Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to get your first paying client in Nigeria (any service)

Local-first ways to land a first client for any service: referrals, WhatsApp status, estates and offices, a simple offer, and collecting payment safely.

The short answer

Your first paying client in Nigeria is most likely to come from people who already know you: start with a clear, priced offer, tell 30 people directly, post it on your WhatsApp status with real examples, and walk it into estates, offices and shops near you. Ask for part payment before you start, confirm the money has landed in your account rather than trusting a screenshot, and invoice in writing.

Whether you cut hair, design logos, tutor, clean, cook, repair phones or write, the first client is the hardest. You have no reviews and no portfolio, and online platforms are crowded. Locally, though, trust travels through people. The fastest route to a first payment is usually not a website but a clear offer shown to the people around you.

Step 1: make one simple offer

"I do graphics" is vague. "Five social media flyers for your shop, delivered in three days, ₦25,000" is something a person can say yes to. A good first offer has:

  • One specific outcome the client cares about.
  • A fixed price, so nobody has to negotiate.
  • A clear timeline.
  • A small, low-risk size, so the first yes is easy.

Step 2: tell the people who already trust you

Make a list of 30 people: family, old classmates, church or mosque members, neighbours, former colleagues. Send each a personal message, not a broadcast, explaining the offer and asking two things: whether they need it, and whether they know someone who does. Referrals from this list are often where the first client comes from.

Step 3: use WhatsApp status properly

  • Post work, not announcements: before-and-after photos, a short video of you at work, a finished sample.
  • Post consistently for two to three weeks; people notice on the fifth sight, not the first.
  • Always end with the offer and how to book.
  • Share a client's thank-you message (with their permission) as soon as you have one.

Step 4: go where clients gather

PlaceServices that fitHow to approach
Residential estatesCleaning, laundry, tutoring, repairs, cookingAsk the estate manager or residents' WhatsApp group admin if you can share an offer
Offices and plazasDesign, writing, IT support, lunch supplyWalk in with printed samples; ask for the person who handles that work
Shops and marketsFlyers, social media, bookkeeping, photographyOffer to do one small piece for the owner to see
SchoolsTutoring, events, uniforms, websitesSpeak to the proprietor or administrator

Do one small paid job very well, ask for a referral, and repeat. Our guide to building a portfolio with no clients helps if you have nothing to show yet.

Pricing the first job

New providers often price far too low to win the first job, then struggle to raise prices with the same client. A better approach is to price the offer at a fair rate and make the first job smaller, not cheaper. If you must discount, say so plainly ("first-client price, normally ₦35,000") so the client knows what the next job will cost.

Work out your floor before you quote: the cost of materials, transport and data for the job, plus what your time is worth per hour. If a client's budget is below that floor, the job is not worth taking, however much you want a first client. Our guide to quoting a client goes through this step by step.

After the first job

Ask the client for a short testimonial and a referral the day you deliver, while they are pleased. Then follow up a month later with a related offer. A first client who returns is worth more than three who do not.

Step 5: collect payment safely

  1. Agree in writing. A WhatsApp message stating the work, price, timeline and payment terms is enough for small jobs.
  2. Take part payment first. Many service providers ask for 50% before starting on a new client.
  3. Check your account, not a screenshot. Fake transfer alerts and edited screenshots are a known trick. Wait until the credit appears in your banking app.
  4. Send an invoice or receipt. It makes you look professional and gives both sides a record.
  5. Know who pays transfer charges. From January 2026 the ₦50 stamp duty on electronic transfers of ₦10,000 or more is charged to the sender, per Kuda's help centre, so a client paying you does not reduce what you receive by that amount.

If the client is a company

Companies may ask for your Tax ID before they pay. The Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 makes a company or statutory body that awards a contract to an unregistered person liable to a ₦5,000,000 penalty (section 100(2)). Registration is free for individuals; see do freelancers need a Tax ID.

What to check first

  • Can you explain your offer in one sentence with a price?
  • Have you told 30 people personally?
  • Do you have at least one photo, sample or testimonial?
  • Do you know how you will take payment and confirm it?

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme Business Account you can send invoices and take payment through bank-transfer checkout (free), and your Sales agent can prepare follow-ups to people who showed interest, for your approval. See also how to get paid in Nigeria.

Questions people ask

How do I get my first client in Nigeria?

Make one simple priced offer, tell 30 people who know you personally, post real work on your WhatsApp status, and approach estates, offices and shops nearby.

How do I get clients on WhatsApp?

Post examples of your work regularly on your status, end each post with your offer and how to book, and share client feedback once you have it.

Should I collect payment before doing a job?

For new clients, taking part payment first is common and sensible. Confirm the money is in your account before you start.

How do I avoid fake transfer alerts?

Never rely on a screenshot or SMS forwarded by the client. Wait until the credit shows in your own banking app.
