Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How can I pay a hospital bill in Nigeria from Ghana fast?

In an emergency, pay the hospital's own account by instant transfer, confirm the name first and get a receipt to the family. Steps, costs and traps.

The short answer

The fastest safe route is a naira transfer from Ghana straight into the hospital's own bank account, which reaches a Nigerian account in real time once it is paid out over NIBSS Instant Payment. Get the account details from the hospital's billing office, check the account name before sending, add the patient's name and hospital number in the narration, and ask the hospital to give your family an official receipt.

The first ten minutes

When a relative is admitted and the hospital asks for a deposit, speed matters, but so does sending to the right place. Ask whoever is with the patient to go to the billing or accounts office and get:

  1. The amount needed now and what it covers (deposit, surgery, drugs, admission).
  2. The hospital's bank, account number and account name, ideally on a printed invoice or bill.
  3. The patient's hospital number or file number for the narration.
  4. A name and phone number at the billing office.

Pay the hospital, not a doctor, nurse or 'agent' who offers to help. If the account name is a person, ask the billing office to confirm in writing that it is the hospital's collection account.

How fast the money can arrive

Once money is paid into a Nigerian bank account it moves over NIBSS Instant Payment (NIP), which NIBSS describes as a real-time transfer with funds available before settlement. NIP includes a name enquiry, so your provider can show the account name before you send. The slow part is usually the cross-border leg from Ghana, so choose a provider that shows a delivery time of minutes for Nigerian bank accounts and check it before you pay.

Why not cash?

The CBN's 2026 foreign exchange manual, as reported by TheCable on 3 June 2026, caps cash withdrawal of inbound money-transfer funds at the naira equivalent of US$200. A large bill paid through cash pickup may not be fully collectable, and cash leaves no clean record. See cash pickup from Ghana for when it still makes sense.

What it costs

  • Your provider's transfer fee and its margin on the cedi-naira rate. In a hurry, check the naira amount the hospital will receive, not just the fee. See the cedi-naira margin explained.
  • Nigerian stamp duty of ₦50 on electronic transfers of ₦10,000 or more, deducted from the sender from 1 January 2026 (Techeconomy).
  • Any charge your own bank in Ghana adds for funding the transfer.

Example (illustration only): the hospital asks for a ₦600,000 deposit. A provider quoting ₦99 per cedi with a GH₵25 fee needs about GH₵6,061 + GH₵25 = GH₵6,086 from you. A provider quoting ₦95 with no fee needs about GH₵6,316. In an emergency the faster provider may still be worth it; just know the difference. Rates here are invented.

Receipts and insurance

Ask the billing office to issue an official receipt to your family member as soon as the payment shows, and to send a copy to you by email or WhatsApp. Keep the itemised bill too. If the patient is enrolled with an NHIA scheme or a state health insurance scheme, ask the hospital and the HMO which items are covered before paying for them. The NHIA's 2024 complaints report, covered by ICIR on 30 June 2025, recorded sanctions on facilities for charging out-of-pocket for covered services and for missing payment narrations.

If something goes wrong

  • Money left your account but the hospital has not seen it: send the confirmation and ask your provider for a trace. See delayed transfers.
  • Sent to the wrong account: report it to your provider at once. See wrong-account transfers.
  • Hospital refuses to release the patient until a balance is paid: ask for the itemised bill and pay against it, getting a receipt each time.
  • Failed transfer debited but not reversed: under the CBN rules reported by ThisDay in 2018, banks were to be fined for failed instant transfers not reversed within 24 hours of a complaint; complain to the bank in writing and keep the reference.

Prepare before the next emergency

Families with an older parent or a relative with a chronic illness can save hours by setting things up in a calm week:

  • Open and verify an account with a provider that pays Nigerian bank accounts, and send a small test transfer.
  • Save the account details of the hospital your relative usually uses, confirmed with its billing office.
  • Agree who in the family goes to the hospital and who pays, and share phone numbers.
  • Keep a small naira reserve that can be sent at once, rather than converting under pressure.

Where Pryme fits

If you hold naira or other currencies in a Pryme Personal Account, you can send naira to the hospital's account after checking the name; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Verifiable receipts through VerifyDoc.ai let the family or an insurer check the payment record is genuine.

Questions people ask

What is the fastest way to pay a Nigerian hospital from Ghana?

A transfer into the hospital's own naira account through a provider that delivers to Nigerian bank accounts in minutes. Within Nigeria the payment moves on NIBSS Instant Payment in real time.

Can my family collect cash to pay the hospital?

Only up to a point. The CBN's 2026 FX manual caps cash withdrawal of inbound transfer funds at the naira equivalent of US$200, per TheCable.

Should I pay a doctor's personal account?

No. Pay the hospital's account and get written confirmation if the account name is not the hospital's.

How do I prove I paid a hospital bill from abroad?

Keep your transfer confirmation and ask the hospital to issue an official receipt to your family and send you a copy.
