Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Italy

Sending a SWIFT transfer from an Italian bank to Nigeria

How a bonifico estero from Italy to a Nigerian bank works: the details to enter, OUR, SHA and BEN charge options, intermediary deductions and tracing.

The short answer

A bonifico estero to Nigeria goes over SWIFT: you give your Italian bank the recipient's name, 10-digit account number, the Nigerian bank's SWIFT code and, where the bank asks, its correspondent bank details, and choose who pays the charges. OUR means you pay all charges, SHA splits them (you pay your bank, the recipient bears the rest), and BEN puts every charge on the recipient. Intermediary banks can deduct fees on the way, so a SHA transfer usually arrives short of the amount sent.

How a SWIFT transfer travels

A cross-border bank transfer is a payment message from your bank to the recipient's bank, either directly or through one or more correspondent banks. In the SWIFT message standard that has been used for decades (the MT103, described in BNZ's specification), the message carries your details, the recipient's bank, any intermediary bank, the recipient's account and name, a payment reference, and a mandatory charges code. Since November 2025 banks have been moving these payments to the ISO 20022 format, where the MT103 is replaced by a pacs.008 message that carries the same essentials plus a unique tracking reference, the UETR (eco.com support note, a secondary source).

The details to give your Italian bank

  1. Beneficiary name exactly as on the Nigerian bank's records.
  2. Beneficiary account number: the 10-digit NUBAN.
  3. Beneficiary bank name and SWIFT/BIC code (8 or 11 characters).
  4. Correspondent or intermediary bank details, if the Nigerian bank publishes them for your currency.
  5. Currency: euros into a euro domiciliary account, or ask about conversion to naira.
  6. Purpose of payment, which Nigerian banks need for individual inflows.
  7. Charges option: OUR, SHA or BEN.

GTBank's page on foreign currency inflows is a good example of what a Nigerian bank asks for: the beneficiary's account number and name "as captured" on its system, the bank name, SWIFT code GTBINGLA, GTBank's account number with its correspondent bank, and the correspondent's name or SWIFT code, which it supplies in its "disposal instructions". It also says the remitting bank must include the beneficiary's name and account number in the SWIFT message, and that individual inflows from individuals abroad must state a purpose under CBN rules. Our guide to the details a Nigerian bank needs lists each field.

OUR, SHA or BEN: who pays the charges

CodeWho paysWhat the recipient sees
OURYou pay all charges, including the receiving sideThe full amount, if every bank honours OUR
SHAYou pay your bank; the recipient bears the restAmount sent minus intermediary and receiving charges
BENThe recipient bears all chargesAmount sent minus every charge, including your bank's

These definitions come from field 71A of the MT103 standard. The message also records the instructed amount (field 33B), which stays the same through the chain, and the charges each bank deducted (field 71F), so a bank statement can show where money went missing. Our all-country guide to SHA, BEN and OUR charges goes deeper.

What it costs

Your Italian bank's fee for a bonifico estero outside the SEPA area is on its price sheet (often called the foglio informativo) and in your online banking before you confirm. Intermediary banks may then deduct their own fee. A UK-focused guide by NairaCompare (June 2026, a secondary source) puts intermediary deductions at "$10 to $25 per correspondent bank"; we found no Italian bank or Nigerian bank page publishing the figure for euro transfers, so treat any number as indicative and look at what actually arrives.

Example

Example only, with invented charges. You send €1,000 SHA. Your bank charges you €15 separately. One intermediary deducts €12 and the Nigerian bank deducts €8. Your family's euro account is credited €980. Had you chosen OUR and your bank charged, say, €35 in total, you would pay €1,035 and they would receive €1,000, provided no bank in the chain deducted anyway.

Timing and tracing

NairaCompare's guide puts SWIFT delivery at 2 to 5 business days; treat that as a rough guide. If money has not arrived, ask your Italian bank for the payment confirmation with the UETR or the MT103 copy and send it to the recipient's bank, which can search for the incoming payment. See tracing a SWIFT transfer with the UETR. GTBank's page adds that inflows above $10,000 are reported to the NDLEA and the CBN; that is reporting, not a block, but it is one more reason to state a clear purpose.

Euros or naira at the other end

A SWIFT transfer in euros needs a euro domiciliary account at the Nigerian bank. The CBN's 2026 foreign exchange manual, as reported by TheCable, lets individuals open or pay into domiciliary accounts without disclosing the source of funds and allows transfers from them of up to $10,000 a day, which matters if your family later needs to move the euros on. If they need naira, they convert at the bank's rate. The naira-only rule for money transfer operators applies to remittance apps and agents, not to a bank wire into a domiciliary account, so confirm with the receiving bank that it accepts euros into that account. Our guide to sending euros or naira compares the two.

Before you press send

  • Recipient's name copied from their banking app.
  • NUBAN read back by the recipient.
  • SWIFT code checked on the Nigerian bank's own page.
  • Current correspondent instructions for euros, from the bank.
  • Charges option chosen deliberately, not left on the default.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account has its own euro account details, so you can move euros there and convert to naira with Swap when you choose; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

How do I send a bonifico estero to Nigeria?

Give your bank the recipient's name, 10-digit account number, the Nigerian bank's SWIFT code, any correspondent details it publishes, the purpose and the charges option.

Should I choose OUR or SHA for Nigeria?

OUR aims to deliver the full amount but costs you more; SHA is cheaper for you but the recipient bears intermediary and receiving charges.

Why did less money arrive than I sent?

Under SHA or BEN, intermediary and receiving banks deduct their charges on the way. The payment record shows each deduction.

How long does a SWIFT transfer from Italy to Nigeria take?

Often a few business days; one guide says 2 to 5. Ask your bank for the UETR to trace it if it is late.
