An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.
Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.
Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.
Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.
Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.
Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.
Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.
Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.
Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

What snail farming costs in Nigeria: species, pen options, breeding stock, time to table size and a realistic labelled example of the first harvest.
Starting a small snail farm in Nigeria mainly costs a secure pen and breeding stock; our labelled example for about 300 breeders came to ₦755,000. Snails grow slowly, so expect the first harvest of table-size snails to take many months, often into the following year, and to cover set-up costs before later seasons bring profit.
Snail farming (heliciculture) means raising edible land snails in pens until they reach table size, then selling them live or processed. It needs little space and no electricity, and snails eat leaves, fruit peels and simple feed. The catch is time: snails grow slowly, so this is a patient business, not a quick one. Anyone who promises big returns in a few months is selling you something.
Nigerian farmers mostly keep the giant African land snails that are already eaten locally. Archachatina marginata is the large, prized species that most buyers want; Achatina achatina is also large; Achatina fulica is smaller and generally fetches less. Buy breeders from an established farm that can show you its pens, rather than mixing wild-picked snails of unknown age and health. Ask the breeder which species you are getting and how old they are, because size alone tells you little.
Pens can be wooden or concrete boxes with soil beds, trench pens, or old tyres stacked and covered with mesh. Whatever you build must keep out ants, rats, lizards, snakes and thieves, and keep snails in. The figures below are an example with assumed prices; get local quotes, especially for breeders, whose price varies widely by size and species.
| Item | Assumption (example) | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Pen: block-walled or wooden boxes with mesh lids, soil beds | for about 300 snails | ₦250,000 |
| Breeding stock | 300 snails at ₦1,000 (example) | ₦300,000 |
| Feeders, water trays, spray can | ₦20,000 | |
| Soil, leaf litter, calcium source | ₦25,000 | |
| Ant and predator control (moat, mesh, fence) | ₦40,000 | |
| Feed and labour for the first months | ₦120,000 | |
| Example start-up budget | ₦755,000 |
This example totals ₦755,000. The largest choices are the pen and the breeders; starting with fewer breeders and a pen you can extend is a sensible way to learn before you spend more.
Plan on a long cycle. Breeders lay mainly in the rainy season, eggs take weeks to hatch, and young snails then need many months of feeding before they reach a size restaurants will pay well for. A pen stocked this year is unlikely to produce a large harvest of table-size snails until the following year. Ask your breeder and your state Agricultural Development Programme for growth data from farms near you, because temperature, humidity and feed change the pace.
This is an example with assumed numbers. Suppose your breeders produce 2,400 young snails in the first season and 60% survive to table size, giving 1,440 snails. Sold at an assumed ₦600 each to restaurants and pepper soup joints, that is ₦864,000, set against the ₦755,000 start-up budget plus feeding and labour through the growing months. On these assumptions the first harvest only just covers the set-up spending; profit comes in later seasons, when the pens and breeders are already paid for.
Buyers include restaurants, hotels, pepper soup joints, market traders and households who prefer farmed snails. It is commonly reported that prices rise in the dry season, when fewer wild snails reach markets, so a farm that can sell outside the rainy season may earn more per snail. Keep simple records of feed, deaths and sales from the start, using a system like our bookkeeping guide.
Live snails sold at the farm gate need no product registration. If you later sell processed, packaged snail meat under a brand, it becomes a packaged food: NAFDAC's 2019 tariff listed a local food registration fee of ₦20,000 for micro businesses, though that schedule may have been revised, so read our guide to NAFDAC registration costs. A CAC business name costs ₦20,000 under the May 2025 fee schedule.
Restaurant and hotel buyers prefer to pay by transfer. A Pryme Business Account keeps farm money separate, and you can save for next season's pens in a Naira Savings Box.
It depends on pen type and how many breeders you buy. Our labelled example for about 300 breeders came to ₦755,000, with the pen and breeding stock as the biggest items.
Many months, and often into the following year for table-size snails. Growth depends on species, feed, humidity and temperature, so ask breeders near you for their own figures.
Most farmers choose Archachatina marginata, the large species buyers prefer. Achatina achatina is also large; Achatina fulica is smaller and usually sells for less.
It can be over several seasons, once pens and breeders are paid for. The first harvest often only covers set-up costs, and losses to predators and theft decide most outcomes.
