You are not borrowing. You are selling to somebody who already has the money — and that money can only be spent with a business like yours.

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.
Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.
Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.
Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.
Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.
Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.
Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.
Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.
Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

The Non-Resident BVN lets Nigerians abroad get a Bank Verification Number online. Who can apply, documents, the $50 fee, timing and what it is for.
Part of the guideSending money to Nigeria: the real cost, explained
The Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) lets Nigerians living abroad, and people of Nigerian descent, get a BVN online without travelling to Nigeria. It was launched by the Central Bank of Nigeria and NIBSS in May 2025; you apply on the NIBSS portal with a passport, proof of foreign residence and a liveness check, pay a $50 processing fee, and approved numbers are issued within about 72 hours. With it you can open Nigerian accounts, including domiciliary accounts, remotely.
Every Nigerian bank account is tied to a Bank Verification Number (BVN), the biometric identity that links a person to all their accounts. Until 2025, getting one meant enrolling in person, which for many Nigerians abroad meant waiting for a trip home or paying a third party. The NRBVN changed that. This article explains how it works. For how a Nigerian account fits into sending money home, see our guide to the real cost of sending money to Nigeria.
The NRBVN is a BVN issued remotely to people who live outside Nigeria. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), which runs the BVN database, launched the platform in May 2025. The CBN describes it as voluntary, and its stated aims are wider access to Nigerian financial services for the diaspora, stronger know-your-customer checks and less identity fraud.
| Domestic BVN | NRBVN | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | People in Nigeria | Nigerians abroad and people of Nigerian descent |
| Where you enrol | At a bank branch or approved agent | Online, from anywhere |
| Biometrics | Captured in person | Liveness check matched to your documents |
| Cost | Free | $50 processing fee (as of 2025) |
| Time to issue | Varies by bank | Within about 72 hours of approval |
The portal offers three applicant types: Nigerian without a BVN, Nigerian with a BVN, and Nigerian by descent. Reports of the launch list these documents:
You will also enter your name, address and date of birth, verify your phone number with a one-time code and your email address with a link, and complete a liveness test that matches your face to your documents. Requirements can be updated, so check the portal before you start.
The NRBVN carries a $50 fee, paid in dollars by card. When reports of the charge drew criticism in July 2025, the CBN said the $50 is not a price for the BVN itself, which stays free for people enrolling in Nigeria, but a processing cost for remote biometric checks, due diligence, identity authentication, data handling and the technology for overseas enrolment. It added that diaspora Nigerians had previously paid at least $200 to enrol from abroad.
At the official rate of about ₦1,332 per dollar on 8 October 2026, the $50 fee is about ₦66,600. When the platform launched in May 2025, Nairametrics estimated it at about ₦80,000, because the naira was weaker then. Either way, it is a small fraction of a return flight to Lagos or Abuja, and a quarter of the $200 or more that the CBN says diaspora Nigerians previously paid to enrol from abroad.
An NRBVN does not make a transfer cheaper by itself, and banks may still ask for their own documents. It removes the biggest practical barrier: having to be in Nigeria to prove who you are. If you already have a BVN from before you moved, the portal has a separate "Nigerian with BVN" option; check whether you need to apply at all before paying the fee.
Pryme's naira accounts are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. Verification is tiered; an account can be opened from any country, and the documents each tier asks for are shown in the app before you apply. Pryme Financial Ltd is a financial technology company, not a bank, and outside Nigeria its activities are carried out through regulated partners.
A Pryme multicurrency account holds naira alongside pounds, dollars and euros, so you can receive in one currency and convert with Swap when it suits you. For the full picture of sending money home, see our guide to sending money to Nigeria.
The application carries a $50 processing fee, paid by card on the official portal and non-refundable. The CBN says it covers remote biometric and due diligence checks; enrolling for a BVN inside Nigeria remains free.
After you submit your documents and pay, the application is screened. If approved, the BVN is issued within about 72 hours, according to reports of the launch.
Yes. The NRBVN portal has a "Nigerian by descent" option alongside options for Nigerians with and without an existing BVN. You will need documents showing your identity and foreign residence.
Usually your existing BVN still identifies you, and the portal has a separate option for Nigerians who already hold one. Check with your bank or NIBSS whether you need to apply before paying the fee.
That is one of its main uses. With an NRBVN you can apply to open naira and domiciliary accounts remotely, subject to each bank's own checks and documents.
