Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Can I buy land in Lagos while living in Spain?

Yes, you can buy Lagos land from Spain. What the title documents mean, who checks them for you, how to appoint an agent and how to pay.

The short answer

Yes. Nothing in the Land Use Act stops a Nigerian living in Spain from buying land in Lagos, but the purchase is only safe if a Lagos lawyer searches the title at the Lands Bureau before you pay and the deed then gets the Governor's consent. From Spain you act through that lawyer and, where needed, a power of attorney signed before a Spanish notary.

Distance changes the risk, not the law. A buyer in Madrid or Málaga holds land in Lagos on the same terms as a buyer in Surulere. The difference is that you cannot walk the plot, meet the seller's family or sit in the Lands Bureau yourself, so everything depends on the people who do it for you and on the paper trail they produce. This guide sets out the order of steps and the documents that decide whether you own what you paid for.

How ownership works in Lagos

Under section 1 of the Land Use Act, land in each state is vested in the Governor, who holds it in trust. What you buy is a right of occupancy, usually evidenced by a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), or the interest of someone who already holds one. Section 22 says the holder of a statutory right of occupancy may not transfer it "without the consent of the Governor first had and obtained", and section 26 makes transactions contrary to the Act void. In practice that means three documents matter:

Certificate of Occupancy
The state's grant of the right to occupy. A seller who holds one should be able to show the original and give its registration details.
Deed of assignment
The contract that transfers the seller's interest to you. It must be stamped and registered to give you full legal title.
Governor's consent
The approval endorsed on your deed. Without it the transfer is incomplete under section 22.

Other papers you will hear about, such as a survey plan, a receipt or a family "letter of allocation", support the story but do not replace these. Ownkey's June 2026 guide calls an allocation letter the weakest document in the hierarchy: evidence that an allocation process started, not a registrable deed.

The order of steps from Spain

  1. Hire a Lagos lawyer first, before you talk price. Get the lawyer's full name, chambers address and phone number from a source other than the seller or agent. Ownkey suggests checking the name with the NBA branch and the Supreme Court roll, calling the chambers back on an independently found number and paying only into a client account.
  2. Ask the seller for copies. C of O or deed of the seller's own purchase, survey plan, and the seller's ID. Copies by email are fine at this stage.
  3. Commission the searches. Your lawyer searches the title at the Lands Registry and has the survey plan charted to confirm the plot is not under government acquisition. Our guide to verifying a Lagos C of O from Spain covers what each search shows.
  4. Have someone visit. A surveyor or the lawyer's clerk confirms the beacons on the ground match the survey plan and that nobody else is in possession.
  5. Sign the deed. You can sign in Spain before a notary, or appoint an attorney in Lagos to sign for you (see below).
  6. Pay against signed documents. Pay the purchase price into the lawyer's client account or directly to the seller only once the deed is ready to sign.
  7. Perfect the title. The lawyer files for Governor's consent, has the deed stamped and registers it. Our Governor's consent guide explains the fees and the timing.

What the official fees look like

The Lands Bureau's service level agreement, an undated document signed for the Land Use and Allocation Committee, lists fee codes including a search fee of ₦3,750, a consent fee of 1.5% of fair market value, registration fees of 0.5% of fair market value, and a C of O form fee of ₦20,000 (₦30,000 commercial). Fair market value is set in a separate schedule. Your lawyer's professional fee, the surveyor and stamp duty sit on top. Ask for an itemised quote in writing before you send money for any of them.

Acting through someone else

Most buyers in Spain use a power of attorney so that a trusted person in Lagos can sign, collect documents and deal with the registry. Make it specific: name the plot by its survey plan number, list the powers, and set an end date. Signing it in Spain means a notary, the legalisation steps and then stamping in Nigeria; our guide to signing a Nigerian power of attorney in Spain walks through them. The attorney should never be the seller's agent.

Paying safely from Spain

  • Confirm bank details by phone with the lawyer, using a number you found yourself. Changed account details by email are a classic fraud.
  • Pay in stages tied to documents: search report, signed deed, consent filing.
  • Keep every receipt and the deed copies. You will need them for Spanish tax if you later sell, and for Modelo 720 if your property abroad passes the reporting limit.
  • Ask the seller to sign a receipt for every naira paid, naming the plot.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account can be opened from Spain and holds EUR and NGN with local account details for each, so you can keep euros until the lawyer confirms the next stage and then convert with Swap, seeing the rate and fee before you approve. Send pays the lawyer's client account, and a verifiable statement from VerifyDoc.ai gives you a record others can check. Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank.

This is general information, not legal advice. A Lagos lawyer should advise on any specific plot.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian in Spain own land in Lagos?

Yes. Living abroad does not affect a Nigerian's right to hold a right of occupancy. What changes is that a lawyer and often an attorney must act for you on the ground.

Do I have to travel to Lagos to buy land?

Not usually. You can sign the deed before a notary in Spain or appoint an attorney in Lagos. A trip helps, but the searches and filings are done by your lawyer.

Is a C of O enough to prove the seller owns the land?

It is strong evidence, but your lawyer should still search it at the Lands Registry, chart the survey plan and check that nobody else is in possession.

What does Governor's consent cost in Lagos?

The Lands Bureau fee schedule lists consent at 1.5% of fair market value and registration at 0.5%, with fair market value set separately. Ask your lawyer for the current figures for your plot.
