Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

FMBN Rent-to-Own: how it works and who qualifies

How FMBN’s Rent-to-Own scheme works: move in, pay monthly for up to 30 years, own at the end. Eligibility, price cap, documents and steps.

The short answer

Under FMBN’s Rent-to-Own scheme you move into an FMBN house and pay rent that goes towards buying it over up to 30 years; FMBN holds the property in trust and passes title to you only after full payment. Applicants must be over 18, first-time NHF loan beneficiaries with at least six months of NHF contributions and regular income, the property price is capped at ₦15 million, and payments cannot exceed a third of income.

How the scheme works

Rent-to-Own removes the biggest barrier to home ownership in Nigeria: the large upfront deposit. Instead of saving for years before you can move, you move in first and pay regular amounts that count towards the price. The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) keeps ownership in trust while you pay, and title passes to you once the full amount is paid.

  1. You choose an available FMBN house at a branch.
  2. You apply and FMBN checks your NHF record, income and documents.
  3. You move in as a tenant-buyer.
  4. Your employer deducts the payment from your salary and remits it to FMBN.
  5. At the end of the term, title passes to you.

The published terms

FMBN’s Rent-to-Own sheet (undated on its website, checked October 2026) states:

TermWhat the sheet says
Maximum property price₦15,000,000
Repayment periodNot more than 30 years
Rate7% of the property price, on an annuity basis
Payment capMonthly or annual payments no more than one-third of income for the same period
Ownership during the termHeld in trust by FMBN; title passes after full payment
InsuranceFire, special perils and credit life

One discrepancy to note: a ThisDay report of May 2020 gave the rate as 9%. Ask FMBN which rate applies when you apply.

Who qualifies

  • Any Nigerian above 18.
  • At least six months of consistent NHF contributions.
  • Verifiable, regular income.
  • A first-time NHF loan beneficiary, who has not used an NHF loan to buy or build a house.

Because the payment comes from salary, the scheme is designed for people in employment whose employer will sign an undertaking to deduct and remit. Self-employed contributors should ask FMBN how they can apply; see also NHF for the self-employed.

Worked example

Example only. A house at the ₦15,000,000 cap, treating 7% as an annual rate on a reducing balance:

Rate and termMonthly paymentTotal paidIncome needed (one-third cap)
7% over 30 yearsabout ₦99,795about ₦35,926,335about ₦299,385 a month
7% over 20 yearsabout ₦116,295about ₦27,910,762about ₦348,885 a month
9% over 30 yearsabout ₦120,693about ₦43,449,621about ₦362,079 a month

A shorter term costs a little more each month but about ₦8 million less in total. Ask FMBN to show you its own schedule for your house; the sheet’s wording on the rate is brief and the actual calculation should be in your offer.

Rent-to-Own compared with renting and an NHF mortgage

RentingFMBN Rent-to-OwnNHF mortgage
Upfront costUsually one or two years’ rent plus agency and legal feesSheet does not specify a depositEquity depending on loan size
Who owns the house during paymentsLandlordFMBN, in trustYou, with the lender holding a mortgage
Payments build ownershipNoYesYes
Choice of houseWideFMBN houses onlyAny house with acceptable title
How you payTo the landlordSalary deduction to FMBNUsually salary deduction or direct debit

The main trade-off is choice. Rent-to-Own is limited to houses FMBN has available, which may not be where you work. Where it fits, it lets you start owning without first saving a large deposit. Weigh it against renting with the help of mortgage vs renting.

How to apply

  1. Visit any FMBN branch to see available houses and prices.
  2. Complete the application form.
  3. Attach the documents below and return them to the branch.

Documents

  • One passport photograph on a white background, with your name, signature and NHF contribution number on the back
  • Proof of identity: driver’s licence, national ID card, international passport, staff ID or tax payer card
  • Payslips for the last three months
  • Certified personal bank statements for the last six months
  • Employer’s confirmation letter
  • Employer’s undertaking to deduct rent from salary and remit to FMBN’s TSA account
  • Evidence of any additional income you will use
  • BVN

What to check first

  • Which estates have houses available in your state, and their condition.
  • What happens if you change job, since payments depend on your employer’s deduction.
  • What happens if you miss payments; the sheet does not say, so ask for the terms in writing.
  • Who pays for maintenance and estate service charges while FMBN holds title.

Compare with the Lagos State scheme in Lagos HOMS and rent-to-own.

Where Pryme fits

Rent-to-Own does not remove other moving costs. A Naira Savings Box can build a fund for them, and the Personal Assistant can track each month’s payment and remind you of service charges, with nothing moving until you approve.

Questions people ask

How does FMBN rent to own work?

You move into an FMBN house and pay regular amounts from your salary towards its price for up to 30 years. FMBN holds the house in trust and transfers title when you finish paying.

What is the maximum price under FMBN rent to own?

FMBN’s sheet caps the property price at ₦15,000,000.

Do I need NHF to qualify for FMBN rent to own?

Yes. You need at least six months of consistent NHF contributions and must be a first-time NHF loan beneficiary.

How do I apply for FMBN rent to own?

Visit an FMBN branch to see houses and prices, complete the form, and return it with your documents, including payslips, six months of statements and your employer’s undertaking.
