Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Farm investment schemes in Nigeria: checks before paying from SA

Before sending rand to a Nigerian agric scheme, check SEC Nigeria registration, the scheme's approval and the farm papers. The red flags the SEC names.

The short answer

Before paying into a Nigerian farm investment scheme from South Africa, search the operator on SEC Nigeria's Find a Registered Operator page and ask for the SEC approval of the scheme itself, not just a CAC certificate. The SEC sealed the offices of unregistered agro schemes in 2022, including Farmforte Agro Allied Solutions, and names unrealistic promises and missing regulatory approval as the main warning signs.

Why agric schemes reach the diaspora

Farm investment offers are easy to sell to Nigerians abroad: a cycle of poultry, cassava or rice, a fixed return at harvest, photos of green fields on Instagram, and the feeling of supporting food production at home. Some are real businesses. Others pool money from many people, pay early investors from later ones and collapse when new money slows. From South Africa you cannot walk the farm, so the checks have to happen on paper and through people you trust.

When a farm offer is a regulated investment

There is a legal line worth knowing. Buying a plot, leasing farmland or paying a farmer to grow a crop you own is a commercial contract. Putting money into a pool run by someone else, for a promised share of profits you have no control over, looks like a collective investment, and offering that to the public needs SEC Nigeria's approval. The SEC's notice of 17 March 2022 said it had shut the offices of Farmforte Agro Allied Solutions Ltd (also trading as AgroPartnerships), Oxford International Group and Vektr Capital Investment on 14 March 2022, that "none of these entities is registered by the SEC", and that their schemes were not authorised. It told the public to confirm registration and authorisation with the SEC.

The SEC's Known Investment Scams page lists sealed operators including Farmforte Agro Allied Solutions and Ovaioza Farm Produce Storage Business, both from 2022. Its homepage also notes that the Investments and Securities Act 2025 has replaced the 2007 Act.

Checks you can do from South Africa

  1. Search SEC Nigeria's register. The Find a Registered Operator page shows each registered firm's function, CAC number, address, fidelity bond, sponsored individuals, status and registration date. A farm operator raising money from the public should appear there, or should be using a registered fund manager or crowdfunding portal that does.
  2. Ask for the scheme's approval. Registration of a firm is not approval of every product. Ask for the SEC letter approving this scheme and confirm it with the SEC by email.
  3. Check the company. Confirm the CAC registration, directors and registered address, and compare them with the names on the contract and bank account.
  4. Ask for the land documents. Who owns or leases the farm? Ask for the lease or title, the location and the size, and have someone visit.
  5. Read the contract. What exactly do you own: a share of a company, units in a fund, a crop, or only a promise? What happens if the harvest fails?
  6. Look for audited accounts from past cycles, not testimonials.
  7. Search the name with "SEC" and "fraud" in Nigerian news before you pay.

Red flags

The SEC lists the warning signs as "unrealistic promises, lack of regulatory approvals, and opaque business operations". In farm schemes they tend to look like this:

  • A fixed return promised regardless of weather, prices or pests.
  • Returns paid on a timetable shorter than the crop or livestock cycle.
  • Bonuses for bringing in friends, or pressure to reinvest rather than withdraw.
  • Payment to a personal account, or a different company from the one on the contract.
  • No farm location you can visit, or a farm shared by several schemes.
  • Only a CAC certificate offered as proof of being "registered".

Worked example: what the promise implies

Example only. A scheme promises 30% in six months on a ₦1,000,000 poultry unit. That is ₦300,000 of profit in half a year. To pay it from farming alone, the birds must sell for enough to cover feed, medicine, labour, transport and the operator's margin and still leave 30% for you. Ask the operator for the cost sheet that produces ₦1,300,000 of value from ₦1,000,000. If they cannot show it, or the return is the same in every cycle whatever happens to feed prices, the money is probably coming from somewhere other than the farm.

If you have already paid

  • Ask in writing for a statement of your investment and the farm's records, and keep every message and receipt.
  • Report the operator to the SEC through its whistleblowing channel on the Known Investment Scams page.
  • Tell your South African bank if you paid recently; it may be able to trace the payment.
  • Be wary of "recovery agents" who ask for an upfront fee to get your money back.

Our guides to farmland and crop investment contracts and poultry and fish farm investments from abroad cover legitimate structures. The Nigeria library covers Ponzi and investment scams more widely.

Where Pryme fits

If you decide to fund a farm you control, a Pryme Personal Account lets you hold naira and send to a named business account with the rate and the fee shown before you approve. Ask the farm for a verifiable receipt for each payment; Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai lets anyone check a verifiable receipt is genuine and unaltered (receipts).

Questions people ask

How do I check if a Nigerian investment company is registered with the SEC?

Search SEC Nigeria's Find a Registered Operator page and ask for the SEC approval of the specific scheme, then confirm it with the SEC.

Is a CAC certificate enough for a farm investment scheme?

No. A CAC certificate shows a company exists. Raising money from the public for a pooled scheme needs SEC Nigeria's approval.

Which agro investment schemes did the SEC shut down?

The SEC's March 2022 notice named Farmforte Agro Allied Solutions (AgroPartnerships) among unregistered operators whose offices were sealed.

What returns are realistic for farm investments in Nigeria?

There is no fixed figure. Returns depend on costs, prices and harvests, so a guaranteed fixed return in a short cycle is a warning sign.
