident selling shares may have a capital gain to work out in pounds, and the contract notes show the dates and prices. And keep your broker and registrar records updated with your UK address and a working phone number, so statements and corporate-action notices reach you.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account holds pounds and naira together. Swap converts when you choose, with the rate and fee shown before you approve, and Send pays the broker's client account by local transfer from naira in your own name. For dividends paid back to you, see dividends from Nigerian shares.

Questions people ask

Can I fund my Nigerian stockbroker from a UK bank?

Not usually directly in pounds. Convert to naira into an account in your name, then transfer to the broker's client account.

Do I need a BVN to invest in Nigerian stocks from abroad?

Yes, in practice. CSCS onboarding integrates BVN and NIN verification, and brokers need a Nigerian bank account for proceeds.

How long does a share trade take to settle in Nigeria?

Two business days after the trade (T+2), effective 28 November 2025, according to CSCS.

Can I send money to my broker through LemFi or another app?

Some apps pay any Nigerian account, but brokers may not match a third-party payer to you. Ask your broker first.
