Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

IT support contracts with Nigerian banks from the US

Nigerian banks onboard vendors carefully and pay on their own cycle. What to expect on due diligence, security reviews, payment terms and tax.

The short answer

Winning IT support work with a Nigerian bank means passing vendor onboarding first: company documents, tax details, security and data protection questionnaires, references and often a local presence or partner. Payment usually follows purchase orders and invoices on 30 to 90 day terms, and the bank will deduct Nigerian withholding tax (10% on technical and management fees paid to a non-resident, a final tax for non-resident companies) and may raise VAT under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.

Why banks buy from diaspora specialists

Nigerian banks run core banking systems, card switches, mobile apps and data platforms that need specialist support, and many of the people who know those systems work in the US. A diaspora engineer or small US firm can offer after-hours cover across time zones, niche product expertise, or project work such as migrations and security reviews. The opportunity is real, but banks are regulated institutions with formal procurement, and the process is slower than selling to an SME.

Getting in the door

Most contracts start with an introduction: a former colleague now in the bank's IT team, a systems integrator that needs a specialist, or a product vendor whose Nigerian clients need local-hours support. Banks rarely buy from unsolicited emails alone. Partnering with an established Nigerian integrator can get you through procurement faster, with you as a subcontractor; the trade-off is a share of the fee and less control over the client. If you go direct, expect a proof-of-concept or a small paid assessment before a long support contract, and price it as a real engagement rather than free work.

Vendor onboarding: what you will be asked for

AreaTypical requests
CompanyCertificate of incorporation, ownership details, directors, registered address; Nigerian CAC documents if you have a local entity
TaxUS tax identification, Nigerian TIN if registered, tax residence evidence
FinancialRecent financial statements, bank reference, insurance certificates
ExperienceClient references, CVs of named engineers, case studies
SecurityInformation security questionnaire, policies, certifications if held, incident response process, background checks on staff
Data protectionHow you process personal data of Nigerian customers, where data is stored, sub-processors
LegalSigned master services agreement, NDA, code of conduct, anti-bribery declarations

Nigerian banks use vendor registration forms that follow a similar pattern; a Nigerian vendor registration form shows the fields you will meet. Prepare a vendor pack once and reuse it.

Data protection

Support work often means remote access to systems holding customer data. The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 applies to processing personal data of people in Nigeria, and a Mondaq summary notes that the controller bears the burden of proving a lawful basis such as consent. The bank will want contract terms that make you a processor acting on its instructions, with security, breach notification and audit rights. Do not copy production data to your own systems unless the contract allows it. See handling Nigerian client data.

Payment terms

  • Purchase orders: no PO, no payment. Do not start work on an email promise.
  • Invoice cycles: banks often batch vendor payments; 30 to 90 days after an approved invoice is common. Invoicing corporate clients in Nigeria explains the cycle.
  • Currency: naira contracts are simpler for the bank; dollar contracts need the bank to source and approve foreign currency, which can add time.
  • Milestones and retainers: monthly support retainers in arrears, project fees on milestones with acceptance criteria.
  • SLAs and penalties: service credits for missed response times are normal; cap them, for example at a share of the monthly fee.

Tax deducted by the bank

Under the Deduction of Tax at Source (Withholding) Regulations 2024, PwC's summary (reviewed 29 May 2026) lists 10% for commission, consultancy, technical, management and professional fees paid to non-residents, and says that for non-resident companies this WHT on technical, consulting, professional and management fees is a final tax. The regulations also say a deduction is doubled where the recipient has no TIN, so ask the bank how it treats foreign vendors without a Nigerian TIN.

A Mondaq review of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 says services consumed in Nigeria are taxable for VAT whether rendered inside or outside Nigeria, and that the Nigerian customer may withhold and remit the VAT. Banks' tax teams apply these rules carefully, so agree the VAT treatment before you price.

Worked example: monthly support retainer (illustrative)US dollars
Invoice8,000
WHT at 10% (non-resident technical fee)800
Paid to your US company7,200
Annual, 12 months86,400 received; 9,600 withheld

The US has no tax treaty with Nigeria, so no reduced rate applies. Whether the Nigerian tax supports a US foreign tax credit depends on your entity and the credit limitation, which turns on how much of your income is foreign-source; ask your preparer before you price.

What to check first

  1. A complete vendor pack: company, tax, financial, security, data protection.
  2. Whether the bank needs a Nigerian entity or partner for this contract.
  3. Fee stated gross or net of WHT and VAT.
  4. PO in hand before work starts; invoice format matching the bank's requirements.
  5. SLA penalties capped and acceptance criteria written down.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account opened from the US gives your company naira and dollar account details for bank-issued payments. The Compliance agent can keep your vendor pack and renewal dates current, and the Finance agent can reconcile payments against invoices and WHT receipts for you to approve; see Compliance agent.

Questions people ask

How do I become a vendor to a Nigerian bank?

Through the bank's vendor registration and due diligence: company and tax documents, financials, references, security and data protection questionnaires, then a signed services agreement.

How much tax will a Nigerian bank deduct from my invoice?

PwC lists 10% WHT on technical and management fees paid to non-residents, a final tax for non-resident companies. VAT may also apply under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.

How long do Nigerian banks take to pay vendors?

Terms of 30 to 90 days after an approved invoice are common. Get the PO first and match the bank's invoice format.

Do I need a Nigerian company to support a Nigerian bank?

Not always, but some banks prefer or require a local entity or partner. Ask at the start of procurement.
