Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Holding US dollars while living in Spain: your options

How a Spain resident can hold US dollars alongside euros: a Spanish foreign-currency account, a Nigerian domiciliary account or a multicurrency account.

The short answer

A Spain resident has three practical ways to hold dollars: a foreign-currency account at a Spanish bank, where offered; a Nigerian domiciliary account, which can be opened remotely and can send up to $10,000 a day under the CBN FX Manual 2026; or a multicurrency account holding USD alongside euros. Whichever you choose, interest and exchange gains are part of your Spanish tax picture, and foreign accounts may need reporting.

Many Nigerians in Spain earn or hold dollars: fees from Nigerian or American clients, savings built up before moving, or family money. Converting everything to euros on arrival is simple but locks in the rate of the day. Holding dollars keeps your options open, at the cost of exchange-rate risk against the euro. This guide sets out the options and what to weigh.

Option 1: a foreign-currency account at a Spanish bank

Some Spanish banks offer accounts in foreign currencies, including US dollars, for residents. Conditions vary: some charge maintenance fees, some only offer them in certain branches or to premium customers, and incoming dollar transfers may still carry an international transfer fee. Ask your bank for its tariff and whether you can receive dollars without them being converted on arrival. We cover Spanish banks' offers in more detail in foreign-currency accounts at Spanish banks.

  • For: your money stays in the Spanish banking system, and statements are familiar to your gestor.
  • Against: not every bank offers one; fees can be high for small balances.

Option 2: a Nigerian domiciliary account

A domiciliary (dom) account at a Nigerian bank holds dollars, euros or pounds. Banks publish remote opening routes: Access Bank describes opening through the NRBVN platform for Nigerians abroad, and Fidelity lists a Diaspora Domiciliary account with a minimum of $50, €50 or £50. UBA lists diaspora accounts requiring a form, ID, proof of address, source of funds and a photo. Details are in opening a Nigerian domiciliary account from Spain.

Under the CBN Foreign Exchange Manual 2026 (effective 1 June 2026), TheCable reports that dom holders may make telegraphic transfers up to $10,000 a day and need not disclose the source of funds on deposit. The CBN's non-resident account framework adds that foreign-currency balances in Non-Resident Nigerian accounts are repatriable "without restrictions", according to Mondaq.

  • For: useful if you pay dollar costs in Nigeria (school fees, property) or receive dollars from Nigerian clients.
  • Against: SWIFT charges each time you move money to Spain; we found no official NDIC statement on whether foreign-currency deposits are insured or at what rate; and a dollar payment sent through a money transfer operator is paid in naira under the manual.

Option 3: a multicurrency account

Multicurrency accounts hold several currencies in one place, often with local account details for each, so a US client can pay you in dollars and you convert to euros when you choose. Check who holds your money, how it is protected in each currency, and the rate and fee shown before each conversion.

Tax and reporting in Spain

As a Spanish tax resident, interest on dollar savings is part of your income wherever the account is, and a gain or loss when you convert dollars to euros may also need recording. Spain also has a reporting regime for assets held abroad above a threshold, which can include Nigerian accounts; see declaring Nigerian assets on Modelo 720. Check your position with a gestor; this is information, not tax advice.

Worked example of currency risk (example figures)

You hold $10,000. At $1 = €0.90 it is worth €9,000. If the dollar weakens to €0.85, it is worth €8,500, a €500 fall without spending anything; if it strengthens to €0.95, it is worth €9,500. If your costs are in euros, holding a large dollar balance for a long time is a bet on that rate. Many people keep only what they expect to spend in dollars, and the rest in euros; see saving in naira or euros.

What to check first

  1. What do you need dollars for, and when?
  2. Who pays you in dollars, and from where?
  3. What does each option charge to receive dollars and to convert them?
  4. How is the money protected in that currency?

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account holds USD, EUR, GBP and NGN with local account details for each, and money stays in the currency it arrived in. Swap converts only when you choose, with the rate shown first and the fee on its own line. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Is a Nigerian dollar account a good option from Spain?

It can be if you pay or receive dollars in Nigeria. It can be opened remotely, and under the CBN FX Manual 2026 it can send up to $10,000 a day, but each transfer to Spain carries SWIFT charges.
