Ten years, one trunk

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

Setting up a monthly allowance for parents in Nigeria from Ghana

A fixed naira amount on a fixed date, sent to the parent's own account, beats ad hoc cash. How to time it, keep costs steady and handle the exchange rate.

The short answer

Agree a fixed naira amount with your parents, send it on a set date a day or two after your Ghana payday into an account in their own name, and use the same provider each month so you know the fee and can compare the cedi-naira rate. A naira amount keeps their budget steady; the cedi cost to you moves with the exchange rate, so build a small buffer into your own budget.

Decide the amount in naira

Parents budget in naira: food, drugs, electricity, transport. If you send a fixed cedi amount, what arrives changes every month with the exchange rate. Agree a naira figure that covers their regular costs, and treat one-off needs (hospital, repairs, ceremonies) separately so the allowance stays predictable.

A simple budget to agree

Item (example)Monthly naira
Food and market₦120,000
Electricity tokens and cooking gas₦40,000
Drugs and clinic visits₦30,000
Transport and phone₦25,000
Buffer₦15,000
Total₦230,000

These are example figures for a conversation with your parents, not prices. Their real costs depend on the city and their health.

Time it around your payday

Send a day or two after your salary lands in Ghana, not on payday itself, so a late salary does not leave you short. Tell your parents the date it will usually arrive and stick to it. If a public holiday falls in either country, send a day earlier.

Money paid into a Nigerian bank account moves on NIBSS Instant Payment, which NIBSS describes as real-time, with a name enquiry so the account name shows before you send. The time it takes overall depends mostly on your provider's Ghana-to-Nigeria leg. Check the delivery time it shows, and if a transfer is late, see delayed transfers from Ghana.

Keep the cost predictable

  • Use one provider for a few months, note the fee and the naira amount you get for your cedis, and compare at least once a quarter. See the cedi-naira margin explained.
  • Send one transfer a month rather than several small ones, so you pay one fee. On the Nigerian side, transfers of ₦10,000 or more carry a ₦50 stamp duty deducted from the sender from 1 January 2026 (Techeconomy).
  • If you are paid partly in dollars, compare converting dollars to naira with converting cedis; the better route changes.

Worked example (illustration only)

Example: the allowance is ₦230,000. In month one your provider gives ₦100 per cedi with a GH₵20 fee, so it costs you GH₵2,300 + GH₵20 = GH₵2,320. In month two the rate is ₦95, so it costs about GH₵2,421 + GH₵20 = GH₵2,441, GH₵121 more for the same naira. A buffer of about 5% in your own budget absorbs most monthly moves. Rates are invented for the arithmetic.

Send to their account, not cash

Pay into an account in your parent's own name. Cash pickup is slower for older parents and, under the CBN's 2026 foreign exchange manual as reported by TheCable on 3 June 2026, cash withdrawal of inbound money-transfer funds is capped at the naira equivalent of US$200. If your parent does not have a bank account, help them open one or use a sibling's account with clear agreement; see the bank details a sender needs.

Paying bills directly instead

Some families split the allowance: part as cash in the parent's account for daily spending, and part paid straight to the electricity meter, a pharmacy or a landlord. Paying a bill directly means the money is used for what it was meant for and gives you a receipt. It also suits parents who find app banking difficult. For how this works across bills, see paying bills in Nigeria for family from abroad.

Review the amount every six months with your parents. Prices for food, drugs and transport change, and a figure set in January may not cover July.

Sharing it with siblings

If brothers and sisters in Ghana, Nigeria or elsewhere share the allowance, agree each person's share and date in writing, even in a family WhatsApp message. One person sending the full amount and being repaid is simpler for parents than three transfers arriving on different days.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account opened from Ghana holds naira with dollars, pounds and euros. You can send naira to your parents' account each month; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Your Personal Assistant can prepare the monthly transfer and remind you on the day; nothing moves until you approve it. A naira Savings Box can hold a reserve for their one-off costs.

Questions people ask

How do I send a monthly allowance to my parents in Nigeria from Ghana?

Agree a naira amount, send it to their own account on a fixed date after your payday, and use one provider so the fee and rate are easy to compare.

Should I send a fixed cedi or naira amount?

A fixed naira amount keeps your parents' budget steady. Your cedi cost will move with the exchange rate.

Is there a charge in Nigeria on money I send my parents?

From 1 January 2026, a ₦50 stamp duty applies to electronic transfers of ₦10,000 or more, deducted from the sender, per Techeconomy.

Can my parents collect the allowance in cash?

Cash withdrawal of inbound transfer funds is capped at the naira equivalent of US$200 under the CBN's 2026 FX manual, per TheCable, so a bank account is better.
