Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

NIMC fees: NIN modification, slip and diaspora charges

The NIMC fee schedule reported in May 2025: free first enrolment, ₦28,574 date-of-birth change, ₦2,000 per field, ₦600 slip and diaspora dollar fees.

The short answer

NIN enrolment and the first NIN slip are free in Nigeria. Under the NIMC schedule reported on 10–12 May 2025, a date-of-birth correction costs ₦28,574 (up from ₦16,340), a change to any other field such as name or address costs ₦2,000 per transaction (up from ₦1,522.50), and a reprinted NIN slip costs ₦600 (up from ₦500). Nigerians enrolling in other African countries pay $50 per adult and $30 per child.

Last updated: October 2026

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) issues the National Identification Number (NIN), the 11-digit number you need for a SIM, a bank account, a passport and many other services. Most of what NIMC does for a first-time enrollee is free. Changes, reprints and premium services are charged. This page compiles the published charges in one place, shows how they have moved since 2021, and flags where reports disagree.

NIMC said the review came after about ten years of the same price structure. Reports of its executive summary cite inflation of 32.70%, the cost of maintaining its infrastructure and benchmarking against other agencies such as the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps. It proposed a markup of at least 20% across services, with exceptions.

Diaspora fees (US dollars)

Date-of-birth change$55$60 (Ripples Nigeria)
Name correctionNot separately stated$60 (Nairametrics)
Other data modifications$10$10

The two reports disagree on the $60 line for applicants outside Africa: Nairametrics describes it as a name correction fee and Ripples Nigeria as a date-of-birth change fee. Until NIMC publishes the full schedule in an easily found place, check the price shown by the diaspora enrolment partner before you pay.

How NIN fees have changed since 2021

Year and sourceDate of birthNameAddressOther
January 2021, NIMC Lagos coordinator on Channels TV (Guardian)₦15,000₦5,000 (name and address together)₦5,000Card renewal or replacement ₦5,000
May 2024, NIMC fees cited by WAEC₦16,340₦1,522.50₦1,522.50Phone number ₦1,522.50
May 2025 schedule (Nairametrics, Ripples)₦28,574₦2,000₦2,000Slip reprint ₦600

The 2021 figures were given in a television interview during the rush to link NINs to SIM cards, and they do not match the ₦1,522.50 field fee that WAEC cited in 2024. The sources disagree; we show both rather than choosing one. The 2025 schedule is the most recent published figure we found.

What the fees mean in practice

Worked example (illustrative): a parent who needs to fix a misspelt surname on their own record and reprint a slip would pay ₦2,000 plus ₦600, or ₦2,600. If the same parent also needs a date-of-birth correction, the total becomes ₦31,174. A family enrolling two children for the first time in Nigeria pays nothing; the same family enrolling abroad in Ghana or Kenya would pay $30 per child.

  • Each field change is charged per transaction, so changing name and address may be two charges.
  • A date-of-birth change usually needs supporting documents first; see how to correct your NIN details.
  • Your NIN details should match your BVN record, or bank checks can fail; the bank side is covered in BVN correction rules.
  • For what each number is for, see BVN vs NIN.

Who pays, and for what

You areWhat you pay under the May 2025 schedule
Enrolling for the first time in Nigeria, any ageNothing for enrolment or the first slip
Enrolling at a premium lounge, visa centre or pre-booked VIP slot₦20,000
Reprinting a lost or damaged slip at a standard centre₦600
Correcting a spelling, name, address or phone₦2,000 for each field changed
Correcting a date of birth₦28,574
Enrolling as a Nigerian living elsewhere in Africa$50 adult, $30 child

Two practical points follow from the schedule. First, the free route for first enrolment remains the standard NIMC centre or a licensed front-end partner; the ₦20,000 figure is for an optional premium service, not a requirement. Second, the date-of-birth fee is now more than fourteen times the fee for other changes, so it pays to check your details carefully at enrolment rather than correct them later.

Where Pryme fits

Opening a Pryme account, like any regulated account in Nigeria, involves identity checks against your NIN or BVN, so it helps to fix mismatches before you apply. See how Pryme works.

How we compiled this

We took the 2025 schedule from Nairametrics (10 May 2025) and Ripples Nigeria (12 May 2025), which both reported NIMC's released price list, the 2024 figures from a WAEC guide dated 31 May 2024 and the 2021 figures from The Guardian (6 January 2021). Percentages are as reported. We could not access a fee page on the NIMC website itself, so treat the reported schedule as the best available record and confirm the amount shown when you pay. A full list of other ID charges is in official fees for Nigerian IDs and documents.

Questions people ask
