Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Transferred to the wrong account number: how to get it back

The order of steps after sending to the wrong NUBAN: your bank first, then the receiving bank, consent, a police report or court. Realistic timelines.

The short answer

Tell your own bank the same day and ask it to send a recall request to the receiving bank; your bank is the only one that can make that request. Because the error was yours, the CBN's rules, as summarised, need the account holder's consent before the money is returned, and the receiving bank can hold the funds under a lien for up to two weeks while it asks. If they refuse, you will need a police report or a court order.

The rule that shapes everything

The CBN's rules on instant transfers, as summarised by Mondaq, separate two cases. If a bank made the mistake, the sending bank can ask within 14 working days and the receiving bank reverses within one business day, without the beneficiary's authorisation. If the customer made the mistake, such as typing a wrong digit, the beneficiary must consent. The receiving bank can place a lien on the funds for a maximum of two weeks, and if there is no consent, the banks' internal auditors may mediate within two weeks.

So for a typo, expect a process measured in days or weeks, not minutes, and expect it to depend on the other person.

Step by step

  1. Your bank, today. Use the app's report option or call, then email. Give the date, time, amount, session ID, the wrong account number and bank, the name shown, and the account you meant to pay. Ask for a recall request and a reference number.
  2. Receiving bank. Your bank sends the request. The receiving bank checks the account, places a lien if funds are there, and contacts the account holder.
  3. Consent. If the holder agrees, the money comes back. If the account is a business or a stranger who is cooperative, this can be quick.
  4. No consent or no response. Your bank may ask for a police report, a court order or both. Moniepoint, for example, says recall depends on funds, beneficiary consent and the beneficiary bank's discretion.
  5. Court. If the person refuses and has spent the money, a civil claim against them is the remaining route. In Lagos, the Small Claims Court handles money claims up to ₦5,000,000 after a 14-day Letter of Demand.

Realistic timelines

StageTypical lengthDepends on
Your report to recall requestSame day to a few daysHow fast you report and your bank
Lien on fundsUp to two weeks, under the rules as summarisedFunds still being in the account
Consent or mediationDays to weeksThe account holder
Police reportA visit or two to the stationThe station
CourtWeeks to months; Lagos small claims aims for judgment within 60 days of filingWhether you can identify and serve the holder

None of these are guarantees. What you control is speed and the quality of your paperwork.

What your bank needs from you

Session ID
From the transfer receipt. It lets both banks find the exact transaction.
Wrong account
Number, bank, and the name shown when you sent.
Intended account
The account you meant to pay, so the error is plain.
Amount and time
Exactly as on the receipt.
Contact details
So the bank can tell you when the holder responds.

What not to do

  • Do not pay anyone who calls to say they can "reverse" it for a fee. See the recovery agent re-scam.
  • Do not post the person's account details publicly or threaten them.
  • Do not assume it is gone. Many people return money when their bank explains the situation.
  • Do not wait. The longer money sits there, the more likely it is spent.

If you can reach the person

Sometimes the receiving bank will not give you the holder's contact details, but the name shown on name enquiry and a mutual contact can help. If you do get in touch, be polite, explain the mistake, and ask them to tell their bank that they consent to the reversal. Do not ask them to send it back by a fresh transfer before your bank's recall is resolved; if both happen, you will have a new mismatch to untangle. If they agree to help, ask them to go to their branch or contact their bank's support the same day, and tell your own bank they have done so, with the date and time.

Worked example

Example only. Yemi sends ₦120,000 to 0123456798 instead of 0123456789 at 9am Monday. She reports to her bank at 9.20am. On Tuesday the receiving bank confirms ₦120,000 is still there and places a lien. The account holder ignores the bank's messages for a week. Yemi gets a police report on Wednesday of the second week and her bank sends it on. The receiving bank returns the funds on the following Monday, 14 days after the transfer. If the holder had withdrawn the money before the lien, Yemi's route would have been a claim against them.

For the police step, see what to write in a police report. If money arrives in your account by mistake, see read this first.

Where Pryme fits

On any app, check the account name returned by name enquiry before you approve a transfer (sending money on Pryme). A Pryme statement or verifiable receipt generated through VerifyDoc.ai gives your bank and the police a record that cannot be quietly edited (receipts).

Questions people ask

Can a wrong transfer be reversed without the receiver's permission?

Only if the bank made the error. For a customer's mistake, the CBN's rules as summarised need the beneficiary's consent, though the receiving bank can hold the funds under a lien for up to two weeks.

How long does it take to get back money sent to the wrong account?

Days to weeks if the holder consents; longer if a police report or court order is needed. Report the same day.

Will my bank give me the details of the person I sent money to?

Usually not. Your bank works through the receiving bank. Details are typically released to police or under a court order.

The person withdrew the money, can I still get it back?

Not through the bank alone. You can report to the police and bring a civil claim against the person.
