Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Credit bureau clearance letter: what it is and who asks for it

Asked for a credit bureau clearance? What the document usually is, why employers and others request it, and how to get one from a bureau.

The short answer

A credit bureau "clearance letter" is usually a request for your credit report or status report from a licensed bureau, showing whether you have outstanding or defaulted facilities. None of the bureau pages we checked sells a product with that exact name; what you obtain is a self-enquiry report, such as CRC's ₦5,000 consumer report (as at Oct 2026), or your free annual report.

Recruiters, especially in banking and finance, sometimes tell a candidate to "bring your credit bureau clearance". The same request turns up for some board and public appointments, guarantor forms and certain applications abroad. The phrase causes confusion because no bureau issues a certificate that says you are "cleared". This guide explains what the requester almost always wants and how to provide it.

What the requester usually means

A Nigerian credit bureau holds your credit record: identity details, addresses and employment history, enquiries, credit facilities, security, dishonoured cheques and suits filed (CRC FAQs, Oct 2026). A "clearance" is shorthand for evidence drawn from that record that you have no serious unpaid debts. In practice it is one of three things:

Self-enquiry credit report
A full report on your record, which you buy or obtain free from the bureau and hand over. This is what most requesters accept.
Status or no-default confirmation
A short statement that no delinquent facility is recorded against you. Ask the requester whether a full report is acceptable instead, since this format varies.
Report pulled by the requester
An employer that subscribes to a bureau pulls your report itself, with your written consent.

Who asks for it and why

The Credit Reporting Act 2017 lists employment checks on employees among the permissible purposes for using credit information, alongside lending, tenancy assessment and enforcing judgments (Simmons & Simmons summary, Sept 2017). That gives employers a lawful basis to ask, with consent. Typical requesters include:

  • Banks and other financial institutions recruiting staff who will handle money
  • Organisations appointing directors, trustees or treasurers
  • Lenders asking for a report on a guarantor
  • Landlords and property managers for higher-value lets
  • Some foreign institutions or sponsors asking for evidence of financial standing; confirm with them whether a Nigerian bureau report is what they want, since many ask for bank statements instead

Steps: getting a report to submit

  1. Ask the requester exactly what they need: which bureau, a full report or a summary, and how recent it must be.
  2. Go to the bureau's official website and create an account. CRC's site describes registering, verifying your account, adding the report to a cart and paying, after which the report is sent to you by email.
  3. Use your free entitlement if it fits. The Act gives you a free report every year; CRC applies it through the code FREEREPORT at checkout, and FirstCentral's site says it offers one free report a month (as at Oct 2026).
  4. Otherwise buy a self-enquiry report. CRC lists its consumer self-enquiry report at ₦5,000 and its score alone at ₦400 (as at Oct 2026; check the site for today's price).
  5. Read it before you send it. If something is wrong, dispute it first; the bureau must resolve disputes within ten working days under the Act.
  6. Send it securely to the named person only, and keep a copy.

If your report shows a problem

An adverse entry does not have to end the process. Common situations:

  • A loan you repaid still shows as outstanding. Get a letter of non-indebtedness from the lender and ask it to update the bureau. See fixing a report that still shows a balance.
  • A loan you never took. Dispute it at once; see a loan in your name you never took.
  • A real default. Settle or agree a plan with the lender, ask for written confirmation, and explain it to the requester with evidence.
  • An empty file. That is not a default. Tell the requester you have no reported credit history and offer bank statements.

For what each status term on a report means, see performing, delinquent and lost.

A lender's letter versus a bureau report

Some requesters want a letter from your bank or former lender, not a bureau document. The two answer different questions:

Letter of non-indebtedness
Issued by one lender, confirming that a named facility is fully repaid. It speaks only for that lender.
Bureau self-enquiry report
Issued by a licensed bureau, showing every facility reported to it by all its data providers.

If you have recently cleared a loan, send both: the bureau report may still show the old balance until the lender's next monthly update, and the lender's letter explains the gap. Ask the requester which format their policy names, and get the answer in writing so you do not pay for the wrong document.

Where Pryme fits

Requesters often want bank statements alongside a bureau report. A Pryme customer can generate a regular or a verifiable statement with VerifyDoc.ai, and the recipient can verify that a verifiable one is genuine and unaltered; see receipts and statements.

Questions people ask

How do I get a credit bureau clearance in Nigeria?

Request your credit report from a licensed bureau's website, using your free annual report or a paid self-enquiry report, and submit that. Ask the requester which bureau they want.

How much is a CRC credit report?

CRC listed its consumer self-enquiry report at ₦5,000 and its score at ₦400 in October 2026, with one free report a year. Check the site for the current price.

Why do banks ask job applicants for a credit report?

Employment checks are a permissible purpose under the Credit Reporting Act 2017, and roles that handle money often require evidence of good financial conduct.

How long is a credit bureau report valid for a job?

There is no legal validity period. The requester decides how recent it must be, so ask them.
