Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Standard Chartered Nigeria SWIFT code

Standard Chartered Nigeria's SWIFT code SCBLNGLA (SCBLNGLAXXX), the bank address senders ask for, and the details a payer abroad needs.

The short answer

Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria's SWIFT code is SCBLNGLA, written SCBLNGLAXXX in 11-character form, registered to 142 Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos (Wise SWIFT directory, checked October 2026). A sender abroad also needs your exact account name, your account number in the right currency, and the bank name Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Limited.

The SWIFT code, or BIC, is how a foreign bank finds Standard Chartered's Nigerian bank on the international payments network. It is shared by every customer of the bank in Nigeria; your account number is what makes the payment yours. Because Standard Chartered operates in many countries, the most common mistake is copying a code for another country's Standard Chartered. The Nigerian code always contains NG. This guide gives the code, explains each part, and lists everything else a payer abroad will ask you for, so the money is not returned or held for weeks.

The code and what each part means

PartValueMeaning
Bank codeSCBLStandard Chartered Bank
Country codeNGNigeria
Location codeLALagos
Branch codeXXXHead office
8-character code
SCBLNGLA
11-character code
SCBLNGLAXXX
Bank name
Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Limited
Address in SWIFT directory
142 Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos

Both forms point to the same place. Use SCBLNGLAXXX if a form insists on 11 characters, and SCBLNGLA if it accepts 8. The directory lists only the head-office code for the bank, so there is no separate branch code to look for.

What to give someone paying you from abroad

  1. Your account name exactly as the bank holds it.
  2. The account number of the account in the currency being sent. For dollars, give your USD domiciliary account; for pounds, your GBP account. A naira account number may lead to conversion on arrival.
  3. Bank name: Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Limited.
  4. SWIFT/BIC: SCBLNGLA or SCBLNGLAXXX.
  5. Bank address if asked: 142 Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos.
  6. A short purpose of payment, such as salary, invoice number or tuition refund.
  7. Any correspondent or intermediary bank details, only if the bank gives them to you for that currency.

Sending money abroad from Standard Chartered

For outward payments the bank's June 2026 fee guide lists an outward telegraphic transfer at "Swift cost recovery ($25), 0.5% commission on transfer plus associate offshore charges (where applicable)". The bank's download centre has a 2D-barcoded Foreign Currency Transfer Form, and the SC Mobile listing says you can transfer to local and international accounts in the app.

Worked example, for illustration: sending $1,500 would cost $25 plus 0.5% of $1,500 ($7.50), so $32.50 before any charges taken by correspondent banks on the way. The guide does not list a charge for incoming SWIFT payments on the pages we could read; ask the contact centre before relying on a full amount arriving.

Mistakes that delay payments

  • Using a Standard Chartered code from another country. Codes for other markets have a different country code in letters five and six; the Nigerian one reads NG.
  • Putting the SWIFT code in the account number field, or the other way round. Read the sender's form slowly.
  • Abbreviating the account name. "A. Okafor" may not match "Adaeze Chinwe Okafor" on the account.
  • Sending euros to a USD account. The app listing names naira, US dollar and pound current accounts; if a payer must send euros, ask the bank how they will be credited before the payment is made.
  • Leaving out the purpose of payment. Nigerian banks keep records of why foreign currency came in, and a missing purpose can mean a phone call or a request for documents before the money is released.

Paying a Nigerian account in naira

If the payer is in Nigeria and is sending naira, the SWIFT code is not used at all. They pick Standard Chartered from their bank's list and enter your 10-digit account number; the transfer runs on Nigeria's domestic rails. Giving a local payer a SWIFT code only causes confusion.

Tracing a payment that has not arrived

  • Ask the sender for proof of payment showing the SWIFT code, account number and amount used, plus the payment's tracking reference.
  • Check that the code on the proof is SCBLNGLA or SCBLNGLAXXX, not a code for Standard Chartered in another country.
  • Send the proof to the bank through secure mail in SC Mobile, or to clientcare.ng@sc.com, and ask whether the funds are held for documentation.
  • If the sender used wrong details, the recall must start with the sending bank.

Contact numbers and escalation steps are in our Standard Chartered Nigeria customer care guide. For how SWIFT compares with local rails, see SWIFT vs local payment rails, and for the difference between SWIFT, IBAN and sort codes, this explainer.

Where Pryme fits

If your clients are in the UK, US or eurozone, a Pryme account gives you local GBP, USD and EUR account details, so payers there can often send a domestic transfer instead of a SWIFT payment. Funds stay in that currency until you choose to Swap. Outside Nigeria, these services are provided through regulated partners.
