Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

BVN in Nigeria: key facts, enrolment figures and rules

The Bank Verification Number in one page: what it is, who runs it, how many Nigerians have one, how to check or update it, and the CBN rules behind it.

The short answer

The Bank Verification Number (BVN) is an 11-digit biometric identity number that links one person to all their accounts across Nigerian banks. It is run by NIBSS for the banking industry under CBN rules, and NIBSS reported 70,421,184 BVNs as of 5 October 2026.

BVN key facts (as of October 2026)

What it is
A unique identity number issued to a bank customer at biometric enrolment and linked to every account that person holds in Nigerian banks
Length
11 digits
Operated by
Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS), on behalf of the banking industry
Regulated by
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)
Launched
2014

BVNs issued
70,421,184 as of 5 October 2026 (NIBSS counter, updated weekly)
Where to enrol in Nigeria
Any bank branch (some banks also enrol at agent or partner locations)
Enrolment from abroad
Non-Resident BVN (NRBVN), launched by the CBN in May 2025
Where to update details
At your bank branch, according to NIBSS

NIBSS describes the BVN as a uniform identity accepted across all Nigerian banks, used to verify customers, protect accounts from unauthorised access and identify customers who have been placed on the industry watch-list.

BVN enrolment over time

NIBSS publishes a running total rather than a full time series, so the table below shows only the figures we could confirm from NIBSS pages on 17 October 2026. The two figures come from different parts of the same NIBSS page: the live counter and an older line of descriptive text that has not been updated.

How enrolment, checking and updating work

Enrolling

  1. Visit a branch of your bank with an acceptable means of identification.
  2. Fill in and submit the BVN enrolment form.
  3. Have your fingerprints and facial image captured. You receive an acknowledgement slip with a transaction ID.
  4. NIBSS states that the BVN is generated within 24 hours and you receive an SMS.

Checking your BVN

The commonly used USSD code is *565*0#, dialled from the phone number registered with your bank. A small network charge may apply. You can also ask your bank, and many bank apps show your BVN in the profile section.

Updating details

NIBSS says updates to customer information are done at bank branches. Changes to a name, date of birth or phone number usually require supporting documents such as a sworn affidavit, a newspaper publication for name changes, or a marriage certificate. Your bank will tell you which documents it needs.

The watch-list in brief

Under the CBN’s BVN watch-list framework, a bank can report a customer whose BVN is linked to confirmed fraud, and the BVN is then flagged across the industry. NIBSS states that banks are prompted at account opening and during credit checks if a customer has been blacklisted by any Nigerian bank. A customer who believes they were wrongly listed should raise it first with the bank that placed them on the list, then escalate to the CBN if needed.

Common questions about BVN use

  • Is a BVN the same as a NIN? No. The NIN is issued by NIMC for national identity; the BVN is a banking-industry identity. See BVN vs NIN.
  • Who can ask for it? Licensed banks and other regulated institutions need it to open and operate accounts. Read is it safe to share your BVN? before giving it to anyone else.
  • Can someone take money with only my BVN? A BVN on its own does not authorise a debit, but it can be used in social engineering. Never share it alongside one-time codes, PINs or passwords.
  • I live abroad. The NRBVN lets you enrol remotely. See NRBVN explained.

How we put this together

Figures and process steps are from NIBSS’s BVN and NRBVN pages, read on 17 October 2026. Rule dates are from the CBN circulars index on the same date; the CBN’s PDF server did not allow automated download, so the summaries of what each circular covers are based on their titles and NIBSS’s own description of BVN operations. The NRBVN launch date is from Channels TV reporting of May 2025. The USSD code is the one in common use across banks; NIBSS does not publish it on the BVN page we reviewed.

Questions people ask

How many digits is a BVN?

Eleven.

How do I check my BVN?

Dial *565*0# from the phone number linked to your bank account, check your bank app profile, or ask your bank.

How many Nigerians have a BVN?

NIBSS reported 70,421,184 BVNs as of 5 October 2026.

Can I change my BVN details online?

NIBSS says updates are done at bank branches. Some banks let you start a request in the app, but you will usually need documents.
