Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

First-salary budget for a fresh graduate in Nigeria

A worked first-salary budget: deductions under the 2026 tax rules, staying at home versus renting, transport costs, and how to start saving from month one.

The short answer

On a first salary, work from net pay after pension and PAYE, decide early whether you can afford to move out, and start saving from the first month even if it is a small amount. In our labelled example a ₦250,000 gross salary leaves about ₦205,500 at home or ₦208,500 when renting, and a ₦1.2 million yearly rent takes almost half of it.

From gross to what you actually receive

Your offer letter shows gross pay; your account receives net pay. Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, PenCom's 2023 FAQ sets the minimum at 18%, with the employee paying 8% and the employer 10%, unless the employer bears it all. PAYE then applies to what is left. Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, effective 1 January 2026, PaySpace's summary gives the bands as 0% on the first ₦800,000 of annual taxable income, 15% on the next ₦2,200,000, 18% on the next ₦9,000,000, and higher rates above that, with rent relief of 20% of annual rent capped at ₦500,000. Mondaq's summary of the reform lists pension contributions among the allowable deductions.

Worked example (labelled example)

Ada starts on ₦250,000 a month gross. To keep the arithmetic simple, assume her basic, housing and transport allowances make up the whole amount, so pension is 8% of ₦250,000 = ₦20,000 a month.

Line (yearly)Living at homeRenting at ₦1.2m a year
Gross pay₦3,000,000₦3,000,000
Less pension (8%)₦240,000₦240,000
Less rent relief (20% of rent)₦0₦240,000
Taxable income₦2,760,000₦2,520,000
Tax: 15% of amount above ₦800,000₦294,000₦258,000
Monthly PAYE₦24,500₦21,500
Monthly net pay₦205,500₦208,500

Your employer's payroll may treat allowances, NHF and other reliefs differently, so check your first payslip against this. Rent relief has to be claimed; ask HR how. For a line-by-line guide, see your payslip explained.

Staying at home versus moving out

For many graduates the biggest decision of the first year is whether to rent. In Lagos, the Tenancy Law 2011 makes it unlawful for a landlord to demand more than one year's rent in advance from a new tenant, according to Ownkey's July 2026 summary of section 4, but even one year is a lump sum most first-jobbers do not have. A ₦1.2 million room is ₦100,000 a month, nearly half of Ada's net pay, before agreement and agency fees.

Budget A: staying at home (labelled example)

LineMonthly
Contribution to the household₦30,000
Transport (two bus trips a day, 22 days)₦52,600
Lunch and food₦30,000
Phone and data₦8,000

Family support and giving₦10,000
Emergency fund₦30,000
Move-out (rent) fund₦20,000
Fun₦9,900
Total₦205,500

The transport line uses the NBS Transport Fare Watch for February 2026, which put the average within-city bus fare at ₦1,195.75 per trip, as reported by The Guardian: 44 trips come to about ₦52,600. Your own route may cost more or less; track it for two weeks.

Budget B: renting (labelled example)

LineMonthly
Rent (₦1.2m a year saved monthly)₦100,000
Transport (closer to work)₦30,000
Food₦45,000
Power and water₦10,000
Phone and data₦8,000
Toiletries and household₦6,000
Giving₦5,000
Savings₦4,500
Total₦208,500

Budget B works on paper but leaves almost nothing for emergencies or the next rent payment, and assumes the first year's rent was already found. Budget A, held for 12 months, builds ₦360,000 in the emergency fund and ₦240,000 towards a first rent, which makes a later move far safer. If you must move, sharing a flat or living closer to work is usually the lever that makes the numbers hold.

Start saving in month one

  • Set the saving to leave your account on payday, before spending.
  • Begin with an emergency fund of one month's costs, then three.
  • Your pension is already saving 18% of your pay between you and your employer; check your RSA is active with your PFA.
  • Avoid buying on credit in the first three months while you learn what a month really costs.

Common first-salary traps

  • Spending the first payslip on a phone, clothes or a celebration before any bill is set aside. A small treat is fine; a whole month is not.
  • Agreeing to regular family support you cannot sustain. Offer a fixed monthly amount you can keep paying rather than a large first gift.
  • Taking a salary loan or buy now pay later offer in the first months because the lender now sees a salary.
  • Forgetting that the first salary may be pro-rated or delayed while payroll is set up. Keep some NYSC or holiday savings until the second payslip arrives.
  • Not checking that pension deductions are actually reaching your RSA. Ask your PFA for a statement after three months.

What to check first

  1. Read your first payslip and confirm pension, PAYE and any other deductions.
  2. Ask HR about rent relief and how to claim it.
  3. Track every spend for the first month.
  4. Decide on moving out only after three months of real figures.

For more on saving targets, see how much of your salary to save; if you are still serving, see budgeting the NYSC allowance.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account can be opened from any country, and naira Savings Boxes can hold the emergency fund and move-out fund separately. The Personal Assistant can prepare your payday transfers for you to approve.

Questions people ask

How should I spend my first salary in Nigeria?

Start from net pay, cover essentials, put a fixed amount into an emergency fund on payday, and avoid big purchases until you know a month's real costs.

How much tax will I pay on my first salary?

It depends on your pay and reliefs. Under the 2026 bands the first ₦800,000 of annual taxable income is taxed at 0% and the next ₦2,200,000 at 15%. Check your payslip.

Should I move out after getting my first job?

Only if rent, transport and savings fit in your net pay and you already have the first year's rent. Staying home for a year can fund a safer move.

How much of my first salary should I save?

Aim for 10% to 20% of net pay if you live at home, and at least a small fixed amount if you rent.
