Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Life in Port Harcourt

A weekend out in Port Harcourt on a budget

Plan a Port Harcourt weekend of food, films, outings and visits without overspending: the Rivers consumption tax, transport after 10pm and a sample budget.

The short answer

Set one figure for the whole weekend before you leave home, covering food, entry or tickets, transport both ways and a small buffer, then plan the order of the day so you are home before tricycles stop at 10pm. Remember that restaurant and hotel bills in Rivers State carry a 4% state consumption tax on top of menu prices. Cheaper weekends usually come from daytime plans and shared transport, not from cutting the fun.

What Port Harcourt weekends actually cost

A Saturday out in Port Harcourt rarely costs what the main event costs. Lunch in GRA, a film, a walk or a drink by the water, and a visit to friends in Woji all come with transport between them. Evening plans add the cost of getting home after tricycles stop. For many people the extras are half the bill.

Two local factors shape the total. First, Rivers State's Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Consumption Law of 2016 charges 4% of the bill, excluding VAT, on goods and services consumed in hotels, restaurants and event centres, according to a May 2025 legal review on Mondaq. Second, the Rivers State police command said in May 2026 that tricycles are restricted from operating from 10pm. Late nights mean a taxi or ride-hailing fare home.

Step 1: set the weekend figure

Decide one number for Friday evening to Sunday night and write it down. Then split it.

PartShare of weekend budgetNotes
Food and drinks out40%Add 4% state tax plus any VAT or service charge
Activity, tickets or entry25%Cinema, events, outings
Transport25%Both ways, plus late rides home
Buffer10%For the bill that comes in higher than expected

The shares are a starting point. A weekend of visiting family will need more for transport and gifts; a weekend at a single venue less.

Step 2: plan the day around the map

Port Harcourt traffic can turn a cheap plan into an expensive one. Group activities by area so you are not crossing the city three times.

  • GRA and Old GRA: restaurants, lounges and cafes within short distances of each other.
  • Trans-Amadi and Woji: malls, eateries and cinemas, with Woji's residential streets close by for visits.
  • Old Port Harcourt Township: waterside areas and older streets; plan daytime visits.
  • Peter Odili Road and the Eastern Bypass: newer estates and venues.

If friends live along the same corridor, share a car or a taxi. Splitting a ₦6,000 ride three ways is cheaper than three separate keke and taxi combinations.

Step 3: a sample weekend

These are example figures for two people. They are not prices from any venue.

PlanExample amount (₦)
Saturday lunch for two16,000
Rivers consumption tax at 4%640
Afternoon film, two tickets14,000
Keke and taxi, Saturday5,000
Sunday visit to family in Rumuokoro, with a gift10,000
Transport, Sunday4,000
Buffer5,000
Total54,640

An afternoon film rather than a late show means both can take keke home and skip a ₦6,000 late taxi. Small timing changes like this do more than skipping meals.

Cheaper weekends that still feel like a break

  • Go out in the day. Matinees, brunch and daytime events usually cost less and keep you inside keke hours.
  • Eat before you go. Then order drinks and a small plate instead of a full meal at venue prices.
  • Host instead. Friends bringing one dish each costs less than four restaurant bills with tax.
  • Use free spaces. Church and community events, sports with friends and walks in the cooler evening hours cost little.
  • Rotate the big weekend. One larger outing a month and smaller ones the rest of the time.

Weekends with children

Family weekends change the numbers. Children's tickets, snacks and the inevitable extra drink add up, and young children tire early, which is in your favour: a daytime plan that ends by early evening suits them and keeps transport cheap. Choose one paid activity per weekend and fill the rest with free time at home, at church or at relatives' houses. Pack water and snacks for outings; buying them at a venue can cost several times as much.

If grandparents or cousins are joining, agree in advance who pays for what. It avoids the awkward moment at the till and keeps one parent from carrying the whole bill.

Before you borrow for a weekend

Leisure is the easiest place to drift into regular borrowing, because each weekend feels small. If a weekend only works with credit, the national guides should you borrow for leisure and planning a family outing on a budget are worth reading first.

Keep track for a month

For one month, note what each weekend actually cost against the figure you set. Most people find one category, usually transport or drinks, runs over every time. Fix that one line and the rest of the budget tends to hold. If weekends keep coming in under budget, move the difference into savings on Monday rather than letting it drift into the week.

Where Pryme fits

Eateries, cinemas, spas and hotels are Spaces sectors, and Spaces merchants are available in Port Harcourt. If Solid Allianze MFB has offered you a Loans on Spaces limit, you see the full cost and repayment date before accepting, and it can only be spent with Spaces merchants. A Flexible Box on Savings Boxes can hold a monthly leisure fund. For films specifically, see a cinema night in Port Harcourt.

Questions people ask

Why is eating out in Port Harcourt more than the menu price?

Rivers State charges 4% of the bill, excluding VAT, as a consumption tax on restaurants, hotels and event centres. VAT and service charges may be added.

How do I get home in Port Harcourt after 10pm?

The police restrict tricycles from 10pm, so plan a taxi, ride-hailing trip or a lift with friends before you go out.

How much should I budget for a weekend out in Port Harcourt?

Set one figure that covers food, activities, transport both ways and a 10% buffer. The right amount depends on your income and other bills.

What are cheap things to do in Port Harcourt at the weekend?

Daytime films, hosting friends, church and community events, and visits that you can reach by shared transport.
