Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Fake HMRC calls and texts aimed at newcomers

HMRC says it never tells you about a tax rebate by text. How real HMRC contact works, the common scams sent to newcomers, and where to report them.

The short answer

HMRC says it will never send a notification of a tax rebate by text and will not ask for personal or payment details by text, and it does not use social media to offer refunds. Forward suspicious HMRC texts to 60599 and emails to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk, report scam calls through HMRC's online service, and if you have lost money, contact your bank straight away and report it to Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

Newcomers are an easy target for tax scams. You have a new National Insurance number, a new tax code, perhaps an emergency tax refund due, and little idea what a real HMRC letter looks like. Scammers rely on that. A text saying "You are due a tax refund of £326, claim here" lands in your first month, or a recorded voice warns that a case has been opened against you. Here is how to tell the difference and what to do.

How HMRC really contacts you

  • Tax refunds for employees come through payroll or a P800 tax calculation letter, which you claim online with the letter's reference and your National Insurance number. See claiming a tax refund after leaving a job.
  • HMRC says that when it does ask for personal or payment information by email, it uses hmrc.gov.uk addresses. Check the sender's full address, not just the display name.
  • HMRC publishes a list of genuine contacts to help you decide whether an email, call, text or letter could be a scam.

What HMRC says it will never do

ChannelHMRC's own statement
Text messageWill never send a notification of a tax rebate, and will not ask for personal or payment information
Social mediaNever used to offer a tax rebate or ask for personal or financial information
EmailAsks for personal or payment information only from hmrc.gov.uk addresses

Scams newcomers commonly report

HMRC's published examples have covered tax rebate phishing emails, high-volume "tax return" emails, recorded phone messages threatening legal action, calls about National Insurance number fraud, WhatsApp messages and customs duty scams. The patterns that hit new arrivals:

  • The refund text. A link to a page that copies GOV.UK and asks for card details to "receive" a refund. A real refund never needs your card number.
  • The threat call. A recorded or live caller says you owe tax, a warrant or case is open, and you must pay today, sometimes by gift cards or transfer to a "safe account". Callers may mention your visa to frighten you; the threat is the scam.
  • The NI number call. A caller claims your National Insurance number has been used in a crime and must be "reissued" after you confirm details.
  • The social media helper. An account offering to sort your tax for a fee or claim a refund for you. HMRC says it does not offer rebates on social media.

The FCA's general warning signs fit all of these: unexpected contact, pressure to act fast, secrecy and claims of official authority. Similar calls impersonate the Nigeria High Commission; see High Commission scam calls.

Simple habits that stop most of these

  • Never click a link in a text about tax. Go to GOV.UK yourself, or open the HMRC app.
  • Never give a caller your card number, banking passcode or one-time code.
  • Treat any demand to pay tax with gift cards, crypto or a transfer to a personal account as a warning sign.
  • Check any letter's reference against your HMRC online account.
  • Tell new arrivals in your family, church or association what real HMRC contact looks like; scammers often work through whole communities.

Lost money (England, Wales, NI)
Your bank first, then Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040

If you have already paid or shared details

  1. Call your bank on the number on the back of your card. Ask them to stop further payments.
  2. If you sent money by bank transfer within the UK, ask about reimbursement. Nationwide's page explains that since 7 October 2024 most victims of authorised push payment scams sent by Faster Payments or CHAPS can claim up to £85,000, within 13 months of the last payment. International payments are excluded.
  3. Change the password on your HMRC account and email if you entered them anywhere.
  4. Report to Report Fraud and keep the reference number.
  5. Watch your credit file for applications you did not make.

Keep screenshots of the text, the caller's number and any payment confirmation. Banks and Report Fraud both ask for them, and they help if you later need to show you were the victim, not the account holder behind the scam.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme accounts use an authenticator app rather than SMS codes, plus a transaction PIN (security), so a code sent by text is never part of approving a payment. Fake bank and support calls work the same way in Nigeria; see fake bank customer care and reporting a remittance scam.

Questions people ask

Does HMRC send texts about tax refunds?

No. HMRC says it will never send a notification of a tax rebate by text. Forward any such text to 60599.

How do I report a fake HMRC call?

Use HMRC's online service for reporting suspicious calls on GOV.UK. If you lost money, call your bank and report to Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

What is the HMRC phishing email address?

phishing@hmrc.gov.uk. GOV.UK says to forward the email and then delete it.

Can HMRC deport me for unpaid tax over the phone?

A caller threatening immediate action unless you pay now is a recognised scam pattern. Hang up and check with HMRC using the contacts on GOV.UK.
