Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

Sending to Nigeria on an Australian weekend or public holiday

Nigeria's instant payment system runs all week, but providers, banks and agents do not. What moves on a Saturday or holiday and what waits until Monday.

The short answer

Some transfers to Nigeria do move on weekends and holidays: Nigeria's NIP instant payment system is described as running 24/7, and cash pickup and many app payouts keep working. What waits is anything that depends on a bank's business day, in Australia or Nigeria: SWIFT payments, slower bank funding, compliance reviews and, according to Taptap Send, most transfers that land at Nigerian receiving banks on public holidays.

Two calendars and three systems

A transfer from Australia to Nigeria crosses two sets of public holidays and two time zones, and it touches three kinds of system: the way you pay the provider in Australia, the provider's own processing, and the payout network in Nigeria. A transfer moves at the speed of the slowest of these on the day you send. Early on a Saturday in Sydney it is still Friday afternoon or evening in Lagos, which can help or hurt depending on the cut-off involved.

Why some weekend transfers wait

Your money has not reached the provider

If you fund a transfer with a bank payment that does not clear instantly, the provider may hold it until your money lands. Wise's status guide, for example, shows a transfer at "Your money's being processed" while it waits for your bank's payment, and suggests checking with your bank after two working days.

A person needs to look at it

Automated checks run all week, but a transfer flagged for review may wait for a compliance team working business hours. First transfers, larger amounts and new recipients are the most likely to be reviewed.

The Nigerian bank is closed for processing

Even where the network is open, a receiving bank may not credit an incoming international payment on a public holiday. Taptap Send's help centre puts it plainly: receiving banks generally do not process most transfers on public holidays. Several Nigerian holidays, including the Eid holidays, follow the lunar calendar and are confirmed close to the date, so check before you rely on a specific day. Our Nigeria library keeps lists of Nigeria public holidays in 2026 and 2027.

Australian holidays differ by state

Australian public holidays are not all national, so a Monday holiday in one state may be a normal banking day elsewhere. If you pay by bank from an account at a bank closed for the holiday, your payment to the provider may not move until the next business day.

Planning around December and Easter

  • Send before the long weekend, not on it, when school fees, rent or a ceremony fund must arrive by a fixed date.
  • Use a provider you are already verified with, so a review is less likely when compliance teams are thin.
  • Check the delivery estimate on the quote. Taptap Send shows a "Date Available"; other apps show an expected arrival time.
  • Keep the reference handy and share it with the receiver.
  • For cash, confirm the receiver's nearest agent will be open.

If a weekend transfer is already stuck

Do not send the money a second time to "make sure". If both transfers complete, you will be asking for one of them back, which is far slower than waiting. Check the status in the app first: a payment still waiting for your funds, a request for information, or a status showing it has been sent to the Nigerian bank each point to a different fix. Message the provider's support with the reference number, and ask the receiver to check with their bank on the next working day if the provider shows the money as delivered.

If a transfer sent on a weekend still has not arrived by the next business afternoon in Nigeria, follow our steps for a delayed transfer. For normal timings, see how long a transfer from Australia takes.

Where Pryme fits

If you hold US dollars, sterling or euros in a Pryme account, Swap shows the naira rate and the fee before you approve, and Send pays a Nigerian account. Having the money already sitting in the account means a weekend transfer does not depend on an Australian bank payment clearing first.

Questions people ask

Do international transfers go through on weekends?

Some do. Nigeria's NIP system runs all week, and many app and cash pickup payouts continue, but SWIFT payments, slow bank funding and manual reviews usually wait for the next business day.

Will my transfer arrive on a Nigerian public holiday?

It may not. Taptap Send says receiving banks generally do not process most transfers on public holidays, so money can appear the next working day.

Is the exchange rate different on weekends?

Providers set their own weekend pricing. Wise says weekends and holidays are usually not counted in its guaranteed-rate window. Check the rate on your quote before you confirm.

Should I send school fees before a long weekend?

Yes, if they must arrive by a date. Send a few business days early and use a provider you are already verified with.
