Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Getting a Spanish mortgage with income from Nigeria

Spanish lenders can count Nigerian income, but they will test it hard. What they look at, the documents to prepare and how the naira affects the numbers.

The short answer

It is possible, but harder than with Spanish payslips: lenders assess whether income in naira is stable, provable and enough after currency risk, and many will lend less or ask for a larger deposit. Expect to show contracts, Nigerian tax records and bank statements, with sworn Spanish translations, and to explain how the income reaches Spain.

A Nigerian consultant moving to Málaga with a retainer from a Lagos client, or a couple in Madrid where one partner still runs a business at home, will meet the same question from every bank: how sure are we that this income keeps coming, in an amount that covers the mortgage in euros?

How Spanish lenders look at foreign income

Each bank sets its own policy, and the bank must assess whether you can repay before it lends. With income from Nigeria, the points that decide the answer are usually:

  • Stability. How long you have earned it, and whether it comes from an employment contract, a retainer or your own company.
  • Proof. Contracts, payslips, Nigerian tax filings and bank statements that tell the same story.
  • Currency. Income in naira, paid against a debt in euros, falls in value if the naira weakens. Lenders often discount it or ask for a buffer.
  • Residence status. Resident borrowers with a NIE and padrón registration are assessed differently from non-residents buying a holiday home.
  • Credit record in Spain. A thin or empty Spanish record makes the bank lean harder on documents. See how credit history works in Spain.

Documents to prepare

DocumentTip
Passport, NIE and residence cardMake sure names match across every document
Employment contract or client contractsShow start date, amount, currency and term
Payslips or invoices for the last months the bank asks forSame amounts as the bank statements
Nigerian tax recordsEvidence of PAYE deductions or your filed return
Bank statements showing the income arrivingNigerian and Spanish statements, so the trail is visible
Company accounts and CAC documents, if self-employedRecent filed accounts carry more weight

Nigerian documents in English will often need a sworn translation into Spanish. The University of Deusto's guide lists acceptable translators as a traductor jurado authorised in Spain, a Spanish mission abroad, your country's mission in Spain, or an official translator abroad whose signature is legalised. Nigeria is not an EU or EEA state, so check whether the bank also wants an apostille on official documents. More on sworn translators for Nigerian documents.

Tax residence affects the income too

Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, PwC notes that you count as non-resident in Nigeria only if you fail every test, including substantial economic or immediate family ties. Someone living in Spain with a Nigerian business may still be Nigerian tax resident. A bank may ask how the income is taxed; the Spain-Nigeria treaty, which the FIRS lists as in force, decides which country taxes what. See Nigerian tax on income earned in Spain.

Worked example: what a weaker naira does

Example only, with illustrative rates. You earn ₦2,400,000 a month and are applying for a mortgage payment of €700 a month.

At €1 = ₦1,700At €1 = ₦2,000
Income in euros€1,412€1,200
Mortgage payment€700€700
Payment as share of income49.6%58.3%

Nothing changed in Nigeria, yet the mortgage now takes almost 9 percentage points more of your income. This is why lenders stress-test foreign-currency income, and why a larger deposit or a euro-earning co-borrower can change the outcome.

Ways to strengthen an application

  • Move part of the income into euros first. A record of regular euro transfers into a Spanish account over several months shows the income reaches Spain, not just that it exists in Lagos.
  • Show a cushion. Savings left over after the deposit and costs reassure a lender that a weak month for the naira will not mean a missed payment.
  • Add a euro-earning co-borrower. A partner with a Spanish contract changes how much of the payment depends on Nigerian income.
  • Reduce other debts. Car loans and card balances, in Spain or Nigeria, count against what you can borrow.
  • Use a broker who knows foreign-income cases. Ask for the fee in writing before you engage one.

Before you sign

  1. Ask two or three banks for their written policy on non-Spanish income before you pay for a valuation.
  2. Ask for the standardised pre-contract information on the loan, read the full cost, and compare fixed and variable offers.
  3. Keep the deposit, and any gift from family, traceable: see gifted deposits from parents in Nigeria.
  4. Budget for purchase taxes, notary, land registry and valuation on top of the deposit; ask the bank and the notary for current figures.
  5. Take independent advice. This article is information, not financial advice.

Where Pryme fits

Banks want a clean trail from income to account. A Pryme account receives naira and holds euros, with Swap showing the rate and fee before you convert. Verifiable statements, made with VerifyDoc.ai, let a lender check a statement is genuine and unaltered.

Questions people ask

Can I get a mortgage in Spain with income from Nigeria?

Some lenders will consider it, usually with more documents, a stress test for the naira and often a larger deposit. Ask for each bank's written policy.

Do Spanish banks need my Nigerian documents translated?

Often yes, into Spanish by a sworn translator, and official documents may need an apostille. Ask the bank first.

Does a weaker naira affect my Spanish mortgage?

Yes. Your payment is in euros, so if the naira falls your income covers less of it.

Do I need a NIE to get a Spanish mortgage?

You will need a NIE for the purchase itself, and residents are normally asked for it by lenders.
