Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

DStv error E16: what it means and how to clear it

E16 means your decoder cannot show the channel you chose. Check payment first, then clear it via MyDStv, *288#, or WhatsApp, in that order.

The short answer

E16 ("Service is currently scrambled") appears when your decoder is not allowed to show the channel you chose, most often because the subscription is unpaid or underpaid, or the decoder was off when you paid. Confirm your payment, keep the decoder on, then clear it in MyDStv (Manage account, Clear error codes, E16) or on *288#, option 5; DStv says it takes about 15 minutes.

E16 is the error DStv viewers in Nigeria see most often. DStv's error code list titles it "Service is currently scrambled". MultiChoice's own FAQ defines it as a decoder error that appears when a customer cannot view the product they want. It is usually an account problem, not a broken decoder, and it can normally be cleared without calling anyone.

Why E16 appears

MultiChoice lists five causes:

  1. The subscription is unpaid, or the amount paid is less than the package costs.
  2. You are on a channel that is not in your package.
  3. The decoder software is out of date.
  4. The decoder was switched off when the payment was made.
  5. The installation is faulty and the signal is weak.

The first and fourth are by far the most common. If you paid while the decoder was off, the payment may be on your account but the "switch on" signal has not reached the box.

Step 1: confirm the payment

Clearing the error does nothing if the account is not fully paid. Check your balance due in the MyDStv app, on the DStv website, or by dialling *288# from the phone number registered on your account and choosing Check Balance. If the amount due is more than zero, pay the difference first. Paying the full package price, not a round figure, avoids the "less than the subscription cost" trap.

Step 2: clear E16, in this order

Switch the decoder on and tune to a channel in your package before you start. DStv's pages give these routes.

1. MyDStv app or website

  1. Sign in to MyDStv.
  2. Select Manage account.
  3. Select Clear error codes.
  4. Choose E16 Error.
  5. Select Clear error.
  6. Leave the decoder on and wait about 15 minutes.

2. USSD: *288#

DStv Nigeria's contact page lists *288#, which must be dialled from the number registered on your DStv account. DStv's USSD FAQ gives the path: choose option 5 to fix errors, validate your account details, enter and save your smartcard (IUC) number, then select the error code. E16 is error code 1. Wait about 15 minutes.

3. WhatsApp

DStv Nigeria's contact page gives +234 908 236 8533 as its WhatsApp number. Have your smartcard number and surname ready, send a greeting, verify your details and choose option 2, "Fix Errors on Decoder". DStv's FAQ says you are then redirected to the MyDStv app to clear the error, so route 1 is usually quicker if you already have the app.

If E16 will not go away

  • Check the software: press Help on the remote, then General Information, then Information Central, and look at the software status. Update if prompted.
  • Check the signal: Help, General Information, Tuner Status, and look at Tuner 1 and Tuner 2. If the signal is low, DStv advises contacting an installer. Our E48-32 signal guide covers dish and cable checks.
  • Make sure you are not on a channel outside your package. A channel from a higher bouquet shows E16 even on a fully paid account.
  • Contact DStv through web chat, WhatsApp or dstvnigeria@ng.multichoice.com with your smartcard number and payment reference.

How to stop E16 coming back

Most repeat cases come from the same few habits, so a little routine saves a lot of waiting.

  • Pay before the due date, not after the screen goes dark. Our due date guide shows where to see it.
  • Leave the decoder on standby, not switched off at the wall, on the day you pay.
  • Pay the amount MyDStv or *288# shows, especially after a price change or a package change. A payment made at an old price leaves a shortfall.
  • If you change package, wait until the change shows on the account before paying the new amount.
  • Let software updates finish when the decoder prompts you; an out-of-date decoder is one of MultiChoice's listed causes.

If several people in a house pay at different times, agree who pays and from which channel, so the account is neither underpaid nor paid twice.

Worked example

Example only. Ada renews Compact, listed at ₦19,000 as at October 2026, at 11pm with the decoder switched off at the wall. Next morning the screen shows E16. MyDStv shows ₦0 due, so the payment arrived. She switches the decoder on, tunes to a Compact channel, clears E16 in MyDStv and waits 15 minutes. Had MyDStv shown ₦1,000 due because she paid ₦18,000, clearing alone would not have worked; she would need to pay the ₦1,000 first. For more on this, see reconnecting DStv after payment. GOtv users have a similar route: see GOtv E16.

Where Pryme fits

Paying the exact amount due, with the decoder on, prevents most E16 cases. In the Pryme app you can pay DStv from your Naira balance and see the amount before you approve: TV subscriptions on Pryme. See also our cable TV renewal guide.

Questions people ask

What does E16 mean on DStv?

DStv titles it "Service is currently scrambled": the decoder is not allowed to show that channel, usually because of unpaid or underpaid subscription or the decoder being off at payment.

How do I clear E16 on DStv with my phone?

Dial *288# from your registered number, choose option 5 (fix errors), enter your smartcard number and select error code 1 (E16). Or use MyDStv: Manage account, Clear error codes, E16.

What is the DStv WhatsApp number to clear error?

DStv Nigeria's contact page lists +234 908 236 8533. Choose option 2, Fix Errors on Decoder.

I paid but DStv still shows E16, what do I do?

Check the balance due is zero, switch the decoder on, tune to a channel in your package and clear the error, then wait about 15 minutes. If it persists, check software and signal, then contact DStv.
