Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Cinema trips on credit: keeping leisure spending in check

Tickets, snacks, drinks and transport can make a cinema night cost far more than the ticket. How to plan it, cut the extras and use credit wisely.

The short answer

A cinema trip on credit is fine when it is planned, within your monthly fun budget and repaid on time from income that is already coming. Most of the cost of a cinema outing is often in snacks, drinks and transport rather than the ticket, so planning those usually saves more than borrowing ever helps.

What a cinema trip really costs

The ticket is the visible price, but a night at the cinema usually involves more. A useful habit is to price the whole outing, not just the screen:

CostWhat to think about
TicketsSession time, day of the week and screen type often change the price
Snacks and drinksCombos at the counter can approach the ticket price
TransportRide-hailing at night, parking or fuel
Food before or afterA meal out can double the cost of the evening
Booking or service chargesSome online bookings add a fee

Under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, displayed prices should match what you pay at the point of payment. Check the final total before you confirm a booking, including any charges added at checkout.

A worked example

These figures are illustrative examples only, not real venue prices or Pryme rates.

Item (example)Weekend eveningWeekday early session
2 tickets₦12,000₦8,000
Snacks and drinks₦9,000₦4,000 (one shared combo)
Transport₦8,000₦5,000
Dinner after₦18,000₦0 (eat at home before)
Total₦47,000₦17,000

The same film costs ₦47,000 or ₦17,000 depending on choices that have nothing to do with the film. Over a few outings, that difference is far larger than any saving from careful borrowing.

When credit for a cinema trip is reasonable

  • The outing is within this month's fun budget, and your income arrives before the repayment date.
  • You are booking a specific, planned event, such as a premiere or a birthday treat, and you know the total.
  • You can see the full cost of credit before you agree, and it is small compared with the outing.

If you are weighing a pay-later option, our explainer on buy now, pay later in Nigeria covers how repayments usually work.

When to pay cash or wait

  • When the trip would take you over your fun budget.
  • When cinema on credit is becoming a weekly habit.
  • When you have other repayments due in the same period.
  • When the film will still be showing after payday.

Ways to cut the cost

  1. Choose the session. Weekday and early sessions are often cheaper than weekend evenings. Check the venue's own pricing.
  2. Share snacks. One combo between two people is usually enough.
  3. Eat before. A meal at home before the film removes the biggest extra.
  4. Look for venue offers. Some cinemas run discount days or loyalty schemes; check what applies at yours.
  5. Travel together. Sharing a ride with friends splits transport costs.

Booking online safely

Popular films and premieres sell out, and that creates room for people selling tickets they do not have. Protect yourself:

  • Book through the cinema's own website, app or box office, or a ticketing channel the venue names.
  • Do not pay a stranger on social media for tickets, especially by transfer to a personal account.
  • Check the booking confirmation for the date, session, screen and seat before the day.
  • Keep the confirmation and receipt.

If you need to cancel, check the venue's terms first. The FCCPC notes that consumers can generally cancel advance bookings and receive a refund less reasonable charges, and that any refund restrictions should be stated in writing. Knowing this before you book helps you decide whether to buy early or wait.

Going with friends

Group trips are where costs drift. Agree in advance who is paying for what. If one person books all the tickets, have everyone transfer their share before the day, not after. If credit is used, the person who borrowed should only borrow their own share. The same approach as paying for a group meal works here.

If the trip is a date or a treat

Cinema is a common choice for dates and small celebrations, which is where people are most tempted to overspend to make an impression. A good evening rarely depends on the most expensive seat or the largest combo. Agree beforehand how you will share costs, choose a session that suits both your budgets, and keep dinner simple or skip it. If one person is treating the other, the same rule applies: spend what is in the fun budget, not what credit allows.

Tracking your leisure spend

Keep all leisure spending in one place, so a glance tells you where you are in the month. If cinema, eating out and events come from the same fun budget, you can trade one off against the other: a cinema trip this weekend might mean a cheaper meal next weekend. Reviewing the total at the end of each month shows whether leisure is drifting upwards.

Where Pryme fits

Movies and cinema is one of the sectors in Spaces, Pryme's merchant network. Pryme customers may be offered Loans on Spaces, lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank and spendable only with Spaces merchants. The agreement, with the amount, cost and repayment date, is shown in the app before you accept, and nothing is drawn until you do. You can ask your Personal Assistant to track your fun budget or remind you before a repayment. For the bigger picture, see should you borrow for leisure. You can open an account from any country.

Questions people ask

How much does a cinema trip cost in Nigeria?

It depends on the venue, day and session. Price the whole outing, including snacks, transport and any meal, not just the ticket.

Can I pay for cinema tickets later?

Some providers offer pay-later or credit that can be used at cinemas. Check the full cost and repayment date before agreeing.

What is the cheapest day to go to the cinema?

Weekday and early sessions are often cheaper than weekend evenings, but check your venue's own pricing and offers.

Is it okay to borrow money for entertainment?

Only for small, planned outings within your fun budget, repaid from income that is already coming.
