Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to link NIN to your Airtel line and confirm it

Link your NIN to an Airtel SIM by USSD, app or shop visit, then confirm it with *996#. What you need, why links fail, and how to fix them.

The short answer

To link your NIN to an Airtel line, dial *996# (the NCC's harmonised NIN-SIM verification code) from the line and enter your NIN, or use the NIN option in the *121# menu or MyAirtel app if it appears. Wait for a confirmation SMS, then recheck with *996#; if it fails, take your NIN and photo ID to an Airtel shop (dial *386# to find one).

Linking your National Identification Number (NIN) to your Airtel SIM is what keeps the line working. It is a federal requirement that dates back to December 2020, and the NCC has used several deadlines since then to bar lines that were not linked and verified. This guide covers the routes Airtel customers use, what each one needs, and how to confirm the link actually took.

What you need before you start

  • Your 11-digit NIN. The number on a NIN slip, an NIN card or the NIMC mobile app is the same number.
  • The Airtel SIM you want to link, inserted in a phone that can dial USSD.
  • Your registration details exactly as on the SIM record: if the SIM was registered with a different spelling of your name, verification may fail.
  • For a shop visit: a valid photo ID and the SIM or phone.

Route 1: USSD on the line itself

The NCC's harmonised short codes, published in June 2023 for all networks, assign 996 to verification of SIM registration and NIN-SIM linkage. Dial *996# from the Airtel line, follow the prompt, and enter your NIN when asked. The reply tells you whether the submission was received.

Many guides also tell Airtel customers to use the *121# menu. Airtel's FAQ uses *121# as its line-management menu (it is where you check your number and tariff plan), and options inside it change from time to time. If you see a NIN option in that menu, it does the same job; if you do not, use *996#. Either way, the reply should be followed by a confirmation SMS.

Route 2: the Airtel app

Airtel's FAQ describes the MyAirtel app (often called Airtel Thanks) as the place to manage, track and recharge Airtel products, available from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Some versions of the app include a NIN linking or 'update KYC' screen. Airtel's FAQ that we checked in October 2026 does not document a NIN step in the app, so treat it as a convenience if it appears and fall back to USSD or a shop if it does not.

Route 3: an Airtel shop or KYC point

A shop visit is the safest route if your line is already barred, if USSD verification keeps failing, or if you need to link several lines. Airtel's FAQ says dialling *386# lists shops and KYC locations; the store locator is also on Airtel's website. The agent can capture your details, compare them with NIMC's record, and tell you exactly why a link failed.

  1. Wait for the confirmation SMS after you submit. A reply on screen alone only shows that the request was received.
  2. Dial *996# again a day or two later and read the status it returns.
  3. If the reply says the NIN is linked but not verified, or the names do not match, take your ID to an Airtel shop.
  4. Keep a screenshot of the confirmation in case your line is later barred in error.

For a fuller look at reading the replies, see how to check Airtel SIM registration and NIN status. If your line has already been cut off, go straight to restoring a barred Airtel line.

ProblemLikely reasonFix
'Invalid NIN'A digit mistyped, or the NIN is not yet activeRe-enter carefully; check the NIN on the NIMC app or slip
'Details do not match'Name or date of birth differs between SIM and NIMC recordsVisit an Airtel shop; a NIMC correction may be needed
No reply or a network errorUSSD session timed outTry again later or use a shop
Line already barredDeadline passed before verificationShop visit with ID; ask them to verify and unbar

NIN and BVN do different jobs, and banks ask for both: if you are unsure which is which, see BVN vs NIN. Linking your NIN to your SIM does not link it to your bank account, or the other way round.

Lines for children, relatives and businesses

Each SIM is linked to the NIN of the person it is registered to. If you registered lines for children or an elderly parent in your own name, each needs your NIN and counts against you; if they now have their own NIN, it is cleaner to move the registration to them at an Airtel shop. For company lines, Airtel shops can advise on corporate registration, which normally relies on the company's documents and an authorised officer's details rather than one employee's NIN.

If you hold lines on several networks, the same *996# code works across them, because it is one of the NCC's harmonised codes. Running it on each SIM in turn is the quickest way to find the one that still needs attention.

Common mistakes

  • Running the code on the wrong SIM in a dual-SIM phone.
  • Using a NIN that belongs to a relative because 'it was quicker'; the line then legally belongs to them.
  • Assuming a bank's BVN link covers the SIM; it does not.
  • Ignoring a 'pending' reply for weeks; recheck within a few days.

Where Pryme fits

Phone numbers matter to banking because many banks still send codes by SMS. Pryme uses an authenticator app and a transaction PIN instead, so a line problem does not lock you out. See Pryme security.

Questions people ask

What is the code to link NIN to an Airtel line?

The NCC's harmonised code for NIN-SIM verification on all networks is *996#. Some Airtel menus under *121# also offer a NIN option. If neither works, visit an Airtel shop with your NIN and ID.

How do I know my NIN is linked to my Airtel SIM?

You should receive a confirmation SMS. Dial *996# again after a day or two to see the status, and visit an Airtel shop if it says not verified.

Can I link one NIN to more than one Airtel line?

Yes, one NIN can be linked to several lines; each line needs its own submission. NAN reported in 2024 that the NCC's barring timetable treated subscribers with four or fewer SIMs separately, so check current rules if you hold many lines.

Is linking NIN to my SIM free on Airtel?

Airtel's pages we checked do not list a charge for NIN linking. If a USSD session or shop asks for payment, ask what it is for before paying.
