Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Buying land in Makurdi from abroad: verify at the Benue registry

Survey plan, BENGIS search, C of O, flood-zone and family consent checks: how to verify a Makurdi plot from abroad before any money leaves your account.

The short answer

Before paying for land in Makurdi from abroad, have a lawyer in Benue run a land verification at the Ministry of Lands or BENGIS against the seller's survey plan, confirm any C of O is genuine and unencumbered, check whether the plot sits in a low-lying flood area, and get written consent from the family heads if it is family land. Pay in stages against each verified step, never in one lump sum to a relative or agent.

Why buying from abroad needs extra care

Diaspora buyers are attractive targets because they cannot walk the land, cannot easily attend the registry and often rely on a relative or friend. The common failures are land sold to more than one buyer, land sold by someone without the authority to sell, plots inside a government acquisition, and land that floods. Every one of them can be caught before payment if the checks below are done in order.

In Benue, land records sit with the Ministry of Lands at the State Secretariat in Makurdi and with BENGIS, the Benue Geographic Information System, which handles land registration, cadastral mapping and title verification. BENGIS says it is working towards online applications, but in October 2026 its FAQ still points applicants to its office and phone line, so you will need someone on the ground.

Step 1: get the survey plan and chart it

Ask the seller for a copy of the survey plan with coordinates, prepared by a registered surveyor. Your own surveyor or lawyer should check the coordinates against the state's records, a step usually called charting. This shows whether the plot is free, already allocated to someone else, or inside land the government has acquired for roads or other projects.

Step 2: search the registry

The Benue Ministry of Lands strongly recommends a land verification at the ministry before any land transaction, to confirm ownership status, encumbrances and authenticity. BENGIS lists land verification among its services and says it covers ownership, title status and encumbrances. Ask your lawyer to obtain the written search result and send you a scan.

  • Does the name on the record match the seller?
  • Is there a mortgage, caveat or court case on the land?
  • If the seller shows a C of O, does the registry confirm it was issued for this plot?

Our guide to getting a C of O in Benue explains the title process if the land has none yet.

Step 3: check flood exposure

This is the step diaspora buyers most often skip. The 2026 Benue flood guide, built on the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency outlook, names Makurdi an urban flood hotspot with high risk, mainly from River Benue overbank flooding in its low-lying town centre and along the river corridor. It notes the 2025 peak at Makurdi came on 15 October.

  • Ask your representative to visit in September or October, when water is highest, and photograph the plot and the access road.
  • Ask neighbours whether water reached the land in recent years.
  • Check the plot's height against the road and the nearest drainage channel.

Much land around Makurdi is held by families or communities. A sale by one member, even an elder, may be challenged if others with authority did not consent. Your lawyer should identify who can sign for the family, get their written consent on the agreement, and record witnesses. Visiting the community head before payment helps confirm who actually farms or occupies the land.

Step 5: hire your own lawyer and pay in stages

Use a lawyer in Benue whom you chose and pay, not one introduced by the seller. You can give a limited power of attorney so the lawyer can conduct searches and sign on your behalf; keep its scope narrow. This is information, not legal advice; your lawyer will advise on the documents your case needs.

StageRelease payment when
DepositSurvey plan charted and registry search clean
Main paymentFamily consent signed and agreement executed
BalanceDeed or transfer documents lodged and receipts received

Pay to an account in the seller's own name or the lawyer's client account, never in cash through a relative, and ask for a receipt for each stage.

Red flags that should stop the deal

  • The seller will not give you a copy of the survey plan, or the coordinates do not match the land shown in photos.
  • You are told the registry search is "not necessary" or "already done" but no written result is produced.
  • The price is far below others in the same area and you are pressed to pay this week.
  • The account for payment is in a different name from the seller's, or changes at the last minute.
  • Family members you contact independently say they have not agreed to a sale.
  • Your representative cannot reach the land by road in the rainy season.

Any one of these is a reason to pause. Walking away from a plot costs you nothing; recovering money paid for land you do not own can take years in court.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme accounts can be opened from any country and hold NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each, so you can keep land money in your earning currency and convert with Swap only when a stage is due, seeing the rate and fee before you approve (multicurrency accounts). Outside Nigeria, these services are provided through regulated partners. Ask the seller or lawyer for a verifiable receipt for each payment (receipts). For saving towards a plot, see how to save for land.

Questions people ask

How can I verify land in Makurdi from abroad?

Instruct a Benue lawyer to chart the survey plan and run a land verification at the Ministry of Lands or BENGIS, then send you the written result before you pay anything significant.

What is BENGIS land search?

BENGIS, the Benue Geographic Information System, verifies land ownership, title status and encumbrances. Contact it on +234 708 064 0436 or bengis@benuestate.gov.ng.

Is land near the river in Makurdi safe to buy?

The 2026 Benue flood guide names Makurdi's low-lying town centre and river corridor high-risk for flooding. Inspect in September or October and ask neighbours.

Can my brother sign for land in Makurdi on my behalf?

A relative can act under a power of attorney, but you are safer using your own lawyer and paying in stages to the seller's account, not through a relative in cash.
