Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Italy

Supporting parents in Nigeria on an Italian salary

A worked budget for sending regular support to parents in Nigeria from an Italian net salary, and four ways to structure it so it lasts.

The short answer

Decide a fixed monthly amount in euros that your Italian net pay can carry, split it into a regular allowance, bills paid directly, and a small health and emergency reserve in naira, and review it every few months. Italy gives no tax relief for supporting parents who live in Nigeria: from 2025, non-EU citizens cannot claim dependant deductions for relatives resident abroad.

Start from your own net pay, not from the request

Support for parents usually starts with a phone call about a bill and drifts into a monthly habit with no fixed number. The figure that matters is what your busta paga leaves after rent, transport, food, your own savings and anything you owe in Italy. Work out that remainder first, then decide what share of it goes home. A sum you can send every month for years is worth more to your parents than a larger one that stops when your contract ends or your rent goes up.

Be clear with yourself about tax, too. Many Nigerians in Italy hear that parents count as familiari a carico. Since the 2025 budget law added comma 2-bis to article 12 of the TUIR, taxpayers who are not Italian, EU or EEA citizens can no longer claim those deductions for family members resident abroad, and from 2025 parents only count at all if they live with you. Our guide to familiari a carico and relatives in Nigeria explains the rule. Plan the budget on the assumption that every euro you send is post-tax money.

A worked monthly budget (example figures)

The figures below are an illustration, not a benchmark. Replace them with your own payslip and your parents' real costs.

LineExample amountNotes
Net monthly pay in Italy€1,750After tax and INPS contributions
Rent and utilities€700Shared flat or small apartment
Food, transport, phone€450
Your own savings and emergency fund€200Pay yourself before you send
Left for family support€400€1,750 − €700 − €450 − €200
Of which: parents' monthly allowance€250Food, transport, small needs
Of which: bills paid directly€100Electricity, data, cable
Of which: health and emergency reserve€50Held in naira, not spent monthly

Check the arithmetic on your own version: 700 + 450 + 200 + 400 = 1,750, and 250 + 100 + 50 = 400. Whatever is left over at the end goes back to your savings line, not to the allowance.

What €250 becomes in naira

The naira amount moves with the exchange rate, so do not promise your parents a fixed naira figure unless you are willing to top it up when the euro weakens. Look up the rate on the day you send; our guide to euro to naira rates for transfers from Italy explains the mid-market rate and the margin added on top.

Four ways to structure regular support

1. One fixed transfer on payday

Simple and predictable. Your parents know when it arrives and plan around it. The risk is that bills compete with food and the allowance runs out before the month does.

2. Allowance plus bills paid directly

You send a smaller allowance and pay electricity tokens, data and cable from your side. This keeps the lights on even in a tight month and gives you receipts for each bill.

3. A naira reserve for health

Hospital and pharmacy costs are the commonest emergency. Setting aside a small amount each month in naira means the first ₦100,000 of a hospital bill does not have to come from your Italian current account at a bad rate on a Sunday. Health insurance for parents is the next step; see paying health insurance for parents.

4. Share the load with siblings

If brothers or sisters also work abroad or in Nigeria, agree in writing who pays what: one person the allowance, another the health plan, another school fees for younger relatives. A short shared note avoids double payments and quiet resentment.

Keeping it sustainable

  • Review the amount every three to six months, and after any change in your pay or rent.
  • Tell your parents about changes before payday, not after.
  • Keep transfer confirmations; if your Italian bank ever asks about regular payments abroad, a simple record helps.
  • Do not borrow in Italy to fund monthly support; that turns a family gift into a debt you carry alone.

On the Nigerian side, gifts from children to parents are not themselves taxed: the NiDCOM-hosted NGEX diaspora tax guide says gifts to relatives are not taxed.

When an extra request comes

Requests outside the plan will still come: a roof repair, a relative's school fees, a church harvest levy. Decide in advance how you handle them. One approach is a separate yearly "family extras" amount, agreed with yourself in January, that each request is paid from until it runs out. When it is gone, the answer is "next year" or a contribution shared with siblings, not a cut to your own savings line. Saying so calmly, and early, is kinder than a sudden stop later.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account opened from Italy can hold your euros and naira side by side; you convert with Swap when the rate suits you, and the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Naira can sit in a Savings Box as the health reserve, with deposits held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank. Your Personal Assistant (Eva by default) can prepare the monthly transfer and bill payments as reminders; nothing moves until you approve.

Questions people ask

How much should I send my parents in Nigeria every month?

There is no right figure. Start from what your net Italian pay leaves after rent, living costs and your own savings, and choose an amount you can keep up for years.

Can I claim my parents in Nigeria on my Italian tax return?

Not if you are a non-EU citizen: from 2025, comma 2-bis of article 12 TUIR excludes deductions for relatives resident abroad for non-Italian, non-EU, non-EEA taxpayers.

Is money I send to my parents taxed in Nigeria?

The NGEX diaspora tax guide hosted by NiDCOM says gifts to relatives are not taxed. Income your parents earn from it, such as interest, is a separate matter.

Is it better to send a lump sum or monthly?

Monthly suits living costs and keeps you in control; a lump sum suits a known one-off cost such as a rent renewal. Many families do both.
