Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

Getting money to Nigeria the same day from Australia

Cash pickup and some app transfers can reach Nigeria within minutes, bank deposits may take a business day. What each provider says and what slows money.

The short answer

Same-day delivery to Nigeria is most likely with cash pickup or an app that pays a Nigerian bank account through Nigeria's instant payment system, funded from money the provider already holds. As at October 2026, Western Union Australia says cash pickup can arrive "in minutes" while bank timings "can vary"; Taptap Send says bank transfers can take 1 to 2 business days to appear. Identity checks, wrong details, card or bank funding and Nigerian public holidays are what usually push money into the next day.

What decides whether money arrives today

An international transfer has three legs: your money reaching the provider in Australia, the provider's checks and conversion, and the payout in Nigeria. Inside Nigeria, the last leg can be very fast. NIBSS describes NIBSS Instant Payment (NIP) as account-number-based real-time transfer in which funds are available to the beneficiary before settlement, and Verto's overview of the Nigerian system describes NIP as running 24/7. Delays almost always come from the first two legs, or from the Nigerian bank holding an incoming international credit.

Delivery methods and what providers say about speed

MethodWhat the provider's own page saysSame-day chance
Cash pickup (Western Union)"in minutes" for cash pickup from Australia (WU Australia page, Oct 2026)High, while agents are open
Bank account (Western Union)Australian page: "the timings can vary"; WU blog (1 Feb 2026): usually within the same banking day, may take longerPossible, not certain
Bank account (Taptap Send)Bank transfers can take 1 to 2 business days to appear; check the "Date Available" in the appPossible, not certain
Mobile wallet (MoneyGram)In minutes, per MoneyGram's developer page for Nigeria (modified 23 Oct 2025)High, where the wallet is supported
Bank deposit (MoneyGram)1 business day, per the same pageLower
Bank SWIFT transferDepends on your bank and intermediaries; see our SWIFT guideLow

These are statements on each provider's own pages, not tests we ran, and they are not a ranking. Check the delivery estimate on your quote before you pay; most apps show one.

What slows urgent money down

  • Identity and compliance checks. Every provider screens transfers, and a request for a document or for the source of your money stops the clock until you answer. Western Union's Australian page warns that funds "may be delayed or services unavailable based on certain transaction conditions". A first transfer with a new provider is the one most likely to be checked.
  • How you fund it. The provider cannot pay out until your money reaches it. Western Union's page lists POLi bank payment, cards and cash at an agent; a payment that clears at once removes one wait.
  • Wrong or mismatched details. A name that does not match the account, or a mistyped account number, can see the money held or returned, which costs days rather than hours.
  • Holidays in Nigeria. Taptap Send says receiving banks generally do not process most transfers on public holidays, and that a recipient wallet that is inactive, full or at its limit can also stop delivery.
  • Agent hours. Cash pickup is quick to send, but the receiver must reach an open agent with ID.

Steps for an emergency transfer

  1. Ask the receiver which is quickest for them: a bank account they can spend from straight away, a wallet, or cash.
  2. Get the details right first: the account name exactly as the bank holds it, the 10-digit account number and the bank. For cash pickup, the receiver's full name as on their ID.
  3. Use a provider you are already verified with. A first transfer with a new provider is the most likely to stop for checks.
  4. Fund it with a method the provider treats as instant, and keep your phone and email to hand in case they ask questions.
  5. Send the tracking reference to the receiver. For Western Union cash, the receiver needs the MTCN, the expected amount, the sender's name and country, and valid ID such as an international passport, driver's licence, voter's card, national ID card or BVN, according to Western Union Nigeria's FAQ.
  6. If nothing arrives by the time shown, contact the provider with the reference rather than sending a second transfer.

Choosing between cash and a bank account in an emergency

For a hospital deposit or an urgent fee, ask whether the payee takes a bank transfer. If they do, paying into the recipient's own account lets them transfer onward at once over NIP. Cash pickup suits a relative who must pay cash or has no working account, but it needs a trip to an open agent with valid ID. Western Union's Australian page notes fees for cash pickup vary with the amount, so the faster option is not always the same price.

If it must arrive on a weekend or holiday

NIP itself runs around the clock, but providers, agents and receiving banks keep their own hours. Our guide to sending on weekends and public holidays covers this in detail, and how long transfers from Australia take sets out normal timings.

Where Pryme fits

If you keep US dollars, sterling or euros in a Pryme account, you can Swap to naira when you choose and pay a Nigerian account with Send; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Having money already in the account removes the wait for an Australian bank payment to land.

Questions people ask

What is the fastest way to send money from Australia to Nigeria?

Cash pickup and mobile wallet payouts are the methods providers describe as arriving in minutes. Bank deposits can be fast but some providers quote up to one or two business days. Check the estimate on your quote.

Can money reach a Nigerian bank account the same day?

Often, because Nigeria's NIP system is real-time, but identity checks, funding delays, wrong details or a Nigerian public holiday can push it to the next business day.

Why is my urgent transfer on hold?

Usually for identity or compliance checks, or because your payment to the provider has not arrived. Reply to any request quickly and contact the provider with your reference.

What does the receiver need to collect Western Union cash in Nigeria?

The MTCN, expected amount, sender's full name and country, and valid ID such as an international passport, driver's licence, voter's card, national ID card or BVN, per Western Union Nigeria's FAQ.
