Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Buyer's transfer is 'pending': should you release the goods?

A buyer shows a pending transfer. Why pending is not paid, what the NIP states mean, and how to choose between waiting and refunding.

The short answer

No. A pending transfer is not money in your account, and you should release goods only when the credit shows in your own balance or statement, not on the buyer's screen. NIP transfers are designed to be available to the recipient in real time, so a transfer that stays pending is either still being confirmed between banks or will fail and be reversed to the buyer.

Pending is not paid

When a buyer says "it is showing pending", three things could be true. The transfer may land in a few minutes. It may fail and go back to the buyer. Or there may be no transfer at all, and the "pending" screen is a picture. In none of those cases do you have the money yet. The only proof that matters is the credit in your own account, checked in your own app or statement.

How a NIP transfer is supposed to work

Most bank-to-bank transfers in Nigeria run on NIBSS Instant Payment (NIP). According to NIBSS's own page (updated April 2026):

  • NIP is account-number based and real-time.
  • Before sending, the sender's bank runs a name enquiry to check the beneficiary's details.
  • Funds are made available to the beneficiary in real time, ahead of settlement between banks, which happens in scheduled sessions.
  • Banks can run a Transaction Status Query to find out what happened to a transfer.

So most transfers arrive in seconds. "Pending" usually means the sender's bank has sent the instruction but has not yet had a clear answer from your bank, often because one of the two banks' systems is slow or down.

The states you will see, in plain terms

What the buyer's app showsWhat it usually meansRelease the goods?
Successful, and you see the creditMoney is in your accountYes
Successful, but you see nothingYour bank may be slow to post, or the screen is fakeNo, wait and check your balance
Pending or processingBanks are still confirming; may succeed or failNo
Failed or reversedMoney went back to the buyer, or never leftNo

Labels differ between apps; read the meaning, not the colour of the tick. See credit alert vs account balance and how to spot a fake transfer receipt.

Wait or refund: how to choose

If you choose to wait

  1. Tell the buyer politely that you release goods once the money shows in your account.
  2. Offer a seat, or agree to hold the goods for a set time, such as until closing.
  3. Check your own balance, not an SMS alert forwarded by the buyer.
  4. If the buyer is a regular, you may let them go and collect later; keep the goods until then.

If the buyer wants to cancel

  • If the transfer fails, the buyer's bank reverses it to the buyer; there is nothing for you to send back.
  • If it lands later, refund it only to the same account it came from, and only after it shows in your balance. Never refund to a different account or "send back the balance" on request; that is a known scam pattern (see the overpayment scam).
  • Keep a note of the date, time, amount and sender name for each case.

If the buyer insists the money left their account

The buyer's complaint is with their own bank. The CBN's instant inter-bank EFT regulation, effective October 2018 and reported by ThisDay, set a ₦10,000 fine on banks for failed NIP transfers not reversed within 24 hours of a complaint. Whether and how that fine is applied today is not confirmed on a page we could open, but it shows the expected direction: failed transfers go back to the sender, through the sender's bank.

Even a completed transfer can be claimed back

The same 2018 regulation, as reported by ThisDay, lets a sender's bank make a written request within 14 working days for a transfer sent in error, and the receiving bank then returns it within one business day without the beneficiary's consent if the funds are still in the account. A buyer who collects goods and then reports the payment as a "wrong transfer" is a risk to know about. Keep the evidence of each sale (who collected, when, what) so you can answer your bank if it contacts you; see payment dispute evidence.

Signs the "pending" story is a trick

  • The buyer is in a hurry and pushes you to release before you check.
  • They show a screenshot rather than the live app, or refuse to let you see the app.
  • The amount is odd, or more than the price, followed by a request for "change".
  • They ask you to "confirm on your app later" and leave with the goods.

For cash-out points, see POS agent: is the customer's transfer real?; for online orders, shipping before payment clears.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme Business Account, bank-transfer checkout (free) shows you when a payment has arrived in your own account, so the decision does not rest on the buyer's screen.

Questions people ask

Transfer is pending: has the receiver got the money?

Not yet. Pending means the banks have not confirmed the transfer. It may succeed or be reversed. The receiver should check their own balance.

How long does a pending transfer take in Nigeria?

NIP transfers are designed to arrive in real time. If one stays pending, the sender should contact their bank, which can run a status query. We could not confirm a fixed time on an official page; until it lands in your balance, treat it as unpaid.

Can a buyer reverse a transfer after I release goods?

Not on their own, but their bank can. Under the CBN's 2018 EFT regulation, as reported, a transfer claimed as an error within 14 working days can be returned by your bank without your consent if the funds are still there. Keep records of each sale.

Should I accept a screenshot of a successful transfer?

No. Screenshots are easy to fake. Release goods only when the money shows in your own balance.
