Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

FMBN mortgage vs bank mortgage: which is cheaper?

How an NHF mortgage through FMBN compares with a bank home loan on rate, caps, eligibility and speed, with a worked example in naira.

The short answer

An NHF mortgage through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria is far cheaper: FMBN publishes 6% a year for up to 30 years and up to ₦50 million, while a bank home loan such as Sterling Bank's is priced at 32% a year for up to 10 years (both as at Oct 2026). The catch is eligibility and access: you must be an NHF contributor, the property must qualify, and the loan comes through an accredited primary mortgage bank.

If you compare only the headline rate, there is no contest. The real question is whether you can get the cheaper loan for the home you want, in the time you have, and for the amount you need.

The two products side by side

NHF mortgage (FMBN)Bank home loan (Sterling HAFF, reference)
Interest rate6% a year to the borrower; FMBN lends to the PMB at 4%32% a year, subject to market conditions
Maximum loanUp to ₦50 millionUp to ₦150 million
Maximum tenorUp to 30 years10 years salaried, 5 years business owners
Who can applyNHF contributors with 6 months' continuous contributionsSalaried staff of approved employers or established businesses
Where you applyAn FMBN-accredited primary mortgage bankThe bank directly
EquitySet per loan; ask the PMB30% salaried, 40% business owners

Sources: FMBN's NHF Mortgage Loan page and Sterling Bank's loans page, both read in Oct 2026. Sterling is used only as a published reference; other banks price differently, and the CBN's own figures for August 2026 put the average maximum lending rate across banks at 29.20%.

Worked example: ₦20 million over each route

RouteRateTenorMonthly repaymentTotal interest
NHF mortgage6%20 years₦143,286₦14,388,691
NHF mortgage6%10 years₦222,041₦6,644,920
Bank home loan32%10 years₦557,010₦46,841,248
Bank home loan32%5 years₦671,851₦20,311,062

At the same 10-year tenor, the bank loan costs about two and a half times as much each month (₦557,010 against ₦222,041), and the interest bill is ₦40,196,328 higher. To afford ₦557,010 a month within a one-third-of-income rule you would need take-home pay of about ₦1,671,030; for the 20-year NHF loan, about ₦429,858.

Why people still take bank mortgages

  • The amount. The NHF cap is ₦50 million. For a home above that, the gap must come from equity or another lender.
  • Eligibility. Since the Business Facilitation Act 2022 changed the NHF Act, private-sector employees contribute only if they opt in. Someone who opted out has no contribution history to qualify with.
  • Time. An NHF loan passes through the PMB and then FMBN for approval. FMBN's product page publishes no processing timeline, so a seller who wants to close quickly may not wait. Ask the PMB for its recent turnaround in writing.
  • The property. Both routes need clean title and a valuation, but the NHF loan is for your own home: building, buying, improving or renovating it. It is not for investment property.
  • One use. FMBN material from 2018 describes the NHF mortgage as available once per contributor; confirm the current rule with your PMB.

Costs that sit outside the rate

The interest rate is the largest cost, but not the only one. Both routes involve a valuation, legal searches, perfection of the mortgage with the state lands registry, and insurance on the property and on your life. Sterling's terms add a 1% commitment fee, credit life and job loss cover at 1% a year of the loan, fire cover at 0.2% a year, and advise setting aside about 10% of the property cost for perfection fees (Oct 2026). PMBs processing NHF loans charge their own fees, which they should set out before you commit; ask for a written list.

Two further points can narrow or widen the gap. A 6% rate fixed over 20 or 30 years protects you if market rates rise, while a bank rate described as "subject to prevailing market conditions" can be repriced. On the other hand, a bank that allows part or full prepayment without penalty, as Sterling states, lets you clear the loan early if your income rises, which cuts the interest bill. Ask any NHF lender the same question about early repayment before you sign.

Other FMBN routes worth knowing

FMBN launched a Diaspora Mortgage in August 2026 at 9% a year, up to ₦100 million and up to 10 years, per its own announcement. Its Rent-to-Own and Home Renovation Loan products have their own limits; see FMBN rent-to-own and the FMBN diaspora mortgage.

What to check first

  1. Ask your employer or FMBN for your NHF contribution statement and confirm 6 months of continuous contributions.
  2. Pick an FMBN-accredited PMB and ask for its current NHF pipeline time and the equity it will require for your loan size.
  3. Get a bank offer in parallel if the property price is above ₦50 million or the seller's deadline is tight.
  4. Compare total interest, not only the monthly figure, using the repayment worked example.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not lend for homes. While you wait for qualifying contributions or build the equity, a Fixed Savings Box keeps that money apart from everyday spending, and a verifiable statement can support the income evidence lenders ask for.

Questions people ask

Is an FMBN mortgage cheaper than a bank mortgage?

Yes on rate. FMBN publishes 6% a year for NHF mortgages; Sterling Bank's home loan is 32% a year (both as at Oct 2026). On ₦20 million over 10 years that is about ₦222,041 a month against ₦557,010.

What is the maximum NHF loan from FMBN?

FMBN's NHF Mortgage Loan page says a contributor can access up to ₦50 million (as at Oct 2026).

Can I combine an NHF loan with a bank loan?

FMBN does not publish a combined product. Some buyers fund the amount above the NHF cap from equity; ask your PMB whether it allows a top-up and how the two charges on the property would rank.

How long does an NHF mortgage take in Nigeria?

FMBN does not publish a timeline. Ask the PMB for its current processing time in writing, and allow for valuation, title checks and FMBN approval.
