Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Italy

Small World agents in Italy: sending to Nigeria in person

How an agent send with Small World from Italy to Nigeria works, the ID and details to bring, Italy's €1,000 cash threshold and the 2026 CBN payout rules.

The short answer

At a Small World agent in Italy you hand over your photo ID, the recipient's details and the money, and the agent books the transfer and gives you a receipt with a reference. Cash paid through money transfer services is subject to a €1,000 threshold in Italy, and since 1 May 2026 payouts in Nigeria are in naira only, with cash over the counter capped at the naira equivalent of $200.

Small World is one of the money transfer brands found in agent shops across Italian cities. Many Nigerians use these shops because they can pay in cash, speak to someone, and have a paper receipt. This guide explains how an agent send works and what to bring. One caveat first: we could not confirm Small World's current Nigerian payout options or fees from its own pages for this article, so ask the agent to show you the options on screen before you pay.

How an agent send works

  1. You identify yourself. The agent checks your photo ID and registers you as a customer if it is your first time. Many agents also record your codice fiscale.
  2. You give the recipient's details. Full name exactly as on their Nigerian ID or bank account, their city and phone number, and for a bank payout the bank and 10-digit account number.
  3. The agent quotes the transfer. Ask for three numbers: the fee, the exchange rate and the naira amount the recipient will receive.
  4. You pay. Usually cash; some agents accept cards.
  5. You get a receipt with a reference number. Check every name and figure on it before you leave the counter.

The agent is acting for the transfer company, which is the regulated firm responsible for your money and for the identity checks. If something goes wrong, the receipt and reference are what the company's customer service will ask for.

What to bring

ItemNotes
Photo IDPassport or permesso di soggiorno, in date. An EU identity card or driving licence may also be accepted.
Codice fiscaleYour tessera sanitaria or codice fiscale card. See why agents ask for it.
Recipient detailsName as on their ID or bank account, city, phone; bank and account number for a deposit.
PaymentCash within the money transfer threshold, or a card if the agent takes one.
PurposeBe ready to say why you are sending, especially for larger sums.

Italy's cash thresholds

Italian law limits cash payments between different people. Money.it's guide of 7 January 2026 traces the general limit to Article 49 of Legislative Decree 231/2007, raised from €2,000 to €5,000 from 1 January 2023. A public notice from Banca Etica, updated on 1 January 2026, confirms the general €5,000 threshold and states a separate threshold of €1,000 for money transfer services.

So if you plan to send more than that in cash, expect the agent to refuse or to ask for another form of payment. Do not split a large sum across several visits or several shops; that pattern is exactly what providers look for, and it can lead to your details being blocked. For bigger amounts, read AML checks on large transfers.

What changed on the Nigerian side

A law firm summary of the CBN's circular of 24 March 2026 on diaspora remittances says that from 1 May 2026 IMTOs must pay customers only in naira, with all flows routed through designated naira settlement accounts at authorised dealer banks. Reporting on the CBN's 2026 foreign exchange manual says cash paid over the counter on inbound remittances is capped at the naira equivalent of $200, and anything above is credited to a bank account.

Worked example

Example only. You hand an agent €150 in cash for your mother in Enugu. That is under Italy's €1,000 money transfer threshold, and if $200 is worth more than €150 on the day, she could collect it in cash, in naira. If you send €600, she would need a bank account for it to be credited. For most family support, ask for a bank deposit from the start.

Before you leave the shop

  • Check the recipient's name letter by letter on the receipt.
  • Check the naira amount, not only the euro total.
  • Photograph the receipt and send the reference to the recipient privately.
  • Ask how to track the transfer and which number to call if it is delayed.
  • Never hand over money for someone else's transfer, or let someone send in your name.

For other agent networks, see money transfer agent ID rules and Small World from Italy.

Where Pryme fits

If you would rather not carry cash, a Pryme account opened from Italy holds euro and naira and lets you send to Nigerian bank accounts from your phone; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Can I send money to Nigeria in cash at a Small World agent?

Agents generally accept cash, but Italy's €1,000 threshold for money transfer services applies, per a bank notice updated 1 January 2026.

What ID do I need at a money transfer agent in Italy?

A valid photo ID such as a passport or permesso di soggiorno. Many agents also record your codice fiscale.

Can my family collect dollars in Nigeria?

No. Since 1 May 2026, IMTO payouts are in naira, and cash over the counter is capped at the naira equivalent of $200.

How do I track an agent transfer?

Keep the receipt reference and ask the agent which tracking page or number to use.
