Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

What a lender must tell you before you sign

Under the FCCPC's 2025 digital lending rules, rates, repayment terms and fees must be shown in plain English before you commit. The full list.

The short answer

Under the FCCPC's Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, 2025, a lender must fully disclose its interest rates, repayment terms and fees before any transaction is completed, in clear, simple English that is not misleading, and must give you the contract terms immediately. It may change rates or fees only where the contract expressly allows it, and may not charge for services you did not request. Banks and microfinance banks are also covered by CBN consumer protection rules.

Which rules apply to your lender

Two sets of rules matter. Digital and other non-bank consumer lenders fall under the FCCPC's Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, 2025 (the DEON Regulations), made on 21 July 2025. The FCCPC suspended them in April 2026 after a court order, and resumed full enforcement on 20 July 2026 when the Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed the challenge and upheld the Regulations. Banks, microfinance banks and finance companies are supervised by the CBN, which has its own consumer protection framework. We could not open the CBN's consumer protection text when we checked in October 2026, so this article quotes only the FCCPC rules and points out what to ask any lender for.

What the DEON Regulations require

RequirementRegulationWhat it means for you
Interest rates, repayment terms and fees fully disclosed before any transaction is completedReg. 17(a)You should see the cost before you tap accept, not after the money lands.
Terms in clear, legible, simple English comprehensible to the average consumer, not misleading or deceptiveReg. 17(a)Hidden or confusing wording is a breach in itself.
Rates and associated charges displayed on the lender's website and platformsReg. 17(b)You can compare before applying.
Immediate delivery of the contracting terms, digitally or otherwiseReg. 17(c)Ask for, and keep, a copy of the agreement.
Rate or fee changes only if expressly provided for in the termsReg. 18(a)(i)A lender cannot raise the cost mid-loan unless the contract said it could.
No fees for products or services the consumer has not requestedReg. 19(f)Add-ons you did not choose should not be charged.
Channels for enquiries and complaints provided and disclosedRegs. 19(c), 22(c)You must be told how to complain.

Breaches carry penalties under Regulation 27: up to ₦50 million for an individual, up to ₦100 million or 1% of turnover (whichever is greater) for a company, and disqualification of directors for up to five years.

The disclosure list to demand from any lender

Whatever its regulator, a lender you can trust should put all of these in writing before you sign:

  • Amount you will actually receive, after any deductions.
  • Interest rate and its basis: per day, per month or per year, flat or reducing balance.
  • Every fee: processing, management, insurance, disbursement, each as a naira figure.
  • Total repayable: principal plus all interest and fees.
  • Tenor and the repayment schedule: dates and amount of each instalment.
  • Late payment charges and how default interest is worked out. See default interest clauses.
  • Early settlement: whether you can repay early and what it costs. See settling a loan early.
  • Security or guarantees required, and any direct debit you are giving.
  • How to complain, inside the lender and to the regulator.

Why the basis of interest matters: a worked example

Two offers for ₦100,000 over 30 days, both illustrative:

Offer AOffer B
Stated rate0.5% per day10% per month
Interest for 30 days₦100,000 × 0.5% × 30 = ₦15,000₦100,000 × 10% = ₦10,000
Processing fee₦0₦3,000
Total repayable₦115,000₦113,000
Simple annualised interest rate (rate only)182.5%120%

Offer A sounds cheaper ("half a percent") but costs ₦2,000 more in total. Only the total repayable tells you the true cost, which is why it is the first number to ask for. Our guide to APR vs flat fees explains how to compare offers stated in different ways.

What to keep once you accept

Disclosure only protects you if you can prove what was disclosed. Save the offer screen showing the amount, rate, fees and due date before you accept, download or screenshot the full terms, and keep the confirmation message after disbursement. Note the date and time. If the amount repaid later differs from the total you were shown, those records are what a complaint to the lender or regulator will turn on. A lender that removes old offers from its app does not remove your copy.

If a lender did not disclose

  1. Take screenshots of the offer screen, the agreement and any messages.
  2. Complain to the lender in writing through the channel it must disclose.
  3. For a digital lender, complain to the FCCPC at lenderstaskforce@fccpc.gov.ng or through its complaints portal.
  4. For a bank or microfinance bank, complain to the bank first, then escalate to the CBN. See complaining to the CBN about a bank loan.

Where Pryme fits

Loans on Spaces, lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, show the agreement in full in the app (amount, cost and repayment date) and nothing is drawn until you accept. Read what to look at in accepting a Loans on Spaces offer.

Questions people ask

What must a loan app tell me before I borrow in Nigeria?

Under the FCCPC DEON Regulations, 2025, it must fully disclose interest rates, repayment terms and fees before the transaction is completed, in clear simple English, and give you the contract terms.

Can a loan app increase my interest after I borrow?

Only if the contract expressly allows it, according to Regulation 18(a)(i) of the DEON Regulations. Keep your copy of the terms to check.

Are the FCCPC digital lending regulations in force?

Yes. The FCCPC resumed full enforcement on 20 July 2026 after the Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed the challenge to them.

What is the penalty for a lender that breaks the FCCPC rules?

Regulation 27 allows fines of up to ₦100 million or 1% of turnover for a company, up to ₦50 million for an individual, and director disqualification of up to five years.
