Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Planning a family outing on a budget: cinema and food

Taking the children to the cinema and a meal adds up fast. A planning method, a worked example and ways to keep a family day out affordable.

The short answer

Set one total for the whole family outing before you leave home, covering tickets, food, snacks and transport, and choose the cheaper session and meal options that keep you within it. Pay from a fund you have saved for outings; if you use credit, keep it inside that total and repay it from income already due.

Why family outings overshoot

A family day out multiplies every cost by the number of people. Two adults and three children at the cinema means five tickets, five drinks and, often, five meals afterwards. Children also ask for extras at the counter, and decisions made on the spot are rarely the cheapest. A plan made at home, with one number for the day, avoids most of the overspend.

Step 1: set one total for the day

Decide the total before choosing the details. It is easier to fit the outing to a number than to find the money after the outing.

CategoryQuestions to ask
TicketsWhich session? Do children's tickets cost less at this venue?
SnacksOne shared combo per two people, or snacks from home where allowed?
MealEat out, takeaway, or eat at home before or after?
TransportOwn car, one ride for everyone, or public transport?
ExtrasArcade games, souvenirs, ice cream. Set a fixed amount, or none.

Step 2: a worked example

These figures are illustrative examples only, not real venue prices or Pryme rates.

The Bello family, two adults and three children, plan a Saturday outing with a ₦45,000 ceiling.

Item (example)First planRevised plan
5 tickets, Saturday evening₦30,000
5 tickets, Saturday morning session₦20,000
Snacks and drinks₦15,000₦7,000 (two shared combos)
Meal at a restaurant₦35,000
Takeaway eaten at home₦12,000
Transport₦8,000₦6,000
Total₦88,000₦45,000

The first plan was nearly double the ceiling. Changing the session, sharing snacks and taking food home brought it to exactly ₦45,000, and the children still had the film, the snacks and a treat meal.

Step 3: decide how to pay

  • Best: an outings fund saved over the month or term, so the day is already paid for.
  • Fine: this month's fun budget, paid in cash or from your account.
  • Reasonable in some cases: credit for part of the cost, if it stays inside the ceiling, the full cost of credit is clear before you agree, and repayment falls after income arrives.
  • Avoid: credit that takes the day above the ceiling, or repayment that competes with school costs.

Our guide to borrowing for leisure explains the test to use before borrowing for fun.

Ideas that keep costs down

  1. Go to morning or early sessions, which many venues price lower than evenings.
  2. Look for family or discount days at your venue.
  3. Pick films the whole family wants to see, so you buy one set of tickets, not two.
  4. Agree extras before leaving home. Children cope better with a clear rule, such as one treat each, than with a string of refusals.
  5. Alternate paid and free outings. A cinema trip one month, a park or free event the next.

Saving for outings across the year

School holidays, birthdays and festive periods bring several outings close together. A small amount set aside each month, ring-fenced from the general budget, turns those into planned events rather than surprises. If a family wants a cinema outing every school holiday, for example, dividing the expected cost by the months between holidays gives a monthly saving figure.

Children's birthday outings

A birthday outing with a child's friends adds a new set of costs: extra tickets, snacks for every guest, sometimes a cake or a party pack. Plan it like a group meal:

  1. Fix the number of guests first, then the budget.
  2. Tell parents clearly what is covered, such as tickets and one snack each, and what is not.
  3. Ask the venue about group or party packages and what they include, and compare them with booking separately.
  4. Agree pick-up times and transport with other parents in advance, so you are not paying for extra rides.
  5. Keep a small reserve for the unexpected, such as a guest who arrives with a sibling.

A clear plan is kinder to your budget and to other families, who also know what to expect.

Teaching children about money on the day

An outing is a good chance to show children how a budget works. Give older children a fixed amount for snacks or extras and let them decide how to spend it. They learn that choosing one thing means not choosing another, which is the same principle as the family's own budget.

Where Pryme fits

A Flexible Savings Box can hold an outings fund through the term. Movies and cinema, and eateries and restaurants, are sectors in Spaces, Pryme's merchant network. Pryme customers may be offered Loans on Spaces, lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank and spendable only with Spaces merchants, after accepting an agreement that shows the amount, cost and repayment date. For the cinema itself, see cinema trips on credit, and for school-related costs, saving for school fees term by term.

Questions people ask

How much does a family cinema outing cost in Nigeria?

It depends on the venue, session and family size. Set one total for tickets, snacks, food and transport, and plan to fit it.

How can I take my children out on a budget?

Choose morning sessions, share snacks, eat at home or take food home, agree extras in advance and alternate paid and free outings.

Should I borrow money for a family outing?

Usually not. Save an outings fund. If you use credit, keep it inside your planned total and repay from income already due.

What are cheap family outings in Nigeria?

Parks, free community events, early cinema sessions and home film nights cost far less than evening outings with a meal out.
