Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Bills

How to pay DStv on PalmPay

Paying DStv from the PalmPay app: the bill steps, what PalmPay's store listings say about cashback and fees, and how long renewal takes.

The short answer

In the PalmPay app, open bill payments, choose TV and DStv, enter your smartcard number, pick the package or amount and approve with your PIN. PalmPay's app store listings mention cashback and discounts on bills without giving rates, and do not state a DStv fee, so check the confirmation screen; renewal usually reflects once the decoder, switched on, receives the update.

PalmPay describes itself on Google Play as a mobile money operator licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria, and its App Store listing is titled "PalmPay - Transfers & Bills". Paying DStv from it takes a minute once you know where the TV option is. This guide sets out the steps, what PalmPay's own listings say about charges and rewards, and what to do if your decoder does not come back on.

What you need

  • Your DStv smartcard number (also called the IUC number). See our smartcard number guide.
  • The amount due, from MyDStv or DStv's *288# service.
  • Enough in your PalmPay balance.
  • The decoder switched on while you pay, as MultiChoice advises.

Steps in the PalmPay app

  1. Open PalmPay and sign in.
  2. Tap the bills section and choose TV (labels vary between versions).
  3. Select DStv.
  4. Enter the smartcard number and check the name returned against the account holder.
  5. Choose the package or enter the amount.
  6. Check the total and any cashback or discount shown, then approve with your PIN.
  7. Save or screenshot the receipt.

PalmPay's own website did not display its content as plain text when checked in October 2026, so these steps follow the bill flow described in its app listings rather than a PalmPay help article. If your screens differ, follow the app's labels.

Fees and cashback

QuestionWhat PalmPay's listings say (Oct 2026)
DStv bill feeNot stated
Cashback or discounts on billsMentioned, no rates given
Transfers"All Transfers are free on PalmPay" (Google Play)
Deposit insuranceListing says deposits are insured by the NDIC

Because no bill fee or cashback rate is published, the confirmation screen is where you find both. If a cashback is shown, read when and how it is credited; rewards often arrive as a balance or voucher rather than as a discount on the payment itself. Treat percentages quoted on blogs as unconfirmed.

How long renewal takes

PalmPay does not publish a confirmation time for DStv on its listings. DStv's payment page gives a timing only for Quickteller payments (within 5 minutes, decoder on), but the same principle applies: the decoder must be on to receive the update. If the screen is dark a few minutes after a successful payment:

  1. Check the balance due in MyDStv or on *288#.
  2. If it is ₦0, clear the error with the decoder on and wait about 15 minutes. See how to clear E16.
  3. If the full amount is still due, contact PalmPay with the receipt. Its listings give 018886888 (developer replies give 02018886888) and support@palmpay.com.
  4. Do not pay twice while the first payment is unresolved.

Common reasons a PalmPay DStv payment fails

  • Insufficient balance once any fee is added. Top up and retry rather than paying part of the bill.
  • The smartcard number returns no name or the wrong name. Stop and check the number with the decoder owner.
  • The amount entered is below the package price. MultiChoice lists underpayment as a cause of E16, so match the amount MyDStv shows.
  • A temporary outage on the biller's side. Wait and retry later; check your transaction history first so you do not pay twice.

Most of these are avoidable with a quick check of MyDStv before you open PalmPay: the amount due, the package on the account and the due date. That single check removes the two errors that cause most dark screens after payment, underpaying and paying for the wrong account.

If the app shows the payment as pending, give it time before raising a complaint, and keep the decoder switched on so the update can land when the payment completes.

Worked example

Example only. Halima renews Confam (₦11,000 as at October 2026) for her mother's decoder in another city. She enters her mother's smartcard number, checks the name returned is her mother's, sees a small cashback offer on the confirmation screen and approves. She sends the receipt to her mother and asks her to keep the decoder on for the next half hour. Paying for a relative works on any app that asks for the smartcard number; the name check is the safeguard against a mistyped digit.

Keeping the account safe

  • Use only the official PalmPay app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Never share your PIN or one-time codes, even with someone claiming to be PalmPay or DStv.
  • DStv's official WhatsApp is +234 908 236 8533; ignore other numbers that message you first.

Where Pryme fits

The Pryme app also lists cable TV under bills, paid from your Naira balance with the total shown before you approve: TV subscriptions on Pryme. For other routes, see our OPay DStv guide and cable TV renewal guide.
