Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to find your state's MSME loan scheme in Nigeria

State MSME loans are spread across ministries, agencies and cooperative offices. A method for finding yours and confirming it is official.

The short answer

Start with three state offices: the ministry responsible for commerce or industry, the state's SME or enterprise agency, and the cooperative department. Confirm any scheme on the state's own official website or at the office in person, check which bank or microfinance bank will disburse it, and never pay an application fee to a personal account.

Nigeria's 36 states and the FCT each run their own small-business support, and the names change with each administration. There is no single national list that stays current. What does stay constant is where these schemes come from and how a real one can be told from a copy. This guide gives you a method that works in any state.

Where state schemes usually sit

OfficeWhat to ask for
Ministry of Commerce, Industry or TradeCurrent MSME loan or grant windows and how to apply
State SME, enterprise or employment agencyLoan schemes for traders, artisans, youths and women
Cooperative department (often under commerce or agriculture)Cooperative loans and whether your society is eligible
Ministry of Women AffairsWomen-only windows or quotas
Ministry of AgricultureInput loans and agricultural credit
Your local government councilLocal registration drives and verified market lists

Many state schemes are co-run with a bank or microfinance bank that disburses and collects the loan. National funds have worked the same way: the CBN's MSME Development Fund was channelled through participating financial institutions, and the 2020 Targeted Credit Facility through NIRSAL Microfinance Bank. Knowing the disbursing institution tells you who you will owe.

A five-step method

  1. Search the state's official site. State governments generally use addresses ending in .gov.ng. Look under ministries and agencies, not news pages.
  2. Check the state budget and recent press releases. Schemes are often announced at budget time or at a governor's event, with a named commissioner.
  3. Call or visit the agency. Ask for the scheme's name, eligibility, amount range, interest or charge, repayment period and the disbursing bank.
  4. Ask your trade association or cooperative. Market associations and cooperatives are often the registration channel, and know whether last year's payouts actually arrived.
  5. Confirm with the disbursing bank. A real scheme's bank partner will recognise it when you call its official line.

How to tell a scheme is official

  • It appears on the state government's or agency's own website, or in a release from the state's information ministry.
  • A named official is quoted, and there is a physical office you can visit.
  • Money is paid by a licensed bank or microfinance bank into an account in your own name.
  • No one asks for a fee to a personal account, your card PIN or an OTP. See fake government loan sites for the warning signs.
  • Repayment terms are written down before you accept.

Documents to have ready

State windows open and close quickly, so prepare in advance:

  • NIN and BVN.
  • A bank account in your name, ideally a business account.
  • CAC registration if your business has one, and your SMEDAN number; see how to get the SMEDAN number.
  • Evidence of trading: statements, invoices or a market association letter.
  • Membership certificate if applying through a cooperative; see how cooperative loans work.

A worked example

Example only. Grace runs a bakery in Enugu. She checks the state government's website and finds an MSME fund page under the commerce ministry, naming a microfinance bank as disburser. She calls the ministry's listed number, confirms the application window and that there is no application fee, then visits the microfinance bank, which confirms it is the partner and gives her the offer terms: amount, monthly repayment and tenor. Only then does she apply.

Questions to ask before you apply

State schemes vary widely, and a short phone call can save weeks. When you reach the ministry or agency, ask:

  • Is the scheme a loan, a grant or a mix? If a loan, what is the rate or charge, and is it flat or on a reducing balance?
  • What is the amount range, and is it paid in cash, in kind (equipment) or to a supplier?
  • Who disburses and who collects repayment: the state, a bank or a microfinance bank?
  • Is there a moratorium before repayment starts, and how long is the tenor?
  • What happens if you miss a payment? Is there a guarantor, cooperative or market association that is also liable?
  • When does the application window close, and when are funds expected?

Write down the name of the official you spoke to and the date. If the answers change between calls, that is a sign the scheme is not yet settled.

Federal schemes that run through states

Some federal programmes register applicants through state structures, such as market associations or local government offices. The TraderMoni model registered traders at their market shops; the 2020 Targeted Credit Facility ran through NIRSAL Microfinance Bank. If a 'state scheme' is actually a federal one, check the federal agency's site as well.

Where Pryme fits

State and bank partners usually want to see clean trading records. A Pryme Business Account keeps business income separate, and statements can be generated as verifiable documents through VerifyDoc.ai, so a reviewer can confirm they are unaltered; see receipts and statements.

Questions people ask

How do I find MSME loans in my state?

Contact your state's commerce or industry ministry, its SME or enterprise agency and its cooperative department, and check the state's official website for current windows.

Are state government loans interest-free?

Some are low-interest and some charge interest through a partner bank. The written offer shows the rate and fees; read it before accepting.

How do I know a state loan scheme is real?

It appears on the state's official site or in an official release, names a disbursing bank, and asks for no fee paid to a person.

Can I apply for a state loan through my cooperative?

Often yes. Many state schemes use cooperatives and market associations as the registration channel, so ask your society's executives.
