Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

FGN Savings Bond for US-based Nigerians: can you buy?

Yes: the monthly FGN Savings Bond is open to diaspora Nigerians through DMO distribution agents. Minimums, rates as at Oct 2026, and US tax points.

The short answer

Yes. The FGN Savings Bond, sold monthly by the Debt Management Office, is open to retail buyers including Nigerians in the diaspora, through DMO-accredited stockbrokers (distribution agents) or the DMO's subscription portal. You need a Nigerian bank account, a BVN and a CSCS account; the minimum is ₦5,000 and the maximum ₦50 million per offer. In the October 2026 offer the 2-year bond paid 13.071% and the 3-year 14.071%, with interest every quarter.

Who can buy

The NGX's FGN Savings Bond FAQ lists eligible buyers as retail investors, including small businesses, cooperatives, Nigerians in the diaspora and foreigners resident in Nigeria. The DMO's subscription portal FAQ adds that you need an existing CSCS account, and that the portal opens one for you if you do not have one.

Diaspora buyers face practical rather than legal hurdles: a Nigerian bank account to pay from and receive coupons into, a BVN (which you can obtain from abroad, see the non-resident BVN), and a broker or portal that accepts your documents remotely.

The terms

TermWhat the sources say
IssuerFederal Government of Nigeria, through the DMO
Tenors2 years and 3 years, offered every month
Unit price₦1,000 per unit
Minimum₦5,000, then multiples of ₦1,000
Maximum₦50,000,000 per offer
InterestFixed, paid quarterly; principal repaid in one sum at maturity
Rates, Oct 2026 offer2-year 13.071%, 3-year 14.071% (3-year was 15.12% in Sept 2026)
ListingNGX; can be sold before maturity through a stockbroker

Each offer is open for about five days. The October 2026 offer opened on 5 October, closed on 9 October and settled on 14 October, with coupons on 14 January, April, July and October. Rates change monthly; the DMO publishes each offer on its website. Check the current offer before you subscribe.

How to buy from the US

  1. Get your BVN and a Nigerian bank account in your name.
  2. Choose a route: a DMO-accredited distribution agent (the DMO publishes the list) or the DMO subscription portal.
  3. Open or confirm your CSCS account; a stockbroker sets this up and the portal can create one.
  4. Complete the subscription form during the offer window, with your bank details for coupon payments.
  5. Pay in naira from your Nigerian account. The DMO says there is no transaction fee on primary subscription.
  6. Check the allotment and your CSCS holding after settlement.

Selling before maturity goes through a stockbroker on the NGX, where exchange charges apply and the price depends on current yields; interest stops at the sale date. Hold to maturity and the face value is paid automatically.

A worked example

Example: ₦1,000,000 in the 3-year bond at the October 2026 rate of 14.071% earns ₦140,710 a year, paid as four coupons of ₦35,177.50. Over three years that is ₦422,130 in interest, plus the ₦1,000,000 back at maturity. In dollar terms the outcome depends on the exchange rate when you bought and when you convert back; a weaker naira can cut the dollar return sharply, so treat this as a naira asset for naira needs.

How it compares with other federal options

The savings bond is the federal government's retail product, and its low minimum is the main reason diaspora savers use it. The alternatives sit at very different entry points:

InstrumentMinimumInterestNotes
FGN Savings Bond₦5,000QuarterlyMonthly offers; 2 or 3 years
Domestic FGN US Dollar Bond (2024 issue)US$10,000, then US$1,000Half-yearlyOpen to diaspora buyers with BVN and NIN; paid in dollars
Treasury billsSet by dealerDiscount at purchaseWithholding tax now applies to short-term securities

For someone who wants dollar exposure, the domestic dollar bond, when one is on offer, avoids naira risk altogether; the 2024 issue's FAQ said diaspora investors needed a BVN and NIN. For small, regular naira saving, the savings bond is the easiest federal product to reach. You can also spread purchases across several months so that your holdings mature at different dates and you are not tied to one rate.

What can go wrong

  • Missing the window: each offer is open for only a few days, so arrange your broker and funds before it opens.
  • Coupon account problems: if the bank account you gave is closed or the name does not match, coupons can be delayed. Update details through the portal or your broker.
  • Selling early at a loss: if yields rise after you buy, the market price of your bond falls, and selling before maturity crystallises that loss.

Tax in Nigeria and the US

The DMO portal FAQ says "bonds are not taxed". When Nigeria's tax authority directed withholding tax on short-term securities in late 2025, KPMG noted that interest on FGN bonds remained exempt.

In the US the position is different. US citizens and residents are taxed on worldwide income, so coupon interest is reportable in dollars in the year received. Holdings may also count towards FBAR and Form 8938 thresholds. See FGN bond coupons and US tax and buying FGN bonds from the US. For how the bond works at home, see how FGN Savings Bonds work.

Where Pryme fits

You can hold dollars and naira in one Pryme account and convert with Swap when an offer opens; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Use your Pryme naira account details as the account for your coupons if your broker accepts it.

Questions people ask

Can Nigerians abroad buy FGN Savings Bonds?

Yes. The NGX FAQ lists diaspora Nigerians among eligible retail buyers, through DMO-accredited distribution agents or the DMO portal.

What is the minimum for an FGN Savings Bond?

₦5,000, then multiples of ₦1,000, up to ₦50 million per offer.

How often is FGN Savings Bond interest paid?

Every three months, with the principal repaid at maturity.

Is FGN Savings Bond interest taxable in the US?

For US citizens and residents, yes: worldwide income is reportable, even though Nigeria does not tax it.
