Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

How do I manage building a house in Nigeria from Ghana?

Pay in stages against inspected work, sign a written contract, insist on site reports and keep every receipt. A system for funding a build from Accra.

The short answer

Fund the build in stages tied to finished, inspected work (foundation, damp-proof course, lintel, roofing, finishing), never in large advances. Sign a written contract with the builder that lists stages, prices and materials, get photo and video reports dated and geotagged at each stage, have someone you trust or a professional inspect before each payment, and pay the builder's or suppliers' accounts directly with receipts.

Before the first block: paperwork in Nigeria

Most diaspora build disasters start before construction: unclear land title, no building approval, or a relative managing with no contract. Ownkey's due-diligence guide (12 June 2026) recommends, for Lagos, a Land Registry search of the title before paying beyond a booking fee, a High Court litigation search and a probate check if the title is in a dead person's name. Its permits guide (21 July 2026) separates the planning permit from the authorisation to start building in Lagos and lists stage certification at foundation, damp-proof course (DPC), lintel and roofing, then a certificate of completion and fitness before occupation. Other states have their own agencies; ask the state's planning authority.

If you have not bought the land yet, see buying land in Lagos from Ghana. If someone will sign documents for you, see a power of attorney signed in Ghana.

The contract

Whether you hire a builder for labour only or a contractor for labour and materials, put it in writing. It should cover:

  • Drawings and the approved plan the builder must follow; Ownkey notes drawings carry ARCON (architect) and COREN (engineer) stamps where required.
  • A bill of quantities: materials, quantities and prices.
  • Stages, the price of each stage and what 'complete' means for each.
  • Who buys materials, and how changes in material prices are handled.
  • Retention: a share of each payment held back until the end, to cover defects.
  • What happens if work stops or quality fails, and how either side ends the contract.

Stage payments in practice

StageEvidence before you pay the next stage
Setting out and foundationPhotos and video of trenches, reinforcement and concrete; stage certificate if your state issues one
Blockwork to DPCVideo walk-round, measurements against the plan
Blockwork to lintelPhotos of lintel reinforcement before concrete is poured
RoofingPhotos of trusses and covering; inspection by your engineer or a trusted person
FinishingSnagging list agreed and cleared before the final payment and release of retention

Worked example (illustration only)

Example: a ₦30 million bungalow contract split into five stages of ₦6 million, with 10% retention on each. At each stage you pay ₦5.4 million and hold ₦600,000. After roofing you have paid ₦21.6 million and held ₦2.4 million. When the snagging list is cleared at handover you pay the last ₦5.4 million; the ₦3 million retention is released after an agreed defects period. Figures are illustrative, not current building costs.

Paying from Ghana without losing track

  • Pay the contractor's business account or the supplier's account directly, not a relative's personal account, where you can.
  • Use a narration such as 'Plot 12 roofing stage' so each payment is traceable.
  • Ask for invoices from block, cement and roofing suppliers; match deliveries to photos.
  • Keep a single spreadsheet: stage, amount, date, receipt, photo link.
  • Watch the exchange rate. A build lasts months, and the cedi-naira rate moves. Agree naira prices with the builder and send stage by stage rather than converting everything up front. See the cedi-naira margin explained.

On the Nigerian side, electronic transfers of ₦10,000 or more carry a ₦50 stamp duty borne by the sender from 1 January 2026 (Techeconomy). It is small, but count it if you pay many suppliers. For a deeper look at the money side, see building a house in Nigeria from abroad.

People on the ground

A trusted relative can watch the site, but a fee-paid professional (an engineer or quantity surveyor) inspecting at each stage is cheaper than rebuilding a weak lintel. Agree a site visit schedule, and visit yourself at a key stage if you can; Lagos is a short flight or a long drive from Accra.

Red flags

  • Requests for most of the money up front 'to buy materials before prices rise'.
  • Photos that never show the whole building, or videos sent without dates.
  • A builder who will not sign a contract or give a bill of quantities.
  • Pressure to pay a relative's personal account for materials you never see invoiced.
  • Work moving faster than your payments allow, which usually means corners are being cut.

If any of these happen, pause the next payment and get an independent inspection before you continue. A short delay costs less than a structural fault.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account opened from Ghana holds naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, so you can keep the build budget in naira and send stage payments to suppliers' accounts; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Your Personal Assistant can keep the stage schedule and remind you before each payment; nothing moves without your approval.

Questions people ask

How do I pay a builder in Nigeria from Ghana safely?

Pay in stages against finished, inspected work, directly to the builder's or suppliers' accounts, with a written contract and receipts.

What are the stages of building a house in Nigeria?

A common split is foundation, blockwork to damp-proof course, blockwork to lintel, roofing and finishing. Lagos certifies foundation, DPC, lintel and roofing stages, per Ownkey.

Should I send all the building money at once?

No. Send stage by stage. It limits loss if work stops and spreads exchange-rate risk.

Do I need building approval before I start?

Yes. In Lagos a planning permit and an authorisation to commence are separate steps, per Ownkey; other states have their own rules.
