Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Italy

Upwork or Fiverr income in Italy: tax for Nigerian freelancers

How Italy treats freelance platform income, when a partita IVA is needed, how the forfettario applies, and the records to keep from Upwork or Fiverr.

The short answer

Income from Upwork or Fiverr is self-employment income in Italy if you are tax resident there, and regular, ongoing work through a platform normally needs a partita IVA, often under the regime forfettario. Under that regime you pay a substitute tax of 15% (or 5% for start-ups) on 78% of fees for most professional services, plus INPS gestione separata at 26.07% in 2026; occasional, one-off work is treated differently.

Platform income is still your income

Many Nigerians in Italy started freelancing on Upwork or Fiverr before they moved, and kept going after. The platform changes how you find clients and get paid, but not how Italy looks at the money: if you live in Italy and are tax resident there, fees earned through a platform are income from your own work, and the platform fee is a cost of earning it.

Occasional work or a partita IVA?

Italian tax distinguishes between work done habitually and in an organised way, which calls for a partita IVA, and genuine one-off jobs, which can be declared as occasional income. A profile that is live all year, takes repeat orders and earns most months looks habitual. A single gig in a year may be occasional. There is no single euro threshold that decides it, so ask a commercialista to look at your pattern of work, and see our guide to occasional work and ritenuta d'acconto.

Using the regime forfettario

Most platform freelancers who open a partita IVA choose the forfettario. Money.it's 2026 guide gives the main figures:

  • Revenue limit €85,000 a year, summed across activities.
  • Coefficient 78% for professional, scientific and technical services (writers, designers, developers); 67% for "other" activities.
  • Substitute tax 15%, or 5% for five years for qualifying new activities.
  • Not available if you had more than €35,000 of employment income in the previous year, among other exclusions.
  • Electronic invoicing is a condition of the regime.

Because the coefficient replaces actual costs, platform service fees are not deducted on top under the forfettario. Under the ordinary regime, they would be a business cost.

Who is your customer?

On a platform, the person who buys your work and the company that pays you may be different, and your invoices and IVA treatment depend on who the customer is. Check your platform account documents and terms for which entity contracts with you and which issues your earnings statements. If the customer is a business established in another EU country, Euroconference News describes the invoice as issued without IVA with "inversione contabile" and an Intra listing; if outside the EU, "operazione non soggetta". If the buyers are private individuals, ask your commercialista how IVA applies.

INPS contributions

As a professional with no other pension cover you pay into the gestione separata at 26.07% in 2026, under INPS circular no. 8 of 3 February 2026. Example, for illustration only: €20,000 of platform earnings in a year, at the 78% coefficient, gives €15,600 of income, contributions of about €4,067 and, at 5%, substitute tax of €780.

Getting paid out

Platforms pay out in different ways and in different currencies, and the cost of each route sits partly with the platform and partly with whoever converts the money. Before you choose, compare what reaches you in euro on a typical withdrawal, not the headline fee alone. Withdraw at regular intervals so your records line up with your monthly earnings statements, which makes the year-end sums easier for your commercialista.

First-year checklist

  1. Decide with a commercialista whether your platform work is habitual or occasional.
  2. If habitual, open a partita IVA with the right Ateco code and choose the regime.
  3. Register for INPS gestione separata.
  4. Set aside tax and contributions from each withdrawal, remembering the advances in year two.
  5. Download platform statements every month rather than relying on access later.

Records to keep

  • Monthly or annual earnings statements from the platform, showing gross fees and platform fees.
  • Withdrawal records from the platform to your bank or wallet, with the euro value on the day received.
  • Contracts or order pages for larger jobs, showing the client and its country.
  • Your invoices, if your commercialista says you must issue them, and their SdI receipts.

Where Pryme fits

If you withdraw platform earnings in dollars or euro, a Pryme account keeps them in the currency they arrived in until you choose to convert with Swap, which shows the rate and fee first; see multicurrency. Related: the forfettario with Nigerian clients and gestione separata.

Questions people ask

Do I pay tax in Italy on Upwork income?

Yes, if you are tax resident in Italy. Platform fees are self-employment income, declared under the forfettario or ordinary regime, or as occasional income for genuine one-off work.

Do I need a partita IVA for Fiverr?

For regular, ongoing work, usually yes. A single occasional job may not need one; a commercialista can assess your pattern of work.

Can I deduct Upwork fees from my income?

Not under the forfettario, where the coefficient replaces actual costs. Under the ordinary regime they are a business cost.

How much INPS do I pay on platform income?

26.07% of taxable income in 2026 for professionals with no other cover, under INPS circular no. 8 of 2026.
