Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

BMO international wire to Nigeria: what you need

BMO says international wires are done in branch. The details to bring, how BMO Global Money Transfer and Western Union compare, and what it costs.

The short answer

BMO's send-money page, checked in October 2026, says international wires are sent from a BMO branch and asks for the recipient's name, address and bank account number. For Nigeria, also bring the Nigerian bank's name and address, its SWIFT/BIC code and the currency. Fees are in BMO's "Agreements, Bank Plans and Fees for Everyday Banking" document, not on the page.

BMO's three ways to send abroad

BMO's send-money page describes three international options. Only one of them, the wire, can be relied on for Nigeria without checking the app:

BMO optionWhat the page saysNigeria
International wireDone at a BMO branch; needs recipient's name, address and account numberWorks with the Nigerian bank's SWIFT details
BMO Global Money TransferAccount to account, over 70 destinations; in the BMO app under Pay and Transfer; notification when receivedDestination list not on the page; check the app
Western UnionMore than 200 destinations; cash pickup in as little as 30 minutes; from Online Banking under Pay & TransferPays in naira under CBN rules

What to bring to the branch

  • Recipient's full name, exactly as the Nigerian account holds it.
  • Recipient's address. BMO's page lists this alongside name and account number.
  • Account number. Nigerian accounts use a 10-digit NUBAN. BMO's page refers to international account numbers as IBANs; Nigeria does not use IBANs, so tell the branch it is a NUBAN.
  • Bank name, address and SWIFT/BIC from the recipient's bank. The BMO page does not mention SWIFT codes, but a wire to Nigeria cannot be routed without one. Examples from public directories: ABNGNGLA for Access Bank (its own blog, 2023), GTBINGLAXXX for GTBank (Wise directory).
  • Currency. US dollars to a domiciliary account, or ask whether naira is possible.
  • Intermediary bank, if the Nigerian bank's instructions name one.
  • Purpose and supporting papers for a large payment, such as a school invoice.
  • Your ID and BMO card.

Ask the recipient for their bank's printed or emailed incoming-transfer instructions rather than copying a code from a website. Our guide to which SWIFT code to use explains why.

Choosing between the three

Each BMO option suits a different payment, and the choice turns on what the recipient needs:

  • A wire suits a tuition payment, a property deposit or dollars to a domiciliary account, where a SWIFT trail and the recipient bank's own instructions matter more than speed. It needs a branch visit, so plan around opening hours.
  • Global Money Transfer, if the app lists Nigeria, suits regular account-to-account payments, and BMO says you are notified when the recipient receives the money.
  • Western Union suits a recipient who needs cash quickly. BMO's page says pickup can be in as little as 30 minutes. The recipient will need ID in the name you entered, and the money arrives in naira.

Whichever you choose, the costs to compare are the same: the fee, the exchange rate against mid-market, and anything deducted before the money lands. For an app route, also check the limits shown before you approve.

What a BMO wire costs

BMO's page gives no fee figures; it points to its "Agreements Bank Plans and Fees for Everyday Banking" PDF. Ask the branch for three numbers before you sign: BMO's wire fee, the exchange rate if you are converting, and whether intermediary charges will be deducted from the amount or can be paid by you.

After the wire

  1. Keep the wire confirmation and ask for the UETR, the 36-character Swift reference that lets any bank in the chain locate the payment.
  2. Send the recipient the amount, date and reference.
  3. If nothing arrives after a few business days, the recipient asks their bank to search using the UETR; you ask BMO to trace it from its side.

Holding US dollars at BMO first

If the recipient wants dollars, you can avoid converting on the day of the wire by holding US dollars first and wiring from that balance, if your account set-up allows it. Ask the branch which account the wire will be drawn from, and in which currency, before you sign the instruction. BMO's page also mentions BMO U.S. Transfer, which moves money between BMO accounts in Canada and the United States with a US$25,000 per-transfer figure, but that service does not reach Nigeria.

Reporting

FINTRAC requires Canadian banks to report international electronic funds transfers of CA$10,000 or more, and two or more totalling that within 24 hours for the same person, within five business days. BMO files this; it is routine. See FINTRAC reporting and intermediary bank fees.

Where Pryme fits

A wire suits occasional large payments. For regular transfers, a Pryme account opened from Canada holds naira and US dollars side by side and pays Nigerian accounts with Send. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. See the multicurrency account.

Questions people ask

Can I send an international wire from the BMO app?

BMO's send-money page says international wires are done at a branch. BMO Global Money Transfer is the app-based option, for listed destinations.

Does BMO Global Money Transfer cover Nigeria?

The page says over 70 destinations but does not list them. Check in the BMO app under Pay and Transfer.

What does BMO need for a wire to Nigeria?

The recipient's name, address and account number per BMO's page, plus the Nigerian bank's name, address and SWIFT/BIC code, and the currency.

How much is a BMO international wire?

The page does not state it; fees are in BMO's Agreements, Bank Plans and Fees for Everyday Banking document. Ask the branch before you send.
