Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Sharing bank statements with auditors that can be verified

Why auditors and lenders want bank statements they can check are genuine and unaltered, how Nigerian law treats them, and how to provide them.

The short answer

Auditors and lenders treat a statement as evidence only if they can be confident it came from the bank and has not been edited, because a PDF or screenshot is easy to alter. Provide statements in a form they can check: a bank confirmation sent direct to the auditor, a bank-stamped statement, or a verifiable statement whose authenticity anyone can confirm. Nigerian evidence law has also moved to recognise electronic records and signatures that show alterations.

Every audit of a Nigerian company starts with cash, because cash is where errors and fraud show up first. If the owner is abroad and the accounts officer in Lagos emails a PDF statement, the auditor has a problem: it could have been edited in minutes. The same applies when a lender, landlord or investor asks for statements. The question is not whether you trust your staff; it is whether the reader can check the document without trusting anyone.

Why an ordinary PDF is weak evidence

  • A PDF can be edited with common software, and the change leaves no visible trace.
  • A screenshot of a banking app shows only what was on screen, with no proof of source.
  • Statements forwarded by the person who prepared the accounts are not independent of them.
  • Doctored statements are a known problem in Nigeria; the Nigeria library explains how doctored statements are caught.

For this reason auditors commonly ask for confirmation of balances directly from the bank, and lenders ask for statements they can trace to the source. If the evidence comes through the client, they will test it.

What Nigerian law says about electronic statements

Section 84 of the Evidence Act 2011 governs computer-generated evidence and sets conditions that can be proved by a certificate or oral evidence, as Mondaq's review of recent cases explains; the same review notes a 2023 Court of Appeal decision treating bank statements differently from other computer output. The Evidence (Amendment) Act 2023, summarised by Omaplex, extended section 84 to "electronic records" and recognises digital signatures as secure where the signing data is under the signatory's control and alterations are detectable.

Tax authorities can also ask for records held electronically. Section 57 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 lets the tax authority require records held in computers, devices or cloud facilities, giving at least seven days to produce them, and section 31 requires records to be kept for at least six years. Statements that can be verified long after they were issued serve both needs.

Ways to give auditors statements they can trust

OptionHow it worksLimits
Bank confirmation letterAuditor writes to the bank; bank replies directly with balancesTakes time; one date only
Bank-stamped statementStatement printed and stamped at a branchNeeds a branch visit; stamps can be imitated
Read-only accessAuditor views the account onlineNot every bank offers it; access must be removed after
Verifiable statementStatement issued so anyone can check it is genuine and unalteredThe reader must use the verification route

The Nigeria library compares the two common formats in bank-stamped versus verifiable statements.

Common mistakes

  • Sending statements for the main account only, leaving out dormant, collection or foreign-currency accounts the auditor will find anyway.
  • Gaps in the period, such as a missing month or statements that start a week after the year began.
  • Cropped or reformatted statements, which look edited even when they are not.
  • Password-protected files sent without the password, or with it in the same email.
  • Statements in a staff member's personal email chain rather than sent from a company address or shared through a controlled link.

Preparing for the audit from abroad

  1. List every bank and payment account the company holds, including dormant ones and foreign-currency accounts.
  2. Authorise the auditor to request confirmations directly from each bank.
  3. Provide full-year statements for every account in a verifiable form, covering the whole period with no gaps.
  4. Reconcile each closing balance to the ledger before the auditor arrives.
  5. Keep the verified copies with the audit file for at least six years.

Example only. A company with three accounts (a naira current account, a USD domiciliary account and a collections account) supplies 36 monthly statements (3 × 12) as verifiable documents and authorises three bank confirmations. The auditor checks each statement, matches the confirmation balances, and moves on to sales within a day rather than a week. See also audit preparation for an owner abroad and verifiable receipts in a cross-border business.

The same approach helps beyond the audit. Lenders assessing a company loan, landlords vetting a commercial tenant and investors doing due diligence all face the same question of whether a statement is real, and a statement they can check themselves usually shortens their process.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme partners with VerifyDoc.ai. Any Pryme customer can generate a regular or a verifiable statement or receipt, and anyone, including an auditor or lender, can verify that a verifiable one is genuine and unaltered. See receipts and statements; a Business Account covers NGN, USD, GBP and EUR balances.

Questions people ask

Why won't my auditor accept a PDF bank statement?

Because a PDF can be edited without trace. Auditors want evidence they can trace to the bank, such as a direct confirmation or a statement they can verify.

What is a verifiable bank statement?

A statement issued so that anyone who receives it can check it came from the issuer and has not been altered.

Are electronic bank statements admissible in Nigerian courts?

Section 84 of the Evidence Act governs computer-generated evidence, extended to electronic records in 2023. Admissibility depends on the conditions and case law; take legal advice for litigation.

How long should my company keep bank statements?

At least six years after the year of assessment under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025.
