Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Credit report still shows a balance after settlement: fix it

You repaid the loan but the bureau still shows a balance. The lender's duty to update, the timelines that apply and the dispute route, in order.

The short answer

If you have settled a loan and your credit report still shows a balance, ask the lender to update the bureaus and dispute the entry with each bureau that holds it. Under CBN guidelines lenders must update data at least monthly and fix confirmed errors within fifteen working days; under the Credit Reporting Act a bureau must resolve a dispute within ten working days, after which you can escalate to the CBN.

You paid the last instalment, maybe months ago, yet your report still shows money owed or, worse, a past-due status. That can cost you a loan, a tenancy or a job offer. The cause is usually simple: the lender has not sent an updated record, or the update did not match your file. The fix is a paper trail and a sequence of steps.

Why the balance has not cleared

  • Timing. Lenders send updates on a cycle. If you settled after this month's submission, the change may only appear after the next one.
  • The lender has not closed the facility in its own system, often because of a small residual charge or interest you did not know about.
  • The update went to one bureau but not another. Banks report to at least two bureaus, and a correction at one does not flow to the others.
  • A matching failure. The update did not attach to your file because of a name or identity mismatch.
  • The debt was sold or passed to a recovery agent and nobody updated the original record.

The rules that apply

RuleWhat it saysSource
Lender updatesChanges to submitted data must be updated at least monthly, or more often if the bureau requiresCBN credit bureau guidelines 2013, s.5.4.5

Accurate data staysAccurate information cannot be deleted, only corrected where wrongCRC FAQs

The last row matters. If you paid late before settling, the late payments are accurate and will remain; what should change is the balance and the status, which should show the facility as closed or settled.

Steps to fix it

  1. Get proof of settlement. Ask the lender for a letter of non-indebtedness or closure letter on its letterhead, stating the facility, the date it was settled and a zero balance. Keep your payment receipts.
  2. Pull your reports from all three bureaus. Use your free annual entitlement. Note which ones show the wrong balance.
  3. Write to the lender. Attach the letter and ask it to submit an updated record to every bureau it reports to. Ask for a reference number and a date.
  4. Dispute with each bureau. Use the dispute option on its website (FirstCentral has a dispute link; CRC lists a phone line and email in its FAQs). Attach the closure letter. The bureau checks with the lender.
  5. Track the clock. Ten working days for the bureau or provider to resolve it. If they do not, escalate.
  6. Escalate to the CBN with copies of everything if the dispute is unresolved; the CBN has a further ten working days under the Act. After that, the courts.
  7. Pull the report again to confirm the correction, and ask the bureau to notify anyone who saw the wrong entry in the past three months.

When the lender says you still owe

Sometimes the balance is real: a late fee, accrued interest or a charge added after your last payment. Ask for a full statement of the account. If you disagree, raise a complaint with the lender in writing first; the bureau will normally record what the lender confirms. Pay any small genuine residue so the facility can close, and get the closure letter dated after that payment.

If the debt was passed to a recovery agent, ask the original lender in writing who now holds it and whether your settlement was recorded against it. The original lender is the data provider that reported the facility, so it is the one that must send the update to the bureaus, whoever collected the money.

Where Pryme fits

Keep your proof. A Pryme customer can generate a regular or a verifiable receipt or statement with VerifyDoc.ai, which a lender or bureau can check is genuine and unaltered; see receipts and statements. For more on disputes see disputing an error on your report and whether paying off a loan removes it. For the wider system, see how Nigerian bureaus work.

Questions people ask

How long does it take for a paid loan to reflect on my credit report?

Lenders must update bureaus at least monthly under CBN guidelines, so allow for the next update cycle. If it has not changed after that, dispute it.

What is a letter of non-indebtedness?

A letter from the lender confirming that a facility has been fully repaid and nothing is owed. It is your main evidence in a dispute.

Can I report a lender to the CBN for not updating my credit report?

Yes. If the bureau and lender do not resolve your dispute within ten working days, the Credit Reporting Act allows escalation to the CBN.

Will my late payments disappear after I settle?

No. Accurate history stays on the report. What should change is the balance and the status of the facility.
