Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

WIC eligibility for Nigerian immigrant mothers

Who qualifies for WIC, how income is tested, what the USDA page says about status, and how the 2026 public charge rule fits in.

The short answer

WIC serves pregnant women, women up to six months after a pregnancy ends, breastfeeding women up to the baby's first birthday, infants and children up to their fifth birthday, who apply through a local WIC agency, meet the income limit (households on Medicaid, SNAP or TANF may already qualify) and have a free health check. USDA's eligibility page, updated 16 September 2026, sets no citizenship or immigration requirement, though families applying for green cards should ask a lawyer how the 2026 public charge rule treats it.

WIC, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, is one of the programmes Nigerian mothers in the US hear about first, usually at an antenatal appointment. It pays for specific healthy foods, offers nutrition advice and breastfeeding support, and refers families to other care. This guide sets out who qualifies, what the application involves and the immigration question that worries many families.

Who WIC is for

USDA's eligibility page lists five groups:

  • Women who are pregnant.
  • Postpartum women, up to six months after the end of a pregnancy.
  • Breastfeeding women, up to the infant's first birthday.
  • Infants.
  • Children up to their fifth birthday.

A father, grandmother or other guardian can usually apply for an infant or child in their care; the mother herself qualifies only in the windows above.

The three tests

1. Where you live

You apply through a WIC agency in your area, and USDA points families to its WIC Eligibility Tool to find the local office. Each state runs its own programme under federal rules, so forms and appointment styles differ.

2. Income

Households already enrolled in Medicaid, SNAP or TANF may already be income eligible. Everyone else is compared with WIC's income limits by household size. USDA counts income before taxes and deductions, and lists the sources that count and those excluded. The limits are updated each year, so check the current chart with your local agency rather than a figure from an old post.

3. A health check

Before enrolment, every applicant has a free, simple health check, a nutrition assessment by WIC staff. It is part of the process, not a test you can fail by being healthy; ask the agency how it decides.

What about immigration status?

USDA's WIC eligibility page, updated 16 September 2026, lists the groups, residence in the agency's area, income and the health check. It makes no statement about citizenship or immigration status. That is very different from SNAP, where USDA's 2025 guidance limits eligibility to permanent residents (mostly after a five-year wait) and a few other groups.

The separate question is immigration consequences. Under the DHS public charge rule effective 18 September 2026, officers deciding green card cases may consider any means-tested public benefit an applicant receives. WIC is means-tested, but the sources we read do not say how USCIS will treat it, or benefits used by children. Read our guide to the 2026 public charge rule, and if you have a green card application pending or planned, ask an immigration lawyer before you decide. Refugees and asylees are exempt from public charge.

What WIC gives you

  • Benefits to buy specific foods from the state's approved list at approved shops.
  • Nutrition education and help planning meals for pregnancy and young children.
  • Breastfeeding support, which some agencies extend with peer counsellors.
  • Referrals to health care, immunisations and other services.

The food list is set by each state, so a familiar brand may not be approved. Ask the agency for its shopping guide.

Steps to apply

  1. Find your local WIC agency through the USDA eligibility tool or your state health department.
  2. Call or book online, and ask what documents to bring. Agencies commonly ask for proof of identity, address and income; if you are on Medicaid, SNAP or TANF, bring proof of that.
  3. Attend the appointment with the person who is applying (and the baby or child, if the benefit is for them).
  4. Complete the health check.
  5. If approved, ask how benefits are loaded and when they renew.

Situations Nigerian families often ask about

  • You are on a dependent visa and your spouse works. The household's income is what is tested, so a good salary may put you over the limit. If you are on Medicaid for the pregnancy, you may already count as income eligible.
  • Your US-born baby is a citizen but you are not. The infant can be enrolled in their own right; the questions above about your own eligibility and any immigration effect still apply to you.
  • Your mother has come from Nigeria to help after the birth. She is not in a WIC category unless she is herself pregnant or postpartum. Ask the agency whether she counts in your household for the income test while she stays.
  • You move states. WIC is run locally, so you contact the agency in the new area. Ask your current agency how to transfer before you go.

Each of these depends on the local agency's reading of the federal rules, so write down the name of the person you spoke to and what they said.

How WIC fits with other help

WIC sits alongside school meals and children's health cover. USDA's school meals page says WIC recipients may also be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals, which matters once older siblings start school; see school meals and CHIP for children of Nigerian immigrants. For the cost of care around a birth, see budgeting for childcare as a Nigerian family.

Where Pryme fits

A new baby often means relatives at home asking how to help, or you sending money for a naming ceremony. Send shows the rate and the fee before you approve, and the Personal Assistant can set reminders for the regular amounts you send.

Questions people ask

Can I get WIC without a green card?

USDA's WIC eligibility page sets no citizenship or immigration requirement. Eligibility depends on the WIC category, residence in the agency's area, income and a health check. Ask a lawyer about any effect on an immigration application.

Does WIC count against public charge?

WIC is means-tested, and the 2026 rule lets officers consider any means-tested benefit. The sources we read do not say how USCIS will treat WIC specifically, so get advice if you have an application planned.

How long can I stay on WIC after giving birth?

Postpartum women qualify up to six months after the pregnancy ends; breastfeeding women up to the baby's first birthday. Children can stay on until their fifth birthday.

What is the income limit for WIC?

It depends on household size and is updated each year. Households on Medicaid, SNAP or TANF may already qualify. Check the current chart with your local agency.
