Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Buying Nigerian cashew or sesame in bulk: the export chain

How bulk cashew and sesame move from farms and aggregators to a Lagos port, the quality and paperwork checks at each step, and how to pay safely.

The short answer

Bulk Nigerian cashew and sesame pass from smallholders to aggregators and warehouses, then to an exporter who cleans, grades and bags them, gets inspection and a NAQS phytosanitary certificate, files Form NXP and clears customs before loading. Buyers should insist on an independent pre-shipment inspection, a lab report on the lot, and payment to the exporter's own domiciliary account. Sesame bound for Great Britain faces Salmonella checks on 50% of consignments.

Cashew and sesame are among Nigeria's most important non-oil exports, and diaspora traders increasingly buy them by the container for processors, roasters and wholesalers abroad. The produce is grown by many small farmers, so the chain to the port is long, and quality can change at every step. Knowing the chain is how you know where to check.

The chain from farm to port

  1. Farm gate: smallholders harvest and dry the crop. Moisture and foreign matter are set here.
  2. Local buyers and aggregators: buy in small lots and bulk them up, often in rural markets.
  3. Warehouse: stock is stored, sometimes for months, then sorted, cleaned and bagged.
  4. Exporter: a registered company buys from aggregators, grades the produce to the contract, arranges inspection and documents, and sells to you.
  5. Port: the container is stuffed, cleared by customs and loaded at Apapa, Tin Can, Lekki or Onne.

Your contract is with the exporter. Ask it which aggregators and states the lot comes from, and how long it has been stored.

Raw cashew export policy: what has been reported in 2026

In January 2026 the Guardian reported that the Federal Government had placed a ban on unprocessed cashew exports, which the National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) rejected, saying Nigeria was "not ready for the ban yet"; a government official urged processors to add 30% value before export. By September 2026 MSME Africa reported that the government had chosen to adopt an industry roadmap instead of an outright ban, while domestic processors were asking for tighter controls on foreign buyers at the farm gate. Neither report gave implementation details. Check the current position with the exporter's customs agent and NEPC before contracting for raw nuts.

Quality checks to write into the contract

CheckCashew (raw nuts or kernels)Sesame
MoistureCommonly specified by buyers to limit mouldCommonly specified; affects storage and Salmonella risk
Foreign matter and defectsSpotted, immature or damaged nutsStones, dust, other seeds
Yield or gradeRaw nuts are often traded on kernel out-turn and nut count; kernels by gradePurity and colour (white, mixed, brown)
MicrobiologyFor kernels sold as foodSalmonella, which GB checks at the border
ContaminantsAflatoxin for kernelsPesticide residues, aflatoxin

Write the method of testing and the laboratory into the contract, and say what happens if the result misses the specification: price adjustment, rejection or replacement.

Paperwork on the Nigerian side

The Nigeria Trade Information Portal lists, for agricultural produce, the quarantine service and the Federal Produce Inspection Service, along with pre-shipment inspection agents, a certificate of origin, the NEPC exporter's certificate and Form NXP, before customs clearance on B'Odogwu. See NAQS phytosanitary certificates and pre-shipment inspection.

At the destination

  • Great Britain: the FSA's list of foodstuffs with GB import restrictions places Nigerian sesame seeds under increased checks for Salmonella; the legislation sets the frequency at 50% of consignments, through a designated border control post.
  • United States: sesame has been a major allergen since 1 January 2023, so any retail product must declare it.

Storage and transit

Cashew and sesame are living seeds that keep taking on and losing moisture. Bags left in a hot warehouse or a container waiting at a terminal can sweat and grow mould, which raises the aflatoxin and microbiological risk the buyer is testing for. Agree how the container will be lined and ventilated, ask for photographs of the stuffing, and set the inspection as close to loading as possible so the certificate reflects the goods that actually sail.

Paying for a bulk lot

The International Trade Administration's trade finance guide ranks the methods by risk: cash in advance is the least risky for the exporter, open account the riskiest, with letters of credit and documentary collections between. For a new Nigerian supplier, a letter of credit that pays against an inspection certificate and lab report gives you most protection. Whichever method you use, pay the exporter's own domiciliary account. Under the CBN FX Manual 2026, as summarised by Pavestones Legal, non-oil export proceeds must be repatriated within 90 days, so the exporter will push for prompt payment. See letters of credit.

Worked example (illustration only)

Example: a buyer in Rotterdam contracts 20 tonnes of hulled sesame at USD 1,500 a tonne, USD 30,000 in total, paying 30% after inspection at the warehouse and 70% against the bill of lading. The first payment is USD 9,000 and the second USD 21,000. If the lab finds Salmonella, the contract lets the buyer reject before the 70% is due.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account holds USD, EUR, GBP and NGN, so you can pay in the contract currency and cover naira costs such as inspection or haulage; Swap shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Has Nigeria banned raw cashew exports?

In January 2026 the Guardian reported a ban on unprocessed cashew exports; in September 2026 MSME Africa reported the government had adopted an industry roadmap instead of an outright ban. Confirm the current rule before contracting.

Why is Nigerian sesame checked at the UK border?

Nigerian sesame seeds are on the GB list of foods under increased checks for Salmonella, with checks on 50% of consignments at a designated border control post.

How should I pay a new Nigerian sesame supplier?

A letter of credit or staged payment against inspection and lab results protects you best. Pay only the exporter's own domiciliary account.

What documents does a Nigerian cashew exporter need?

The Trade Information Portal lists NEPC registration, Form NXP, inspection by the quarantine and produce inspection services, a certificate of origin and customs clearance.
