Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AED to naira rate today: how UAE providers set theirs

Why the dirham to naira rate differs between UAE exchange houses and apps, how it relates to the official NFEM rate, and where to see today's figure.

The short answer

There is no single AED to naira rate: each UAE provider sets its own, usually by working through the US dollar and adding a margin. Nigeria's official benchmark is the CBN's NFEM rate, which the CBN publishes only as naira per US dollar. To see today's figure, compare the naira amount each provider shows for the same dirham sum at the moment you send.

Search for "AED to naira today" and you will see several different numbers, and none of them is the one your family will receive. That is not a trick; it is how the market is built. This page explains where provider rates come from, what to compare, and where the live number is shown. We do not print a daily rate here, because any figure would be out of date within hours.

Three rates people mean by "the rate"

Official NFEM rate
The Central Bank of Nigeria publishes the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market rate as naira per US dollar. Its exchange rates page describes the NFEM rate as a volume-weighted average and the official rate for the day. The page does not list the dirham.
Mid-market rate
The midpoint between buying and selling prices in the wholesale market. For AED to naira it is a cross rate: the dirham against the dollar, then the dollar against the naira. Currency sites show it, but you cannot usually transact at it.
Provider rate
The rate a UAE exchange house, bank or app offers you. It is the mid-market rate less that provider's margin, and it is the only rate that decides what arrives.

How UAE providers set theirs

Because the CBN quotes the naira only against the dollar, providers sending dirhams to Nigeria generally price through the dollar. They also face Nigerian rules on the payout side: a CBN circular effective 1 May 2026 requires licensed transfer operators to pay recipients in naira only, settle through naira accounts at authorised dealer banks, and, according to Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie's summary, be guided by Bloomberg's BMATCH real-time prices. Techeconomy's 28 March 2026 report on the same circular also names Bloomberg BMatch as the pricing reference.

What each provider then does with that is its own business decision, and their pages describe it differently:

  • LuLu Money (UAE FAQ, undated): rates vary by service type and "update dynamically every few minutes"; remittance rates differ from its buy and sell rates for cash.
  • Remitly (UAE to Nigeria page, read October 2026): shows a promotional rate for new customers on the first AED 4,000 sent, one per customer, and says any rates shown are subject to change.
  • Taptap Send (Nigeria page, undated): describes its rate as competitive, says it charges no transfer fee to Nigeria, and shows the recipient amount in the app.

A zero fee and a lower margin are different things. A provider can charge nothing on the fee line and still give fewer naira per dirham than another that charges a fee. We do not rank providers: the only fair comparison is the naira total for the same amount at the same time.

Working out the margin yourself

Example only, using round illustrative numbers: suppose the mid-market cross rate at the moment you check would turn AED 1,000 into ₦400,000, and a provider's quote shows the recipient getting ₦392,000 with a fee of AED 10. The rate gap is ₦8,000, which is 2% of the mid-market value. Add the AED 10 fee, worth about ₦4,000 at the same mid-market rate, and the total cost is about ₦12,000, or 3% of what the money was worth. The arithmetic: 400,000 minus 392,000 is 8,000; 8,000 divided by 400,000 is 2%; 8,000 plus 4,000 is 12,000; 12,000 divided by 400,000 is 3%.

Run the same sum for each provider you are considering. Our guide to the real cost of an AED to naira transfer goes through it in more detail.

Why the number moves while you watch

The NFEM rate is a weighted average of a whole day's trading, so it is a summary after the event, not a price you can deal at. Provider quotes, by contrast, follow the market during the day; LuLu says its own rates change every few minutes. Two practical points follow. First, compare providers within the same few minutes, or the comparison is meaningless. Second, note when the rate is fixed: on most apps it is the rate shown when you confirm and pay, but a wire or a cash payment made later can be priced at a different moment. If you are moving a large sum, splitting it does not avoid the margin, but it does spread the timing risk across several rates.

Where to see today's figure

  1. Open the CBN exchange rates page for the official dollar NFEM rate, as a reference only.
  2. Check a mid-market cross rate on a currency data site at the same time.
  3. Enter the same dirham amount in each provider's calculator and note the naira received and the fee.
  4. Send promptly: quotes can change within minutes, and some providers lock the rate only once you pay.

If the naira received ends up lower than the quote, see why the naira received can be less than quoted.

Where Pryme fits

If you receive dirham-linked income and want to choose when to convert, holding dollars in a Pryme multicurrency account and using Swap lets you convert when you decide. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

What is the AED to naira rate today?

It depends on the provider. Each sets its own rate, usually through the dollar. Compare the naira amount each one shows for the same dirham sum at the time you send.

Does the CBN publish an AED to naira rate?

The CBN exchange rates page we read lists only naira per US dollar under the NFEM. The dirham is not listed.

Why is the Google rate higher than my exchange house rate?

Search results usually show a mid-market rate, which has no margin. Providers add a margin, and some also charge a fee.

Is a zero-fee transfer always cheaper?

No. The margin in the rate can cost more than a fee elsewhere. Compare the final naira received.
