Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to update the phone number on your NIN

Change the contact number on your NIMC record through NIMC's official self-service channel or at a centre, what it costs, and how it affects *346#.

The short answer

You change the phone number on your NIMC record either through NIMC's official self-service channel, if you can still sign in, or at a NIMC enrolment centre with ID. Phone number changes were not itemised separately in NIMC's May 2025 fee list, where modification of other fields cost ₦2,000 per transaction, so confirm the charge shown before you pay. Once the change is through, *346# and NIMC sign-in codes work from the new number.

Which phone number this is

Two different links between your NIN and a phone exist, and people often mix them up.

Phone number on your NIMC record
The contact number NIMC holds on your identity record. It is the number *346# recognises and the one NIMC's self-service channels use for sign-in codes. You change it with NIMC.
NIN-SIM linking
Your network's record that a SIM belongs to you. Every SIM you own should be linked to your NIN. You manage it with your network, not NIMC.

This guide is about the first. If your network says your SIM is not linked, see the linking guides for MTN, Glo or Airtel instead.

Route 1: NIMC's self-service channel

NIMC runs its digital services through its official website and app. In May 2025 it launched NINAuth, a set of web, API and mobile services, and advised people to download its app only from Google Play or the Apple App Store, according to Mobile ID World. NAN reported that NINAuth lets users manage their data-sharing preferences. Where contact details can be changed online, the general flow is:

  1. Open NIMC's official website or app from the official store. Ignore links sent by message.
  2. Sign in with your NIN. A code may go to your current registered number, so this route suits people who still have the old line.
  3. Find the option to update or modify your details and choose phone number.
  4. Enter the new number and confirm it with any code sent to it.
  5. Pay any fee shown on screen, then keep the receipt or reference.

Menus change between app versions and some modifications must be completed at a centre, so if the option is not there for you, use the centre route.

Route 2: an enrolment centre

If you have lost the old line, or the online option will not let you through, visit a NIMC enrolment centre with valid photo ID and your NIN or slip. The officer can confirm your identity with your fingerprints and update the number. Ask for the fee before the work starts and pay only through the official channel, with a receipt.

What it costs

NIMC published revised fees in May 2025, reported by Nairametrics:

ServiceFee as at May 2025
Modification of names, address and other fields, per transaction₦2,000
Date of birth correction₦28,574
NIN slip re-issuance₦600

Phone number changes are not named separately in that report. Some people are charged under "other fields" and some updates may be handled differently, so treat ₦2,000 as a guide and confirm the amount on screen or at the counter. Our page on NIMC fees carries the full table.

Worked example

Example only. Ngozi wants to update her phone number and correct a misspelt middle name. If each is charged as a separate modification transaction at the May 2025 rate, she pays ₦2,000 + ₦2,000 = ₦4,000. If the centre handles both in one transaction, she pays ₦2,000. She asks before paying.

What changes afterwards

  • *346# retrieval works from the new number once the update has gone through. Dialling from the old line will no longer return your NIN.
  • NIMC sign-in codes go to the new number.
  • Your bank and BVN are unaffected. The phone number on your BVN is held by banks and NIBSS and is changed at your bank; see changing the phone number on your BVN.
  • Your SIM links stay as they are. Link the new SIM to your NIN with your network if it is not already linked.

Allow some time for the update to take effect before testing it with *346#. If it still fails after a few days, go back to the centre with your receipt; see retrieving your NIN with *346#.

Choosing the right number

The number you put on your NIMC record will be used for years: for *346# lookups, sign-in codes and, increasingly, for consent requests when organisations verify you. A few points help:

  • Use a line registered in your own name and linked to your own NIN, not a spouse's or an office line.
  • Prefer a line you have had for a long time and intend to keep. Frequent changes mean frequent visits.
  • If you live abroad for part of the year, keep the Nigerian line active, or choose a number you can reach while travelling.
  • For a child's record, use the parent's long-term line, and update it when the child takes over their own phone.

Be wary of anyone who offers to change the number for you remotely for a fee. Changing the contact number on an identity record is exactly what a fraudster would want to do, which is why NIMC's channels confirm who you are first. Never share a code sent to your phone during the process.

Steps

  1. Decide which number you will keep for years. Avoid lines you share or might let lapse.
  2. Try NIMC's official self-service channel first if you still have the old line.
  3. Otherwise visit a centre with photo ID and your NIN.
  4. Confirm the fee before paying and keep the receipt.
  5. Test with *346# from the new line after the change has gone through.

Questions people ask

How can I change my phone number on my NIN?

Through NIMC's official self-service channel if you can sign in, or at a NIMC enrolment centre with valid ID and your NIN.

How much does it cost to change phone number on NIN?

Not itemised in NIMC's May 2025 fee list. Modification of other fields was ₦2,000 per transaction; confirm the fee shown before paying.

Will my BVN phone number change too?

No. The BVN phone number is changed at your bank. The NIMC record and the BVN record are separate.

Can I change my NIN phone number without the old SIM?

Yes, at an enrolment centre, where your identity is confirmed with ID and fingerprints rather than a code to the old line.
