Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to send money to Nigeria with Al Ansari Exchange

What Al Ansari Exchange's published terms say about sending from the UAE, the ID it asks for, where fees show, and why to confirm Nigeria first.

The short answer

Al Ansari Exchange lets you send from a branch, its online portal, app or kiosks, with an original valid ID such as an Emirates ID or a passport with a valid UAE visa, and its terms say fees and VAT are shown when you start a transaction. However, Nigeria did not appear in the corridor table of its February 2026 remittance key fact statement, so confirm at a branch or in the app that Nigeria, and the payout you want, is offered before you plan around it.

What Al Ansari's own documents say

We read Al Ansari Exchange's remittance key fact statement (version "Feb-26 v.rm.1.01") and its digital channels terms in October 2026. The key points:

  • Channels: branches, online portal, app and self-service kiosks.
  • ID: "Original valid ID such as UAE National ID or Passport with a valid UAE visa must be provided."
  • Digital registration: you must be over 18, a UAE resident with a valid Emirates ID issued by ICP, and show the original at a branch to activate.
  • Fees: the terms say fees and charges, with VAT, are displayed when you start a transaction. The fact statement lists fees by corridor, excluding 5% VAT, and a minimum cash pay-out charge of AED 15.00 plus VAT for "all major corridors".
  • Claims: a remittance is treated as delivered unless a claim is made within 3 months for cash pay-out or 6 months for a bank transfer.
  • Complaints: within 14 days of the transaction, through 600 54 6000 or comments@alansari.ae.

Steps at a branch

  1. Ask first whether Nigeria is available, by bank transfer, cash pickup or both, and through which partner network.
  2. Bring your original Emirates ID, or passport with a valid UAE visa.
  3. Bring the recipient's full name exactly as their Nigerian bank holds it, the bank name and 10-digit account number, or for cash pickup their name as on their ID.
  4. Ask for the total charge including VAT and the naira amount the recipient will get before you pay.
  5. Keep the receipt; it carries the reference you need to track, claim or cancel.

Steps in the app

  1. Register and activate by showing your Emirates ID at a branch.
  2. Add the recipient and check the destination list for Nigeria.
  3. Fund from your own account; the terms say "Please use your own account for funding the transactions" and processing starts once funds reach Al Ansari.
  4. Review the fee, VAT and rate on screen before you confirm. If you chose "Pay at Branch", pay within the time shown.

Working out the cost

The fact statement does not set out an exchange rate margin. So the rate is where most of the hidden cost can sit. Ask the counter for the naira payout figure, check a mid-market rate on your phone at the same time and compare; working out the real cost of an AED to naira transfer shows the sums.

Example with invented figures: you send AED 1,500, the fee is AED 15 plus 5% VAT (AED 0.75), and the quoted rate is ₦390 against a mid-market ₦400. The recipient gets 1,500 x 390 = ₦585,000. At mid-market the same dirhams buy ₦600,000, a gap of ₦15,000, about AED 37.50. Total cost: 37.50 + 15.75 = AED 53.25.

Cancelling or refunding

The fact statement says refunds go back through the original payment method, at the lower of the market buying rate or the transaction rate, excluding sending charges, beneficiary bank deductions and cancellation fees, and only after the correspondent confirms the money was not paid out. For digital transfers, a written request at a branch is needed. See refunds on cancelled UAE to Nigeria transfers; for app limits see the Al Ansari app daily limit.

Where Pryme fits

A recipient with a Pryme account can receive into naira, or into USD, GBP or EUR held with local details, and convert with Swap when they choose; the app shows the rate and the fee before they approve. Sending from Pryme itself uses Send.

Questions people ask

Can I send money to Nigeria with Al Ansari Exchange?

Its February 2026 fact statement did not list Nigeria in its corridor table, so ask at a branch or check the app's destination list before you rely on it.

What ID does Al Ansari ask for?

An original valid ID such as an Emirates ID or a passport with a valid UAE visa, according to its fact statement. The app needs a valid Emirates ID.

How much does Al Ansari charge?

Fees depend on corridor, currency and amount, exclude 5% VAT, and are shown when you start a transaction. No Nigeria fee was published in what we read.

How long do I have to complain about a transfer?

The fact statement says within 14 days of the transaction, via 600 54 6000 or comments@alansari.ae.
