Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Which Nigerian banks issue credit cards?

Nigerian banks whose own pages show credit cards as at October 2026, the card types and terms they publish, and how to check a bank we could not confirm.

The short answer

As at October 2026, Access Bank and Stanbic IBTC Bank both show credit cards on their own Nigerian websites. Access Bank publishes a naira Visa Classic and a US dollar Visa Platinum with fees, plus Visa Infinite and American Express cards; Stanbic IBTC lists credit cards with a comparison page. Other banks may issue cards too; we could not read their pages, so check with them directly.

Search results for Nigerian credit cards are full of old lists, some naming cards that have since been withdrawn or renamed. This page lists only what we could see on banks' own websites in October 2026, says plainly where we could not confirm, and explains how to check any other bank yourself.

Banks confirmed on their own pages (Oct 2026)

BankCards shownTerms published on the page
Access BankVisa Classic (naira), Visa Platinum (US dollar), Visa Infinite; American Express Platinum and Gold through Access Private BankVisa Classic: issuance ₦1,000 + ₦75 VAT; quarterly maintenance ₦53.75; late fee ₦2,000; ATM ₦40,000 and POS/web ₦200,000 daily. Visa Platinum USD: issuance $3, annual fee $10, interest 3.5% (period not stated), late fee $35, 5% international ATM fee
Stanbic IBTC BankCredit cards listed under personal banking, with a compare toolCard terms were not shown in the page text we could read; ask the bank

Access Bank's application form also shows how its cards are secured: you choose cash collateral, a short-term investment or salary backing. The page also links a FAQ on self-funded credit cards. Stanbic IBTC's page describes its credit cards as offering exclusive privileges and invites you to compare up to three cards.

Banks we could not confirm

We tried to read the credit card pages of several other large banks, including Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, UBA and FCMB, in October 2026, but the pages did not load in a readable form for us. That does not mean they do not issue credit cards. It means we cannot state their current cards or terms here. If you bank with one of them, check its website, app or a branch, and ask the questions in the list below.

Naira cards and foreign currency cards

Nigerian banks issue two broad kinds of credit card:

  • Naira credit cards, billed and repaid in naira, mainly for local spending. Access Bank's Visa Classic is an example; its published daily limits are for ATM, POS and web use.
  • Dollar or other foreign currency cards, billed in that currency, often aimed at travel and international spending, and usually repaid from a domiciliary account. Access Bank's Visa Platinum USD is an example, with published international ATM and spending limits.

Foreign currency cards usually have stricter requirements and higher fees. If you will repay in naira, exchange rates affect what you pay.

Secured cards are the norm

A useful way to read the Nigerian market is that most bank credit cards are secured in some way. Access Bank's own application form makes this clear: the applicant chooses cash collateral, a short-term investment or salary backing, and signs an undated instruction or a salary domiciliation letter to match. A secured card is still a credit card: you spend on credit, receive a statement and pay interest on what you do not repay. The difference is that the bank can recover from the deposit or salary if you do not pay. For someone building a credit history, a cash-backed card can be a sensible first step, provided you can afford to have the deposit blocked.

How to check any bank's credit card

  1. Find the card on the bank's own website or app, not a third-party list.
  2. Note the card name, currency and network (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Verve).
  3. Ask what security is required: cash, investment, salary or none.
  4. Ask for the interest rate and whether it is monthly or annual.
  5. Ask whether there is an interest-free period on purchases and how long it lasts.
  6. Get the full fee list: issuance, maintenance, annual, late payment, cash withdrawal and foreign transaction fees.
  7. Ask for the daily ATM and spending limits.

Worked example: first-year fixed fees (Access Visa Classic)

Issuance ₦1,000 + VAT ₦75 = ₦1,075. Maintenance ₦53.75 x 4 quarters = ₦215. Fixed fees in year one: ₦1,290, before interest or late fees. Compare this with other banks' fee lists once you have them. Fixed fees are small next to interest: a balance of ₦100,000 left unpaid for a few months will usually cost more in interest than a whole year of maintenance fees, so the interest rate and the interest-free period matter most when you compare cards.

For the application process, see how to get a credit card from a Nigerian bank; for alternatives, overdraft vs loan app.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not issue credit cards. Pryme customers can hold NGN, USD, GBP and EUR in one account with local details for each, and may be offered a Loans on Spaces limit by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank for spending with Spaces merchants, after reading and accepting the terms.
