Ten years, one trunk

2023Multicurrency

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Checklist: verify any lender before you borrow

Five checks in order: FCCPC register, CBN licence list, state money-lender licence, CAC record and a real address. Do them before you share any data.

The short answer

Check five things, in this order: whether a loan app appears on the FCCPC's register of approved digital money lenders, whether a bank, microfinance bank or finance company appears in the CBN's directory of supervised institutions, whether a private money lender holds a licence under its state's money lenders law, whether the company name and registration number match the Corporate Affairs Commission record, and whether it has a physical address you can confirm. A lender that fails any of these is one to walk away from.

Why the order matters

Nigerian lenders sit under different regulators depending on what they are. A deposit-taking bank or microfinance bank is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria. A digital lender that is not a bank must be approved by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). A traditional money lender who lends from an office, without an app, is governed by the money lenders law of the state where it operates. Every legitimate company, whatever its licence, is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Working through the checks in order tells you quickly which regulator should know the lender, and then whether it does.

Do all of this before you install an app, share your BVN, or grant access to your contacts. Once a dishonest lender has your data, the damage is done.

The checklist

  1. FCCPC register (loan apps and online lenders). Open the FCCPC's "Approvals of Digital Money Lenders" page and search the table for both the app name and the company name. The table lists a serial number, the name of the company and the name of its app or apps. The app name in your phone's store must match a company on the list.
  2. CBN directory (banks, microfinance banks, finance companies). The CBN publishes lists of supervised institutions by category, including deposit money banks, microfinance banks, finance companies and primary mortgage institutions. The lists can be exported to Excel, which makes searching easier. If a lender says it is a microfinance bank, it should be on the microfinance bank list under the same name.
  3. State money lender licence (offline lenders). A private lender that is neither a bank nor an app should be able to show a current licence issued under its state's money lenders law. Ask for a copy and confirm it with the state ministry or the court registry named on it. See how state money lender licences work.
  4. CAC record. Search the company name on the CAC public search and confirm the registration number, status and registered address match what the lender gives you. A "business name" registration is not the same as a limited company.
  5. Physical address and contacts. Confirm the office exists: visit, or ask someone you trust to. Check that the complaint channels in the app work. A lender with only a WhatsApp number and no traceable address is a warning sign.

Reading the FCCPC register properly

The register is long: the table we checked in October 2026 ran to more than 480 entries and the page showed a last-modified date of 3 March 2026. A few practical points help you read it:

  • Search by company name as well as app name. Some companies list several apps; some app names look alike across different companies.
  • Copycat apps borrow the name of an approved one. Check the developer name in the app store against the company named on the register.
  • The FCCPC tells consumers to borrow only from approved digital money lenders and takes complaints at lenderstaskforce@fccpc.gov.ng.
  • The Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, 2025 are being enforced: the FCCPC suspended them in April 2026 under a court order and resumed full enforcement on 20 July 2026 after the Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed the challenge.

Our step-by-step guide on checking a loan app on the FCCPC register has screenshots of what to look for, and FCCPC approval vs CBN licence explains why some lenders appear on one list and not the other.

Red flags during the conversation

  • A fee demanded before the loan is paid out. See loan app asks for a processing fee first.
  • A loan described as certain before any check has been done on you.
  • No written agreement showing the amount, interest, fees, repayment date and penalties.
  • Requests for access to your contacts, photos or social media.
  • Pressure to decide within minutes.

A quick worked example (illustrative only)

Tolu sees an advert for a loan app called "QuickNaira". She searches the FCCPC register and finds no app with that name. She searches the company name shown in the app store and finds a company listed, but with a different app. She checks CAC and the company exists. Result: the company is approved, but this app is not shown against it. Tolu emails the FCCPC to ask, and does not install the app while she waits. That one check took ten minutes and spared her from handing her contacts to an app that might be a copy.

Where Pryme fits

Loans on Spaces are lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, which is licensed by the CBN, so you can check it on the CBN microfinance bank list. A limit is offered based on how your account is run, and the full agreement is shown for you to accept before anything is drawn. Read more on Loans on Spaces or how Pryme works.

Questions people ask

How do I know if a loan app is approved by the FCCPC?

Open the FCCPC "Approvals of Digital Money Lenders" page and search for the app and company name. If neither appears, do not borrow and report it to the FCCPC.

How can I check if a microfinance bank is licensed by the CBN?

Use the CBN's directory of supervised institutions and open the microfinance bank list. You can export it to Excel and search by name.

Do private money lenders need a licence in Nigeria?

Lenders who are not banks or digital lenders generally need a licence under their state's money lenders law. Ask to see it and confirm it with the issuing office.

Where do I report a fake loan app?

The FCCPC accepts complaints about digital lenders at lenderstaskforce@fccpc.gov.ng and through its complaints portal. Its listed phone lines are 0805 600 2020 and 0805 600 3030.
